Good-Not Great

Jan 19th, 2020

I wanted to love it but there were some bumps along the way. Staff were friendly and welcoming. When we checked in the bellhop was not exactly eager to take our bags to the room. We ended up bringing them ourselves. The room we were in was nice, had a faux gas fire place and overlooked a small park. Unfortunately it was also over a dumpster which we discovered was a gathering spot for people drinking late at night. At checkout we discovered a mini bar charge when we took nothing from it. Turns out the bottle of water they leave in the bathroom at turndown is not free. Odd. The charge was eventually waived. Wife also had great difficulty getting into the gym. After 3 bad keys the manager had to let her in. Somewhat minor points but they add up after a while. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Perfect weekend

Jan 19th, 2020

L'Hotel Place d'Armes may be the most charming hotel we have ever stayed in. We were in Montreal (first time) for a special occasion and the accomodations were special as well. Staff were the creme-de-la-creme, esp. Sam B., one of the concierge/doormen. He acclimated us to the hotel and the city and was a superb ambassador for both the hotel and his community. Sam had many suggestions for sights and dining and proved to be a reliable resource. We will definitely be back to Montreal which we loved and hope to visit the Hotel Place d'Armes again. C'est parfait! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Best hotel ever!

Jan 16th, 2020

We have traveled fairly extensively in North America and Europe and feel that the personnel at this hotel provided us with the best experience ever! The hotel is a manageable size and provides outstanding amenities including two good bars, a full service spa and excellent restaurant. From the moment we entered the lobby we were welcomed like good friends. The lobby smells lovely and the desk personnel smiled and went out of their way to accommodate us. Our room was upgraded automatically and the valet took our car promptly and carefully to the garage. The room was not quite ready when we arrived so we went to the restaurant for a snack. When we returned the valet took our bags cheerfully and promptly to our room. The room was spacious and spotless. The bathroom was huge with a wonderful shower and plenty of hot water. Our rest was comfortable and quiet and in the evening we received bottles of water and chocolates. Since the weather was inclement we needed taxi service which we received at a moment’s notice and the hotel even provided door to door service for a short distance to dinner one evening. The chief concierge was particularly kind and knowledgeable and helped us to arrange for a tour guide for us when other tours were unavailable. I can’t say enough about our wonderful stay. It encourages us to return soon to Montreal. The location was in the older section of the city which added to its charm but close to the subway, convention center and the Basilica. Other hotels should use this hotel as an example for training. Merci beaucoup to everyone on the staff of Hotel Place D’Armes! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Nice, favorably located, accomodation with helpful staff

Jan 14th, 2020

Each of the day and night concierge personnel worked tirelessly (and creatively) on our behalf to get our family scarce tickets to the opening of Cirque du Soleil in APR 2019. Good breakfasts and a relatively central location were also highlights. The only drawback is that the street address is not unique in Google Maps and therefore, upon arrival in Montreal, we found ourselves in the wrong part of the city! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Can't wait to return!

Jan 12th, 2020

We celebrated our engagement at this hotel for three nights. We really wanted a room with a brick wall and this was not only accommodated, but we were upgraded to a junior suite (we did not need to ask, this was already arranged when we arrived!). The room was spacious, clean, and cozy. You feel like you are in a room with history (wooden doors, brick wall, old door knobs), but the rooms are updated to provide a modern feel. Comfortable bed and pillows, beautiful bathroom, and bottled water and chocolates provided daily. We were also surprised with a bottle of champagne our first night -- very thoughtful and unexpected! Location: Perfect. We could hear the Notre Dame basilica bells upon our arrival and the surrounding buildings are absolutely beautiful. It was important to us to be in Old Montreal as wanted to experience Montreal's history. The hotel is close to great restaurants, historic pubs, unique cafes, the Old Port, Bota Bota (try this spa!!), the Underground City, and more. Staff: There is a doorman who greets you at the door (very friendly and more than willing to help with directions). Umbrella's are provided for the day on your way out if it is raining -- this saved us! The front desk staff were wonderful -- incredibly helpful and conversational. Afis Alkimi was a great help at 6:00am as we were struggling to find transportation to the airport due to freezing rain. Afis was very pleasant to talk with and he provided some interesting facts about the hotel/city as we waited. We did not grab anyone else's name unfortunately, but all staff were very welcoming and helpful. We will absolutely return to Hotel Place d'Armes each and every time we travel to Montreal. My fiance did his research and it paid off -- this is the perfect place to stay if you are staying in Old Montreal! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
