Gorgeous hotel, amazing staff

Mar 9th, 2020

What a beautiful hotel. I was upgraded to a room with a balcony and it was wonderful to have access to the outside. The hotel is modern and comfortable and close to everything (20min to DC). The staff were excellent, especially Syneese at the front desk, and Val and Hugo at the two bars. Hugo is the best and Val mixes a mean cocktail. Thanks everyone for making my stay so great. I’ll be back. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Consider This Hotel Over More Expensive Hotels Downtown

Feb 15th, 2020

The Hotel Lorien is a mid range hotel that's conveniently located 20-30 mins drive from both downtown DC and Tysons Corner. What it offers over other hotels is a lower tax rate (Alexandria vs District of Columbia) and the ability to self park on King Street (directly across from the hotel property). These two money saving aspects can save you close to $100 per night off the overall price per night. The property is a Boutique Hotel located on King Street in Old Town Alexandria. They offer a wide range of rooms/suites. Rooms can get on the small side so for a more luxurious experience I recommend using the money you'll save on taxes/parking to get one of the suites. My wife and I stayed in February 2020 and paid $230 per night for a King Bed Suite with large walk in shower, claw foot tub and rooftop terrace balcony big enough to host a party for 5-10 people (room 610). Other perks at the hotel include a free nightly Manager's Wine Reception (5-6 PM) a decent hotel gym on site (open 24 hours a day) and two on premise hotel restaurants. The property has not been upgraded in several years and is in need of such and the hotel staff has recently been replaced with all new people (not as good as the previous years). It is definitely above the quality of your standard hotel chains (Sheraton, Hilton, Hyatt) but in my opinion still a high medium on the luxury scale because of the staff and need for renovation. However, it does offer significant cost saving because of its location/parking situation over other hotels in the area without sacrificing access around the city. Stay here if you fly into Reagan National Airport and have a rental vehicle. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Convenient, functional and clean.

Jan 7th, 2020

I wouldn't qualify the hotel as luxurious, but it was clean and close to plenty of restaurants. FYI, the "gym" is a small room in the basement with no windows and literally 5 pieces of equipment. I did not use the spa facilities. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Dirty room and sheets

Jan 1st, 2020

The carpet was dirty and stained and so was the sheet on the bed. The bathroom door won’t stay closed and couldn’t be locked. It will slide open on its own while you are on the toilet or taking a shower. Also no tea or coffee in the room. Most of the hotel staff encountered was nice and friendly. But there was a mid aged African American lady working at the front desk in the afternoon/evening shift that was very unprofessional and was arguing with the customer. The only good thing was the location. However, there are so many other great hotels just steps away. I won’t be back to this one for sure. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Just arrived but already...

Dec 29th, 2019

Just arrived but already disappointed. Although we had a prior reservation, we arrived almost one hour after check-in time, and no room was available. We were told we could wait up to 45 minutes. Ended up being about 15 minutes. Requested non-adjoining room at front desk, but received an adjoining room. Extra lovely since it overlooks the dumpsters with heaping trash. Foreseeing the trash truck coming and waking us at 5 AM. Tried to turn down the air conditioning but so far the hot room went up 1°. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
