Bullet Point Review
Dec 3rd, 2020
We stayed at Laurel Crest for the week of Thanksgiving, 2020. We had 3 one-bedroom units: Two one-bedroom Standard and one one-bedroom Deluxe. The Deluxe and one of the one-bedroom units were adjoined via a shared foyer and the third unit was next door. We are Holiday Inn Club Vacation Owners and used our points through RCI to book the reservations. There is very little description about what type of unit you're getting. I called Laurel Crest about a month ahead of time to ask about the washer/dryer situation, but the reservation had not yet been sent to them from RCI. I failed to call back closer to our travel date, but I would recommend doing so. If you can get into a townhouse, I'd try for that. The staff was very friendly and responded to all of my inquiries and requests with cheerful graciousness. I could not find a list of what was provided in the way of appliances and utensils, so I made one: Cuisinart 12-cup coffer maker with a re-usable filter Cuisinart blender Knife block with 8 steak knives, bread knife, filet knife, paring large steak knife, chef's knife, and scissors Pizza pan, casserole pan, cookie sheet (non-stick metal) 3 non-stick skillets, graduated sizes colander, pitcher, measuring cup (2 cup, glass) large glass salad bowl glasses, cups, wine glasses spatula, serving spoons, cheese grater, whisk, tongs pizza cutter, can opener, vegetable peeler, cork screw Measuring spoons Standard flatware service 3 pots, graduated sizes 3 glass bowls with plastic lids 2 small glass casserole dishes Serving platter, plates, bowls, coffee mugs Paper towels, trash bags, dishwasher detergent Coffee, popcorn, salt and pepper Toaster Ice bucket and tongs Broom, dustpan, carpet sweeper, plunger Iron, ironing board, laundry basket, laundry detergent Blow dryer The following are observations I made throughout our stay: TV over the fireplace is obviously not level. Pull-out mattress in second unit is very uncomfortable with springs very obvious and pokey. Could not swap the mattress with a better one as it's attached to the frame. Standard room bedrooms are at the front of the unit with a window on the balcony and, therefore, close to noise from neighbors coming and going and the trash truck (which picked-up at 5am). Leaf blowers started at sunrise and continued until after sunset for one day. There is no walking path to the main lodge/pools. Mattress pad provided did not fit sofa bed mattress. The space at the end of the king bed in the Deluxe room is about 18", so no passing room. Shower in Deluxe room is very small. Very, very small. Shaving one's legs requires either drowning, turning off the water, or getting out. Built-in shelves around fireplace are bare and feel like a waste of space given the tight spaces elsewhere. The living area has a vaulted ceiling... but only if you're on the top floor. Floor in Deluxe Unit was very unlevel and bouncy. This alone made us feel like the building was not well constructed. The kitchen in the Deluxe room seems big enough, until more than one person tries to get into it. It's definitely a one-butt kitchen. The appliances are very loud. The refrigerators in two of the units made squealing noises. To be fair, other than the leaf blowers and garbage truck, the resort was very quiet and the appliance noises stood out in that quiet. Along with the ticking of the fireplace timer. Sliding door track in Deluxe unit is very rough and feels off. May be due to the unlevel-ness of the floor. Seriously, the whole building is sloped. Bathroom door latch broken in second unit. Light switch to water closet in Deluxe unit is only near the door to the hallway. There is not switch from the bedroom side. (I'm an Interior Designer and this violates IBC.) There are no grab rails in the bathrooms. The units are obviously not ADA compliant (I do not know the availability of such units), but having some handrails, especially around the whirlpool tub, would be nice. The bathroom vanities are about 32", which feels low. If you have a bad back, brushing your teeth and washing your face can be uncomfortable. The fire alarm goes off every time the oven is opened (and hot). Trash from next door was left on the balcony more than 24 hours. Animals spread it around. Playground was locked with a chain when it should have been open. Had to call to have it unlocked. There were no chess pieces on the chess set. The top drawer of the dishwasher sticks. Plastic cover on dishwasher lock falls off. Furniture is fairly comfortable. Sofa cushions are memory-foamy. The upholstery is durable, but scratchy. King bed in Deluxe room was very comfortable. There's a DVD player in the bedroom, but not the main living area. A note on timeshares. This is a Bluegreen Vacations Timeshare property. We are not Bluegreen owners. We were offered a $150 gift card if we were willing to go to there presentation. We are timeshare owners, so we had an idea of what to expect. We had a rainy day, so we went. It was not at the resort, but at a Bluegreen facility in Sevierville. The presentation was thorough and informative and hit all the reasons we bought a timeshare to begin with. It was about an hour long, followed by a tour of their sample units on the property (the nicest and biggest ones, of course). All-told, it took 2 1/2 hours with the last 1/2 hour spent turning down their offers. If you decide to buy-in, expect to take a lot longer. This resort is well-appointed with everything one could need. However, the construction quality and overall design of the space are very poor and I can't conscionable recommend this resort. A beautiful resort away from the crowds but extremely convenient to everything. You are nearby to everything in Pigeon Forge or Sevierville and all that it offers. A Publix and Kroger is nearby and it is well equipped. I'd recommend this and will visit again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

As a Bluegreen owner, I expected more. Room was way too small. I’ve stayed in hotel rooms larger. Couch and chair in living room were outdated and way too uncomfortable and hard. Nice location, though. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Our stay was pleasant in spite of COVID-19 restrictions Our accommodations were better than last year. We had a unit with laundry inside. Our guests were unable to come at the last minute so we had the two bedroom unit to enjoy. Everything was immaculate and there was disinfectant under each sink in the kitchen and bathroom. The kitchen was pretty well stocked to prepare some of our meals. Because the laundry takes up some of the space in the master suite, the vanity and shower are very small. That was the only thing that was less desirable; however, we did appreciate being able to bring less clothes. Otherwise the unit was spacious. The TV in the master bedroom wasn't working but a very nice man from maintenance came promptly to correct that. The bed was very comfortable with nice linens and it was very quiet night and day. My husband was able to enjoy the pool. Look forward to returning. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
