We have booked this hotel for a long weekend although we read reviews according to which the rooms were small, a bit old and the staff unfriendly! Actually we had a completely different expericence and just loved the place: the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming and our room was a lovely and elegant mix of old and new with a beautiful and big new bathroom (all made of marble)! We read that the hotel will be renovated shortly and we hope that they will not do too much work so that the hotel keeps it warm, stylish and individual touch! We just loved and highly recommend la voile d‘or!! We will definitely come back! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

It's a No from Me. Broke my Heart a Little

This was our second stay at La Voile D'or - the first was 3 years ago which was a sublime experience in 2017. Unfortunately this time it was not any where near as good. It's really not worth it. As a hotel guest you cannot use the lower sea pool or terrace without an extra charge, this was not made clear on booking. It was our very special 20 year wedding anniversary and told our booking agent. Not a single person mentioned it. There is no cleaning of your room, no towel or sheet change, no dustbins emptied for 4 days. No room service. There is no service at all really. The breakfast (minimum) is at the lower sea pool this time which we hated as previously it was a fine affair upstairs on the main terrace overlooking the whole med sea and Monaco in the distance. I laid my own breakfast table on the last day. The staff simply do not care as the hotel is closing in a few weeks for a 3 year refurbishment. Coffee at breakfast is delicious. The other choice is tinned fruit, carton juice, supermarket yoghurt pots, cheese slices, smoked salmon, museli, bread rolls, croissants or pain au chocolat. That was it. No hot food, so basic. We tried to have a night cap on the Hotel terrace but the cigar smoke of another guest was overwhelming. We asked to sit in the restaurant and were told we could not. Cancelled our Anniversary dinner reservation as it was so below par. We boycotted the hotel in the end choosing Paloma Beach club, Paloma Restaurant (stunning) in the evening, The Grand Beach club (jaw droppingly gorgeous) and the fab Diva restaurant near the hotel. Such a shame seeing the hotel like this. You live and learn. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

The hotel itself is lovely, the slightly worn out condition of furniture and room didn't bother me much as it is part of the charm. Everything has been well maintained and clean. What I found the most disturbing is the lack of professionalism of the staffs working at the front desk. I'm pretty sure other staffs I didn't get a chance to meet are far better than who I had to deal with, but there are a few who are just not that interested or qualified in accommodating the visitors who doesn't speak french. Once I asked a question in English, they simply say 'I don't know' and stop making any effort to find someone else nor apologies. The guy working in evening was particularly the worst, I guess he's just a guard and not a staff working in a hotel? (But then why a guard sitting at the front desk?) He had zero interest of service and simply said I should ask to someone else working in morning because he doesn't understand. That complete lack of effort and professionalism was rather unique quality you can rarely find in any hotel front desk. Again, I'm not even talking about 3 stars hotel where have a far better service and qualified staffs, this is 5 stars one, and the shock doesn't stop here. Wi-fi is slow and often doesn't work, the breakfast is .... well very basic, no egg and bacon. In Nice, I stayed at 4 stars hotel ( but more like 3 stars) and we had triple more menus than these. Also, this hotel doesn't have room service nor concierge. I sew the sign in front of this hotel that they are having a special price promotion due to the renovation later this year, and that's probably why they don't care anymore or have adequate staffs? It's such a shame that this hotel have very lovely quality such as the location, decor and history, but a few people who aren't qualified working in 5 stars are ruining the good experience. Excellent Emplacement

Very well located Hotel, in a magnificent place and very good restaurant. The service is not so good and also the breakfast is weak. There is some rules in the Hotel that for me sound strange. If you want to go to the swimming pool close to the see, you have to pay Euro$ 35 per person to have an umbrella(parasol) and 2 beach chairs. There is not a beach, but a stair you can reach the sea. Paradise! Amazing location and service in the French Riviera

A friend recommended St-Jean-Cap-Ferrat for our honeymoon, but did not give a specific hotel recommendation. My wife and I ended up at the La Voile D'Or and we couldn't have been more pleased. They gave us a complimentary bottle of Champagne not only for our honeymoon, but also when we returned 16 years later with our teenagers. Food, location, service are all top notch. It was slightly worn in a few places, but really very minor. This is probable my favorite hotel in the world. Just paradise... TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
