Quality hotel but rather austere.

Nov 1st, 2019

Stayed a couple of nights, very comfy room, excellent bathroom an nice staff but the whole hotel is very austere in its presentation which we found rather unwelcoming. It is geared for those who visit the thermal baths but fine for other guests, just wish there was a bit more colour around the house. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Wonderful stay for a special occasion

Oct 10th, 2019

We stayed at this House on our trip to the southwest of France. We were welcomed by very friendly and attentive staff. They arranged for us to have our electric car charged overnight which was very much appreciated. That meant we could spend more time the next day exploring the area and find some nice local Armanac instead of searching for a charger and waiting. Our room was nice, large and airy. We were also pleasantly surprised to find some fruits and a bottle of sparkling wine arriving unexpected! It was my birthday and tasted especially good in the setting both outside and in the room. The bathroom was to dream for with a lovely large walk in shower! The restaurant served a nice meal, but not quite up to our, perhaps too high expectations. We had been overwhelmed by the House and its quality during the evening and had perhaps expected too much in the restaurant. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the menu or the presentation at all. But we had been spoilt by some other restaurants on the trip and given the impression the building gave us, had perhaps set our expectations too high. We will definitely return to this Hotel at a future visit. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Fabulous spot in French countryside

Oct 8th, 2019

This is a unique property of exceptional charm, a perfect blend of french country antiques and modern amenities. Service is friendly but professional, cuisine excellent, and very high value for the money. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Extremely civilised

Oct 3rd, 2019

Smart, tranquil, beautiful. Very civilised with lovely grounds and a fine outdoor pool. Light, peaceful public spaces. Sensationally good food and wines - but be prepared to pay handsomely! Lovely room, bed and bathroom. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Fantastic Place Off the Beaten Path

Sep 8th, 2019

For our first trip to France (with kids just under 3 and under 5), we wanted to finish off the beaten path to get some much needed R & R after all the walking, the museums, and cobblestones in Paris and Bordeaux. This was just the perfect place. The grounds of the property are serene and tranquil. The room was modern and huge with everything you would need. The small, but very thoughtful touches were above and beyond anything we expected. For example, they provided a children's bathrobe, children's bath kits, children's nighttime books (in French), and stuffed animals. They welcomed us with a bottle of sparkling wine and amazing juices for the kids. The restaurant is world class. But again, it wasn't the great food that set it apart, but the great service. In particular we thought Madiha provided impeccable service. She had a Jedi-like command over our children, constantly making sure they were taking their bites. At the end of our stay, she gave the kids a behind-the-scenes tour of the kitchen and chef's hat as keepsakes. The small town of Barbotan was also very charming. It had a fantastic market on Wednesday morning. The stores are cute to browse. There is also a walking / biking path right behind the hotel that stretches 40 km along an old railroad line. It is very serene and worth exploring. Finally, the area is rich in houses of Armagnac and wine. We especially liked the nearby villages of Eauze and Larressingle. The visitors in the town were primarily French and retirees, so we definitely stood out being Americans with small children, but everyone was so kind and welcoming to us! We would definitely recommend it for young families if you're okay with that (which we definitely were). Overall, our stay at La Bastide was just the fantastic end to a very memorable trip to France--even if it meant relying much more heavily on our broken French. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
