All About the Staff

Location? Great. Especially if you’re in town for legit, old school Manhattan Site Seeing or Broadway shows. Or, in my case, work in midtown. Rooms? Clean. Neat. Cool. Sleek. Quiet. So sure, checks all those boxes, too. But a guy named Daniel at the front desk was so friendly you’d think you knocked on his front door. And then the staff I met in the hall. And then waiting on the curb for my car to arrive the doorman asking what he could do to help. Seriously, that makes all the difference. I go to NY a lot and usually just stay wherever works. But when you treat me this nicely, I will go out of my way to stay there again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

3 night stay, nice Decor and location

Room was very close to the website pictures, as was my mates. Great tiger print bathrobe! Yoga mat and umbrella in room. My friend and I had different level payment rooms but we couldn’t tell the difference. Had the 5pm welcome wines but seats were a bit limited so they could do with more lounges/seating but nice wine. Mixed bag with staff. Struck very helpful men duo on check in and later but one pretty stern female who we then tried to avoid. Didn’t use the breakfast and instead opted for a takeaway coffee/ tea from a deli a few doors toward TS. Well located to several subways and so close to TKTS! I found a bit noisy and had stayed at a nearby hotel the week before which seems quieter but was a higher floor there so maybe what transpires in a boutique spot. Seems dog friendly as every time I was in an elevator there was a dog and owner. Well priced TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

False advertisement of Spa Suite

Kimpton falsely advertises a King Spa Suite in its website. I booked it specifically for a weekend stay while in New York in Valentine’s Day as the soaking tub looked amazing. I booked directly through their website to avoid surprises - therefore I paid full fare for the reservation. I even called to make sure that I the Spa Suite would be exactly the one shown on the photos. The staff confirmed on the phone that there would be no surprises at all and I asked them to please let me know in advance to my phone number if anything was to change as we wanted to have an amazing couple weekend in NYC. Guess what? Upon check in they told me I had a regular room with no soaking tub. I can only assume this hotel runs a scam with False Advertisement to lure customers and upon arrival they claim it was a mistake. When I complained about it, the staff told me they could lower my price as it was steady fully paid (full fare) - but this is the least they could do! If I pay 440 dollars a night for a spa suite and they look to put me in a small room the least that Should happen is to adjust the price. After speaking to the manager, first he asked for the name of the person I spoke to (as if it was my responsibility to remember that when the reservation was made well over a month in advance). After I showed evidence of calling them directly, he claimed the only other suites they had were given to other customers or out of order. Coincidentally I could not even take a look at the supposed “out of order suite”. The manager offered a complimentary stay in a different type of white (a wheelchair access room) as I started getting more agitated. I booked specifically through their website to avoid this type of surprises, which are common when booking on Trivago or Hotels.com or similar websites. I had no option other than to take it, otherwise I would have no place to stay for the night. Hotels usually do this when clients book through reduced priced websites, which may be understandable, but in this case I paid the full fare in advance and I did not booked through an intermediary. This is unacceptable. Additionally, the room’s heating did not work so I had a floor electric heater. The staff came into the room without knocking on the door to check the “minibar” while I was just out of the shower and did not even apologized. Although they gave me a complimentary night, I would recommend avoiding this hotel. It is really disgusting to make plans for a spa suite and end in a completely different suite with no actual justifiable rationale, other than false advertisement. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Nice place, but problems with room

Location is great and room lovely. Our room remained 81F even after I set temp to 67F. I didn’t realize I could shut off the system completely until the morning we left and the temp dropped to 74F. We also had a fan that was very loud and go off near the bathroom every few hours. When I told front desk I received a verbal apology, but no compensation for our discomfort such as points or discount in future stay. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Will stay again

The room was very nice and clean. Lots of pillows, which I love. The bathroom was beautiful. Only negative is there was no full length mirror. How a girl to know...booties or pumps?? Great staff, low key bar TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
