Wonderful In Everyway

Jan 10th, 2021

The staff was so courteous , professional ,attentive and knowledgeable . Our check in was quick and easy and we were greeted warmly , they even greeted our dog affectionately !The beautiful room was spotlessly clean and comfortable with updated furniture. We had a balcony which was really nice to be able to see the beautiful area the hotel is in. We never stayed in Alexandria but this is where we will stay whenever in the DC area. Thank you for making our stay such a great experience , we love Kimpton properties and the Lorien shines! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Easy stay

Dec 25th, 2020

I’ve stayed at this property a few times in the past few years and am writing about my most recent stay. This hotel is located in the center of beautiful Alexandria. It’s so easy to get to from DCA or major highways. They remodeled in the past few years I believe. It’s very cozy and modern. White spaces and gray accents of fabric and concrete. They have a cobblestone courtyard that is filled with lights year round. You’ll pass it when you enter. Parking is valet or street. We arrived on a holiday and parking that day was free. They are operated valet currently though. It’s $25 I believe. Staff is laid back and cordial as expected at Kimpton’s. I felt like I was visiting an old friend. Rawan had reached out prior to our arrival. Wendell was efficient and friendly at check in. All properties have replaced the mini bar with a Bodega at the front desk. The Lorien has a well appointed selection of beverages and snacks. We had a suite with a king bed. It had a separate living area, bedroom, and bathroom with a soaking tub and large shower. Layout in some of these rooms is a little strange in that the walls are angled. Plenty of space for our one night stay. The large windows over looked the courtyard and there was even a small balcony. The room was very clean. Brabo is their in house restaurant and they were serving grab and go breakfast. The oatmeal and juice hit the spot! Checkout was a breeze and there is a key drop box. Ridiculously disappointed.

Nov 23rd, 2020

Obviously I didn’t do my research. I have been a guest at “The Kimpton” before. Wonderful experience. Not this one. The previous location of the Kimpton Hotel is now The Alexandria. Apparently, Kimpton took over a new Hotel. Horrible experience. I was in DC for My Fathers funeral at ANC. A charge for a suite and valet parking and breakfast. None of those existed. I found myself walking down the street at 5am to get a cup of coffee. Kimpton doesn’t put coffee out until 7:30. I pretty much begged for a cup of coffee, answer, no and sorry. This isn’t a COVID related issue. I travel for a living. It’s an excuse to go cheap. No Kleenex in the room, no water, no coffee maker. I would not recommend this Hotel/Spa. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Terrible Mananagement

Nov 5th, 2020

I was booked to go away to celebrate my wedding anniversary in NYC until COVID hit. We decided to just go local and stay at the Kimpton Lorien Hotel & Spa as my wife loved our previous Kimpton experiences. As a Platinum Ambassador, I booked the highest available room and then rang to see if it was possible to get an upgrade to a room with a bathtub. The woman I spoke with said Saturday was very busy but she would see what she could do. I rang a few days later again and another woman said she had nothing on in the system. I asked her about Sunday night and she just ignored me and was really not at all helpful and more dismissive. I rang on the morning I was due to arrive and a gentleman said he didn't have a room with a bathtub but he would upgrade me to a nicer room. When I arrived in the hotel for an early checkout, which I had set as my preference, I was told the room would not be ready till after 2 pm. It became available earlier and when we checked in we got no food credits, no water no welcome or acknowledgment that I was an IHG ambassador, and no room upgrade that we were promised (or mention of my previous requests). The room I booked was available online via google for $40 cheaper. When I spoke with Wyndell at reception and told him how disappointed I was, he upgraded our room the next night and provided water, and told me I could get a $10 room credit for food despite it been $20 on the IHG website. I was later charged 15.32 for food with no credit applied.?!? All told the experience was dreadful and the staff didn't seem to care about IHG status or trying to be helpful. The upgraded room, while nicer had stains on the doorway to the bathroom. My wife was woken at midnight to shouting and moving furniture in the room above us which went on for quite a while. I am a member of a number of hotel loyalty programs. This is by far the worst. Their room rates, even with company discount are far higher than what is available on other websites and after this experience, I won't be booking with Kimpton again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Beware of cancellations

Nov 2nd, 2020

I got married in June of 2020 and we planned to have an in-town mini-honeymoon during the time of COVID. A reservation was made a month in advance for a terrace room suite. Kimpton Lorien cancelled our reservation two days before the wedding. The people who were in the room we reserved decided to extend their stay, so I guess our confirmed reservation meant nothing.
