Great Location and Accommodating Staff
Jul 20th, 2019
We recently stayed for 11 nights and found the location to be a perfect base for our interest in long walks to different neighborhoods in London--both centrally located and less congested. Initially, we were scheduled to visit the Marriott in early January, but had a last minute cancellation because of illness. The hotel worked with us to reschedule the trip with no financial penalty which we greatly appreciated. With our Marriott Gold Membership we had access to the Club Lounge which we used for daily continental breakfast, afternoon tea and snacks, and happy hour. We found the check out process easy. We arrived from the states mid-morning and walked over from the Paddington train station (it was a long walk with bags on a warm morning so was happy with the offer of a cold glass of water). Our room was not available so they checked our bags and gave us access to the Club Lounge and by early afternoon we were in our room. Our Executive King room on the top floor was very comfortable and quiet. The rooms are a little dated and could use for example new carpeting and paint. We also had a small leak in the bathroom sink that we reported a few times. They always sent a plumber quickly, but never able to resolve so we just put a towel down. We would definitely use this Marriott on future London visits. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Good Hotel But...

Another flying visit to this hotel. Great location, good clean rooms and places to eat. Staff are fine. However check-in continues to be delayed and chaotic a common occurrence when I stay here. As an Ambassador Elite member I arranged for check in at 11am due to a hectic schedule. Upon arrival I was told no rooms were ready which frankly was expected based on previous experiences with this hotel. We left our luggage and departed the hotel for meetings. I received a message from the hotel at 330pm to say my room was ready, 4.5 hours after check in. Upon returning to the hotel our luggage wasn’t put in the room as promised and took 30 minutes to locate. As mentioned check in and general organisation at reception is regularly chaotic here and never seems to change. That said there are positives such as location and room quality and I will likely use again but only after exploring other local options. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

On July 11th 2019 myself and a friend attended the Variety club dinner in Honour of Sir Cliff Richard. We arrived at the specified time and were shown to the drinks reception which was fine. After this we were shown into the ballroom and at first everything seemed okay although we were on the table at the back of the room facing the wall. However soon after this the issues started, as we were in the pathway to other tables for the waiting staff who tried to serve and it was evident there was not enough room between our table and the next. We were continually bumped as each waiter/waitress passed. Plates were removed from our table while others were still eating!! The third course plates were left on our table until the end of the evening and only then was coffee served. This was very bad organisation especially for a black tie event!! The waiting staff were emaculately dressed, but some of the other staff were not as we would expect for a black tie event as they were wearing black leggings. All the guests who paid highly for this event had concurred to the black tie dress code so why not the staff. I needed to have a toilet break during the evening like may others only to be informed there were NO toilets on the floor where the ballroom was. I was informed by a member of staff It was a walk back upstairs to the reception and then down a big flight of stairs to another basement. I do believe this is unacceptable to have no toilet facilities on the same floor as the ballroom. We had been so looking forward to this event for some time and did enjoy the evening as far as honouring Sir cliff Richard but feel the London Marriot fell a long way short of food and service. The meal itself was okay but nothing ‘special’ for the money we paid, although we do appreciate it was a charity event and do not begrudge anything that did go to the variety club. We had travelled a long way for this event and we feel we made a lot of effort on our appearance being a black tie event, but feel very let down by the Marriot and it’s staff. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Like others said: Great location. That's about it.

Not going to complain about the price. It's summer and rooms are in demand. That's the way it is. Generally the staff are helpful and friendly. Check in was a breeze. Housekeeping was attentive. Replaces coffee/tea, Walker's cookies daily. During our stay, the Eastern European doorman occasionally greets you depending on his mood. One elevator was broke down on TWO occasions. And the bell boy was a little brash when communicating. Interesting label on the mini-fridge about not using the ridge to store personal items. And the fridge has a sensor to detect if you open it or not. What's this? 1984? As a Marriott platinum member, I get free enhanced wifi. Speedtest reveals an average of 5mbps download. Might as well use homing pigeons. My 4G phone is measured at 25mbps in London. The wifi is utterly pointless. There are mould in the bathroom. Broken shower fixture that might cut you while you shower. And then the water damages on the lower part of the door. These are just some examples. I have to remind myself I am staying here for the points. And the location. Put yourself in the management's shoes. If you have a great location and it's almost always in high demand, why bother fixing the little things in the room? Remember. Stay only for the location. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Average hotel over priced
Jul 11th, 2019
This hotel has a great Location for those wanting to be close to oxford street and hyde park etc. The hotel however is below average for the price and marriott category that it sells at. Waited 5 hours for a very small room which was averagely appointed. They have no public area where one could change for a meeting given their standard check in is 3pm. The very small room was not the most clean. The largish chair in the room was wearing off on its leather and was stained. The amenities in the room were basic and limited television options available. There is one restaurant which doubles up as coffee shop and bar. Breakfast was poor and disappointing. Was forced to eat out. They seem to have some sort of a lounge or nightclub which I dint get a chance to visit. The gym was windowless in the basement and basic but atleast existed. For the price that it sells at , I am certain one could find a much better hotel. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
