Great Stay-Quiet

Jan 12th, 2020

I was on the third floor as it was very quiet, though the hotel was not very busy I think there were limited travelers staying there. The bed was soft and comfortable, there was a in room safe and mini-fridge. The shower didn't get onto the floor for me, it has a rainhead shower that pointed straight down. I liked that you could self park for $20 a night and there was plenty of parking available. Breakfast was really good. The hotel is actually attached to a Sheraton so it is a large conference center hotel. I didn't see any bugs and the carpet seemed very clean. THe a/c did struggle a little the first night, but over all really great stay. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Let's say it could have been better...

Jan 1st, 2020

I'm a long time Marriott elite member and standards for stays and service are an expectation even on New Year's Eve. Le Meridien is under that umbrella of properties! Unfortunately despite the lovely decor and pleasant check in staff, the rest of our stay made us almost check out at 4am. We were there for their special NYE package, dinner at Evoke, 1 night stay, and party on rooftop. I booked the package separate from the room because I had enough points to redeem. On arrival, we used valet, no issue except for slight wait. Check in took longer, but it was NYE and expected with a small check in counter and only 3 staffed there. In the future they may want to consider having elite members check in separate so our wait is not as long. Room was lovely. 16th floor, looked like some newer modern furnishings which I enjoy seeing. The room: bed was too low for my liking and the euro style shower with only half a door is never preferred. Needed to request extra towels, but that's not a big deal. Bed was comfortable to sleep on, once we got to sleep. Dinner at Evoke: I'm tempted to separate this from the hotel review, but it was ok. For a prix fix meal I expected to be wowed and I wasn't. From the line wait, to there being only the manager checking reservations in, to them obviously being short staffed for a busy night. After our wait in line we were seated and waited an additional 10min to be acknowledged by a server. She was fabulous and I'll have to write a separate review for restaurant because she saved that portion of night. The meal wasn't filling enough for me, so I ordered room service afterwards and the pork belly sandwich was good, but please include a side of bbq sauce next time. Lacked flavor. Party: Elevators were broken off and on all evening, confirmed by other guests. We chilled and went up to party around 1030 pm. Party was dead due to colder temps *(30s) and a DJ who only did house music. This meant only a select few were actually dancing even inside at the warmer bar area. It wasn't crowded which I prefer and the drinks my husband had were good he said. The free drink tickets from the package were used for both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, so that helped. We left before midnight because I couldn't take standing around much anymore with only a few heaters outside and it becoming more crowded. Reason why 3 stars: Fire alarm went off at 130ish am. We were asleep and not sure if it was legit, but it stayed on for awhile so we got dressed, grabbed valuables and headed to stairs. Did I mention we were on 16th floor and I'm 9 months pregnant. Yeah babymoon fail! We slowly made it down and waited in lobby for firemen to come down and say they found no fire. (Not shocking!) We were allowed back upstairs. One of the firemen and a staff member noticed I was pregnant and looked worried. Asked if I was ok and I advised yes, even though my knees and legs were burning and my baby was kicking me to high heaven. Took elevator back up. Then around 300am, a couple were next door verbally fighting. Loud enough for me to know their entire relationship history and current issues. Either those walls are paper thin or the couple was likely drunk. NYE. Either way, they continued to go back and forth, even taking it to the hallway. It finally subsided around 4am. Unfortunately I was awake until 5am because of that disruption. By the time our 830a alarm went off I was happy to leave before something else happened. The reception desk attendee didn't even acknowledge the fire alarm incident when asking how was my stay. I'm very visibly pregnant. I advised her not good. They removed the valet parking which was fine, but not going to prevent this write up. We could have stayed at Ritz Carlton but I wanted to be a little outside the main downtown chaos. Never again at least not on NYE, and I am just grateful 16 flights of stairs didn't shock my body into labor. The pain I continue to feel however is a not so gentle reminder of the ordeal. Friendly Staff Helped this Property

