Pricey, but did not disappoint!

Nov 6th, 2019

We spent two nights here on October and this was a great experience. This hotel has only 17 rooms We paid a bit more to get a large room with a solarium and hot tub (more like a big bathtub with water jets) and a great view. The breakfast area overlooks the water and the town. The only drawback is that parking was not included but at 25 euros per day, it was not unreasonable. There also is a pool. There was a bit of disappointment that the sauna/steam room did not function. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Positano Oasis Away from the Madness

Oct 21st, 2019

We stayed with our best friends in mid October for 4 nights. In of the 2 superior rooms we did not have a water view from inside the room, you had to walk out a long terrace to actually see the water. The staff moved us to a much better room the last 3 nights. The staff at the front desk was either fabulous or very blah. Barbara at reception is what keeps my review using high marks. She was so kind and helpful with the best restaurant tips through our stay as well. We enjoyed our stay and room spacious and comfortable with large balcony and beautiful sea views! Fastest room service I have ever experienced with coffee in the morning (they need to use thermal containers to keep coffee warm). Restaurant for breakfast was very good and staff always cheerful. We would have loved less crowds in Positano in October but all and all a very good part of our Italy trip! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

My Expectations weren’t Met

Oct 8th, 2019

I was so excited to stay at this hotel and thought with my research and all these glowing past reviews that my stay would of been perfect . Pros : location was spot on , and I would stay again based on this alone , one of the best positioned hotels I believe . Large room , nice breakfasts . Cons : I should of checked this but did assume with a balcony you would have an amazing view , this is not the case with a classic room ( approx $650 a night aust dollars ). Yes I can see the sea from my balcony , but my balcony is inside another balcony I’m not allowed on so can not see city aspect or beach etc .Think it was room 201 . They were fully booked so could not change me. Very disappointing. Service - compared to other hotels I have stayed in Italy and throughout the world , this would probably rate the worst . Breakfast waiters having a loud debate for a long time and not serving us , or removing plates . Cleaners asking to come in the room while we are in it to clean and one standing at the door of the bathroom chatting to the other while she cleans . I would think at this quality of hotel the service would of been more friendly and helpful and interested , maybe because it’s the end of the season and they sick of customers or maybe they just don’t care because they have perfect position 🤷‍♀️ View from restaurant is amazing , lunch and dinner food is not , expensive and bland. Expected better TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Classic Positano Views and Friendly Staff

Sep 25th, 2019

Overview: great value, friendly staff and location, location, location. Like many hotels on the sea side of Via Cristoforo Colombo, only the lobby and, in L’Ancora’s case, the al fresco restaurant are at street level. All rooms then are down the stairs or the elevator, most with views of the beach I believe. Located next to the famous Le Sireneuse with the same views at a fraction of the price, L’Ancora quickly felt like our home away from home thanks to its attentive and friendly staff. We would definitely want to stay at L’Ancora again on our next visit. Our Room 203: located one floor below the reception desk, the key feature was a balcony overlooking the beach with the classic dome of Santa Maria Assunta in the foreground. Bed was just fair - queen sized and firmer than we usually like but we got used to it. Back to the balcony though - wow! Room for two padded teal chaise lounges and a table with two chairs. Perfect spot for daily breakfast, daily devotions, and a glass of wine before dinner. First impression of this room was that it’s fairly sparse, clean with rather old built in drawers but with a lovely desk adapted to hold a mini-fridge and a classic green tiled bathroom. Water pressure in the shower was great. I must note that our traveling companions had water issues in the room next door - brown tap water one morning - but the hotel worked quickly to resolve things and we never had a problem ourselves. Overall room was very quiet. Breakfast: Pretty typical European breakfast fare with hard boiled eggs, croissants and other pastries, Special K, Corn Flakes, Sugar Pops and Coco Puffs (!), fresh fruit both whole and prepared, toast with honey or jam, juices...and cappuccino done the right way. And...you are welcome to take breakfast back to your room which we did daily, although with small plates and no trays it’s a bit of a balancing act. Location: two doors up from Le Sireneuse Hotel, next to the very trendy Franco’s bar scene, a short walk to shops, down the equivalent of ten stories or so to the beach but with a combination on sloped sidewalks and steps you really don’t notice it that much especially with the distractions from cute shops...very short walk to an ATM. Staff: five stars for the staff! Like other reviewers, you will get to know several during a stay here. Barbara checked us in and was there daily during our stay. Giuseppe assisted with several restaurant recommendations and reservations and cancellations as our plans evolved, Margarethe in housekeeping, Ginaro (spelling?) preparing cappuccino daily (I miss my daily cappuccino!)...all very helpful and even confirmed travel plans made by our U.S. travel agent.
