Great for Easy access to Mount Rushmore

Our room was clean, well appointed and comfortable. The front desk staff and cleaning staff were very attentive. The only down side was that it is attached to the water park and that made for LOTS of youngsters and water floor in the halls ways. The noise level dropped after 9:00P.M., so not that much of a problem. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Nice enough except......

Hotel was nice room was clean. Water park left water all over the floors. When we got home a $12.00 fee appeared on our credit card, apparently there is a resort fee charged. I had already prepaid for my room so it was a surprise. Apparently I signed for in when checking in. Read your paperwork. We only stayed 1 night so I don’t know if it was a one time or per night Fee...... TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

While traveling on an almost 4K mile road trip due to a family emergency, we stayed at La Quinta hotels in Butte, MT/Rapid City, SD/Billings, MT. The rooms were comfortable, family/dog friendly, and clean at each of these hotels. With respect to COVID-19, we felt very safe at both MT hotels where staff wore masks or were behind plexiglass, kept a safe distance, and had a “clean” and “dirty” pen cup for signing. Having stayed at the Butte, MT La Quinta the night prior, we were surprised when we checked in to the Rapid City, SD La Quinta where the staff were not wearing masks, only had one pen for signing in, and were not requiring patrons to maintain physical distancing. On top of that, the hotel is attached to a large indoor water park that was very crowded. The unmasked crowd spilled over into the lobby where we were required to stand to sign in. The hotel had patrons in swim suits drinking in the halls and the elevator/hallway clearly smelled like marijuana (I didn’t see any skunks roaming the halls). When I called to make reservations for our trip, the Wyndham rep advised that La Quinta hotels were implementing COVID-19 measures which were clearly not corporate wide, but rather state specific. My recommendation would be to call ahead to any of the hotels you will stay at to inquire about what measures they have in place. We did this for our return trip to make sure we didn’t make the same mistake twice. We also avoided staying in SD given the lack of state measures to prevent COVID-19. As a physician, I am well aware of the science behind the recommendations for keeping one another safe from this very real virus and have learned the importance of confirming that the hotels are implementing these recommendations. Had we not had to travel during a pandemic, we certainly would’ve stayed home. Lastly, I had concerns about what the hotel itself would be like given prior experiences at La Quinta hotels years ago. We were overall impressed/pleasantly surprised with the La Quinta hotels. For larger families (five in ours) traveling with pets, La Quinta hotels are a great option. Each of the hotels appeared to be updated, clean and comfortable. Hope this helps as you plan your trip! Stay safe! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
