Not the Marriott Standard

Jul 13th, 2019

We were very excited about our stay at the London County Hall. We enjoyed the atmosphere around the hotel... it’s a bit touristy but when you walk down a bit along the river there is lots of nightlife and great restaurants. The rooms were nice and the staff was very friendly. The fitness center is the best we have ever seen at a hotel so that was nice. The executive lounge was nice but bottled water would have been a nice perk. The cons- being a titanium member we did not feel the service was up to par with the typical and cheaper Marriott hotels that we stay at. We used suite upgrade vouchers and they were not able to provide the accommodation or an upgrade at all. So we let that slide. We were then told that our room was a bit far from the elevator but the view was worth it. Great! Very wrong!!!! We were in 501 which is the farthest room from the elevator (about 3-5 min walk - we don’t mind walking but it was a bit annoying) and the view was definitely nothing special that a dozen other rooms didn’t have. It also took them almost an hour to bring our luggage up to our room after we arrived. We had to call down twice to receive it. This is not the typical treatment for titanium members in other hotels. Overall the hotel was fine but I’m happy we used points for our stay as it is not worth the $500 plus a night price tag. We had to get another hotel for another night after leaving the city for 3 nights and we went with a cheaper hotel due to thinking the hotel was overpriced. It is very convenient to attractions and we walked to many places and were able to catch the train at Waterloo and the tube at both Westminster and Waterloo with ease. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Very welcoming

This hotel felt like home by the time we left! The doorman, Graham, always ensured that we knew how to get around the city in the morning and checked how our day went when we came back. The night doorman was always polite and made sure we were okay when we went out at night. Everyone greeted us as we went through the hotel and we always felt comfortable and welcome. Gorgeous hotel, unbeatable location, excellent service

Jul 11th, 2019

Brought my 3 kids 10, 13 and 15 to England solo. Given short stay in London of 2 nights and 3 days wanted to make the most of our time. So, location is key. Couldn’t be more happy with our choice. Instead of traveling to see sites, we saw them right from our neighborhood, even right from our hotel room which had a view of Big Ben, London Eye, Parliament House. We walked to/from hotel to Buckingham Palace, Horses Guard, 10 Downing Street, Charring Cross shopping, Trafalgar Square, Covent Garden, West End shows, Parliament, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, London Eye and our Thames RIB river experience loaded across the bridge. Setting is beautiful. Hotel is historic. Service is great. And they have a HUGE swimming pool the kids enjoyed. We arrived to a personal greeting by the host, who gave the kids “champagne” sparking cider in champagne flutes with meringues. They felt they had died and gone to heaven as they rested weary feet and set down their luggage to sit on plush couches and toast each other. See pic as it is actually the building you see behind the London Eye. Easy 5 min walk across bridge from South Bank to West Bank. Breakfast buffet is not a highway robbery unless you have a lot of adults as hotel food goes - kids buffet 8 pounds; adult 29. With so little time, access to the many sites made our visit because we were able to accomplish a lot in a little time. Note, the price for the two weeks in July summer we were considering are incredibly steep at $600-$800 per night. I checked in August and the prices were way more reasonable in the $300 range. Not sure what was going on. I used combo of points and cash which made it work for us. Keep in mind, London is one of the most expensive cities in the world so buckle up for sticker shock. Still, I’m giving 5 stars because we couldn’t have seen/done all that we did without the superb location. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here at County Hall. The Westminster Suite exceeded our expectations, it’s a beautiful presidential suite, great views of Parliament and Big Ben. The staff could not have been better. Every member of staff we encountered were courteous and kind. Thank you for the lovely welcoming bottle of fizz and dessert in our suite! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