Dec 18th, 2019

First stay here, having lived in Charlotte over 10 years, didn’t really stay in the hotels… Hotel has changed hands a time or three over the years and used to be the hotel to go to in downtown Charlotte before the bust them boom that started around 2007. Location is good, easy 15 minute walk to the center of downtown, and a short (but not well-lit or easy) walk to the Metropolitan shopping area. Lobby has obviously been re-vamped in the last few years, looks very clean and nice, lots of room. Hotel lobby connects to the lobby of the Sheraton. Staff were very polite and friendly, made me feel welcome. Received the text before arrival stating I’d been assigned a room upgrade. Was congratulated by staff upon checking for the upgraded room as well. Off to a great start! Never expect these, but always enjoy. Walked up to the room and observed I was approaching my door in the center of the hallway, in a row of room doors with the same cadence, uh oh… Entered to find a standard room with two full beds. Upgrade, did someone say upgrade? Room – Room was basic Marriott room with two full beds. The beds sat pretty low to the ground, was a decent enough bed. Room size was ok, not big not small. Decent size TV in the room, again, not huge, but fit ok in the room. Had a window looking toward downtown. Room appears to have been renovated in the last 5 years or so. Upgrade – I walked back down to make sure I’d received the correct room, as I didn’t get my normal king bed and because the room was no upgrade. Was told all room with an even room number, think one half of the hotel, are considered “upgraded” rooms. Why, because they have a city view. WTH? Really? When did this become the rule, Marriott?? If I was someone using a hard earned upgrade voucher and got this as my upgrade, I’d be…. I laughed at the man’s response, but he didn’t think it was funny. I’ve never heard of half the room in a hotel property being considered upgraded rooms and the reason being they face the city. Also asked why no king beds and told me the kings were all sold out. Seriously? By noon on Monday and all kings are taken in a large property? Ok, moving on, no big deal, was just curious. Bathroom – Ok bathroom, not very big. Again has been redone in the last 5-6 years. TV – Had issues getting my TV to work all week, highlighted by not being able to watch Monday Night Football. Made several calls and trips to front desk, but they weren’t able to get it resolved. Of note, WiFi is not solid here either. They finally gave me a voucher to buy some drinks and watch the game at the bar. A nice gesture. They then asked it I wanted to switch rooms, seems a king had come available… But it was at 10pm and I was just ready to sleep, didn’t want to pack up and move. Emailed the GM about the TV issue and he responded pretty quickly apologizing for the internet and TV issues, said they’re upgrading those things currently. Concierge Lounge – Hotel has a nice club lounge on the lobby level, very friendly staff at breakfast and dinner. Good options at both times. And… free beer and wine. Very nicely done here. Had 5 or 6 beers to choose from and a few wine options. Overall, good stay. Hotel feels newer than expected, knowing the history of the building. Friendly staff and GM. Good lounge. Location is good enough so you can walk to most downtown/city center needs unless extreme weather. Would stay again as long as they’ve upgraded and stabilized the TVs. Service and friendliness pushed the 3 star up to 4... TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great Staff

Dec 17th, 2019

From Check In to Check Out, a great place. People who made our stay fantastic started with Darius, Mo, Guzman in the lobby, Ashley, Sam, Dane and Chris in the restaurant. They and everyone else we met all made us feel welcomed and valued. Rooms could use a little sprucing up, but were clean and comfortable. Tell Mo that Bella the beast misses him ! Eye opening

Dec 8th, 2019

This was my first stay at the hotel and it will not be the last. Christmas party event nudged me to get a room for an overnight stay. Best decision ever! When you see the photos you will understand why. The website was easy to use and not too busy. There are plenty parking spaces, valet and covered. The covered parking lighting was a bit dated but it was well lit. The ACC football game was so going on that night so the lobby’s of both hotels were buzzing with fans and pregame fan activity, very high energy. The staff were super friendly and with all that was going and the volume of people flooding in and out they made check in for everyone smooth. Everyone had a genuine smile on their face and the customer service was on point with each guest. The room had an amazing view. The bed was simply amazing, so comfortable, so soft. One of the best nights sleep I’ve had in a long while. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
