I have had the pleasure of staying here several times. Each visit was better than the next! The staff is beyond accommodating and the views of Dana Point incredible. The open air restaurant has great food and superb views. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Pleasant and helpful staff

Oct 14th, 2019

We were here for an outing with a group of about 25. There is valet parking only. Fabulous location above the harbor. We were disappointed to have two beds rather than a king and when I asked to change was told they were 105% booked and they had made a mistake when they remodeled to have too many rooms with two doubles rather than a king. While there was a resort fee we used nothing so that's always a sore subject. It was so nice to have an alarm clock in our room since most hotels don't seem to offer them anymore, but ours didn't work. I asked for it to be replaced but it wasn't. The location is close to nice trails if one likes to hike. I did a hike in the Headland Reserve with a naturalist (a five minutes drive) and it was wonderful as was their nature center. The hotel did a nice job of feeding our group. The first night we had 3 "stations." Mac and cheese (best ever!), taco's and dessert. I spotted two gift shops on the property but sadly they were so hidden I didn't get to shop because they were closed when I saw them although they do have long hours. I would highly recommend this resort for its proximity to everything and for the nice service. Would advise not relying on their Starbucks for take out yogurt like I did, however. $10.50 for a small cup with fruit! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

The general vibe of the hotel is relaxing and pleasant. It's not gonna blow anyone's socks off but it's nice. This was our second time to the property for a quick getaway. On our arrival the guy at the front desk tried to upgrade us to a room for $50 that would have been more expensive than if we just chose that room in the first place. Keep in mind that there is a combination of the resort fee + valet fee. Resort is $29 and valet is $39. It's seems so lame that they can't just combine them. There are zero other parking options for the property so valet is your only option. This property really seems like more of a business/conference property. I don't recommend this property for a pool day. They swear the pool heated to 81 degrees but it doesn't seem like it. While we were in the pool other people commented that they were surprised we could swim in the cold water. Also nobody is at the pool to serve ANYTHING. AT all! So don't go thinking your going to have a drink and relax poolside. There was no restaurant open in the evening. We ended up ordering food and it was a nightmare because the hotel won't let delivery people park to delivery to the lobby. They call you and tell you to come to the loading dock - wherever that is. Overall, I'd recommend somewhere else in the area depending on your trip. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Nice relaxing hotel!

Oct 6th, 2019

My husband had a conference at this hotel last week and I joined him for the last couple days for some R & R. The hotel is older, but has been updated and didn’t really feel old! Our room was great—didn’t love the pillows and didn’t love that there was no fan in the bathroom but besides that we really enjoyed the room. It was clean, comfortable and spacious. The pool areas were fantastic and well-maintained. If you are wanting to enjoy the hot tub, use the Del Mar pool, not the Laguna. The jets in the Laguna jacuzzi were not that strong. Kind of a bummer, since the Laguna pool area is touted as being more adult friendly with less kids. Del Mar has a really nice area with daybeds overlooking the ocean as well. Enjoyed lounging around! It was very close to Doheny Beach, which was nice. Fun to go watch surfers and enjoy the nice California breeze. This hotel is on a very steep hill, so if you walk anywhere plan for a steep hike back up the road or there are stairs up the opposite side. (Over 100 steep stairs!) Worked off the yummy banana mac nut pancakes we had at Stacks! Every person we met on staff was super friendly and helpful. Great customer service from each person we interacted with. We had. A great time and would stay here again! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Very comfortable hotel with great location

Oct 3rd, 2019

I recently stayed at this hotel for Ohana music festival with my adult children and small grandchildren for two nights. The rate was almost double the usual rate due to the location next to the festival but I think it was almost worth it. The service was great, especially Jordan Holland who emailed me out of the blue to help with any needs before my arrival! She was able to make sure the family was all together which made a big difference to us. Also the wait staff for breakfast was incredible, very attentive and friendly! Thanks to the valet staff as well, also very friendly. The hotel is up on a hill with amazing views of the ocean. One place to eat, small but an outside sitting area which is so nice. Bar at night was very busy due to the concert, but small overall. The rooms were very spacious, beds amazing and linens high quality. We were all very happy staying here. The pool looks nice, plenty of chairs. They give you bikes for two hours without charging. I didn't take advantage of the spa, but they have one. My only problem is being a platinum member and getting nothing for it but a coupon for a continental breakfast, not the $10 dollar more one which I can have eggs with. I am not sure who gets those, but I am very sure they were not going to give me one! Spending so much money for three rooms, being high status, and not being recognized for $10 dollar more when at other Bonvoy sites you get so much more, was slightly disappointing. Thus the 4 rather than 5 stars. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
