Basics for a Hotel don't exist here

Oct 26th, 2020

I personally need a good night of sleep and a proper shower. Those basics don't exist here. The rooms have a "smart" light under the bed that turns on when someone walks by, an interesting idea to help people go to the bathroom. Unfortunately this light is not smart at all, it has its own life and turns on at it own will, walking you up many times in the middle of the night. The windows are not soundproofed so you will hear a lot of external noise. Finally, we were three people ,three days, nine showers. Three out of nice showers were cold, there was no hot water. Final day before going to the airport it would be great to shave, no hot water. Room communications via the Marriott app still has a lot to improve. It takes on average 30 minutes for someone to respond. Most of the requests you have to do it yourself (go down for an extra blanked or basis like toilette paper. There was not enough toilette paper and we had to go to the reception for more). On the positive side, good location, nice staff, nice decoration. BTW, the arcades are free of charge but they don't work. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Not Your Normal Hotel

Aug 31st, 2020

This hotel is unique. The check in area is also a full service bar. Your first drink or snack is on the house. The large lobby has pinball machines and classic video games. There's also a pool table and game tables with jenga blocks, standard and large. The pool area has table tennis, cornhole and more jenga. We had a room with two queen beds. It was large, very clean and the beds were so comfy. We enjoyed sitting on the private balcony overlooking the pool area sipping our adult beverages. Room access is inside and there's only one way in and out of the hotel. We like that and the fact every room has a private balcony. More hotels chains should do that. We liked everything about Moxy. It's unique features, including room decor, large pool and common areas are reasons why we'll stay at Moxy hotels whenever possible. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

The Staff is Amazing!

May 11th, 2020

My friend and I stayed at this hotel in March 2020 and had the BEST time! The Staff was amazing and truly took care of us. We accidentally lost both of our phones and the staff was so sweet in helping us (especially one of the guys - sorry can't remember his exact name!). They also helped us out a lot with recommendations and even made amazing drinks + pizza. They were all so nice and we truly felt like they were friends! Overall, we loved our experience and would definitely recommend this hotel! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Interesting concept, awful execution

Mar 15th, 2020

Really wanted to like this hotel, especially since I've stayed at over 15 different Marriott hotels in Phoenix over the past 6 months. Located not far from downtown Tempe and the ASU campus, 11 min from the airport the Moxy is in a great location. The pink sign is easy to find from the street However, for some terrible reason the awning in front of the hotel is open to the elements, and it was raining a ton when we first got there. Why have a roof thats open to the elements? Got in there soaking wet late Thursday (and no one to help unload from the car either). Front desk was empty, staff on duty were nice but incompetent. Took over 10 minutes for check-in (only gave me a slightly larger room after requesting it as a Titanium ambassador and that took another 5 minutes). Was supposed to get a welcome drink but I had to read up on it and ask as opposed to getting it offered (and was only offered to me and not my friend staying with me). At least they let me borrow an umbrella so I can go back out into the thunderstorm. They are stocked with a variety of games ranging from foosball, pool, jenga, pinball machines, etc. Get to the room, and its a decent size. Bed had thin covers but relatively comfortable. Sliding door for the bathroom so that's different, but worked well enough. Room was fairly dark, the patio let in an ok amount of light but nothing like the Westin with floor to ceiling windows. There is decent amount of sitting area, and guitar is a plus. Now wake up in the morning and there is a giant leak through the ceiling, room smells like mildew. Had to take a number of calls throughout the day so moved rooms later - all I got was a small $13.33 voucher for my trouble. And even worse, the hotel bill didn't take it off my drinks after I checked out. Later found out the hotel used to be a dorm, then a holiday inn, residence inn, and finally a Moxy. NOT A NEW HOTEL! The gym door didn't work either for my key card, staff was indifferent, sent engineering to open the door but didn't look into why my room key wouldnt open it. Left the gym, couldn't get back in, and gave up. Literally, the worst stay I've ever had in a hotel in years. Let's see if the GM even cares and offers to contact me. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Not bad but geared to young crowd

Feb 14th, 2020

There were many people 40 and over staying at this hotel, but it's definitely geared to late 20 somethings. Plusses: --Rooms are nicely decorated --Bathrooms are well done (though could use dimmers) --Gym is a bit spartan and not super equipped but large enough to get a workout --Mostly friendly staff Things I wasn't crazy about: --No dresser --No armoir (where do you put your stuff? What if you want to actually unpack your suitcase? There's no where to put anything. It's asinine) --I don't care to see all my clothes displayed on the stupid hooks on the wall in the room --No irons in the room? I have no desire to do communal ironing in a room down the hall. --The explanation for this seemingly arbitrary decision to forego normal furniture in the room is to "give people more room to do yoga." Seriously? --Noise bleed from room next door; I"m not sure that they improved the sound proofing when Moxy took over this place, but I heard everything in the room next to me; luckily, the AC unit is loud and drowned most of it out. --The lobby is often as loud as a nightclub with music and the pinball machines; it's hard to even work down there during the day; --The location, while close to downtown Tempe, is on a busy six lane road and not super walkable to Mill Ave area; TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
