Want to love this place, but I can't

Jun 29th, 2019

This is my second time here (and third room). After not loving my accommodations last time, I carefully booked a King Coastal View through Amex. Not sure what is coastal about this, it's on the second floor over the pool, you can view the ocean if you peek out from the balcony. It's so loud.... the restaurant and pool are right below and there is a wedding going on, which they are staging right outside the room. Not sure if they just were full and gave our room away or if this is what they consider coastal, but they weren't choices by the time we got here. The staff is really nice, but as somebody else mentioned, it would be nice if they warned you that a wedding was happening right next to you and the that you are going to be in a room over a pool that will be from morning until 11 pm. We have friends here we like to visit, so I think I will try a home rental or something next time and come here for breakfast or a drink. The location is great and it's an easy walk to the beach. They are starting a much needed upgrade soon. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Stay away from here during wedding season!

Jun 23rd, 2019

We came here to splurge on a quiet birthday celebration for my husband. The first room was right on the street with no view so they offered to upgrade us to an ocean view room for half the upgrade fee. The new room was better, but it wasn't really an ocean view unless you went to the far corner of the deck and looked out. What they didn't disclose was that the quaint open patio (adorned with rocking chairs for guests) outside our room would hold a wedding reception the following night. All day there was construction noise as they built the pergola and set up for the wedding reception. Another area was allocated for a cocktail reception - also just below our room. We weren't able to enjoy the property or even our balcony because the noise was so loud. Then the DJ and speeches began. It was if we were part of the wedding we were that close. But we didn't want to be. We went elsewhere to eat dinner, but it was still going on when we returned. Upon check out, we inquired to see if this happens all the time. We were told this is wedding season, so yes. Then when we inquired about the anniversary savings noted in subsequent social media ads (a $380 savings), but we were told we would have had to book through that link which we did not. The anniversary savings included waiving the ridiculous $40 per night parking fee, and $300 to spend at the Spa and restaurant (which we spent more than that). It was very obvious they cater to wedding guests and not to the other guests. The front desk was very uncaring and our stay was truly disappointing, as my husband has always wanted to stay at this hotel. While they did end up waiving the room upgrade fee, it was not worth the amount of money we spent for two nights. We will not return. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

2days of hell

I thought this would be a nice hotel I was surprised to be in a tired overpriced dirty dump Valet guys were great went downhill from there Promised an upgrade for 50$ Charged but never received 35$ resort fee but there is no resort The door slamming went on for hours couldn’t sleep This property is beat up Went outside for decent food I would have been happier at a motel 6 Cross this one off your list TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Miami Beach is Quieter

Jun 22nd, 2019

Stayed here for 5 days on a family vacation - spent three of them complaining about the noise. Between loud office events- positioned right outside our room - or loud weddings with bass bumping until 11pm - it was hardly restful or relaxing. (Wedding looked beautiful)... Wish they told us when we booked that all these events would be going on feet from our room on the outdoor patio. A simple “hey we just wanted to let you know that the cabana room you’re paying a lot of money for will be rendered useless because your cabana patio will be right next to three different open bar events during your stay”... would have gone a long way. Unless you are getting married here or staying here as part of a wedding - stay anywhere else. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Not as nice as I remebered

Jun 19th, 2019

First the great: love location in Del Mar. Staff is super friendly & helpful, great breakfast quality. The bad: I’ve stayed here before and found it is now in need of some updates, especially the hallways, stairwells, and elevator feel more like a rundown motel than a luxury resort. They also push folks to eat on the terrace so at night time between the noise of the pool, drinkers, diners, and music...the hotel is super loud if you actually want to sleep here. I actually prayed for rain during our stay! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
