Two night anniversary stay

Oct 25th, 2020

Stayed for 2 nights in a balcony room to celebrate our anniversary. The location is amazing and the view from the room was stunning. Our deal included breakfast both days plus an afternoon tea and dinner on the first night. The food was excellent and we really enjoyed it, however the wine was very overpriced - £38 for an £8 bottle of Malbec! Very good service from Tomas for both the afternoon tea and at dinner. The room aside from the balcony was disappointing. It was a ‘deluxe suite’ but was quite small. Hardly any toiletries provided and housekeeping didn’t even replace them. We didn’t use the pool or spa as you have to prebook a certain time and we didn’t want to over plan our break. Overall we had a great time but just felt it was very expensive for what we got compared to other hotels we’ve stayed at before. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Perfectly located

Oct 24th, 2020

We stayed here for a few days, the hotel decor is very fitting for the building, very traditional. The lounge area is relaxing with views across Lake Windermere. The restaurant food is very tasty, full of flavour and the staff are very attentive. The drinks in the bar/ lounge are quite pricey and I’d say the hotel may be a problem for those who can’t do stairs very well. There is a lift however, depending on where the room is, will depend on whether there are still stairs to climb. I would definitely stay here again as the location and the staff were great. Can’t wait to return

Oct 24th, 2020

We stayed in September as a family of 3 on a Beatrix Potter deal and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel is full of character and the location is amazing with views onto the lake from the restaurant and the bar. Our room was nice and spacious and we found the service and the friendliness of the staff to be very good. I cannot speak highly enough of the food both at breakfast and dinner, my personal highlight was smoked salmon and scrambled eggs for breakfast. Evening meals were delicious- nicely cooked and beautifully presented. Although drink prices are on the higher end, we were aware of that and budgeted accordingly. If I could offer a suggestion, it would be regarding children swim times. They are rather limited, considering your room may not be ready till 4pm and check out is at 11am, and Children’s swim time does not start until 10am and stops at 5pm. Would be nice to extend it for at least an hour each way, especially considering that there are individual lanes for swimming so no child will get in the way. Overall, we enjoyed our stay in September so much that we booked 2 more stays and will coming again in a weeks time with another stay booked for just after Christmas. Thank you very much to all the staff for making our stay a wonderful experience. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Our first visit, unlikely to be our last.

Oct 23rd, 2020

We booked Dinner, Bed and Breakfast and got a very reasonable rate, this review is however based purely on the service and quality we experienced at the hotel. We arrived early to make the most of our day, we only wanted to get the car parked in the hotel car park and get out and about however there was a room ready and we were checked in early by the extremely friendly, helpful and efficient staff. The car park charge was £15 for 24 hours which we were happy with in a town where parking is never easy, it was only a very short walk from the hotel. The hotel location is perfect, right by the lake and in the centre of town. The hotel is far from being a new building and rather than looking dated as some have said it shows the kind of character we look for in an older building. The bedroom was spotless and well appointed, nothing to complain about there either. Now on to the food and drink, we have to agree that the bar prices are a little high but if that helps keep the hotel going through these tough times and protects the jobs of the excellent staff (That's every one of them that we encountered) then we don't mind paying those prices. The food, we had no real idea what to expect, hotel food varies so much we were just hoping for decent tasty food, we rarely dare to hope for exceptional food as it so often just falls way short. However, had we expected exceptionally good food we would not have been disappointed, in fact our expectations would have been exceeded on this occasion. The dinner was truly excellent in every respect, the chef(s) are really very good, the people serving us were also excellent and a credit to the hotel. Our room was comfortable and quiet so nothing to interfere with a good nights sleep. Breakfast, we do not eat a lot in the mornings so along with fruit juice and excellent tea (me) and coffee (Mrs me) we had a selection of items from the full cooked breakfast, we both had different items and inevitably when we do this one of the breakfasts will come back incorrect, not this time, absolutely perfect. The quality the ingredients was also perfect and just one comment on the cooking "Perfect poached egg" everything was excellent. Finally checkout, quick, painless and efficient and when we were asked if we had enjoyed our stay it was asked genuinely, not just following a script. Will we return, absolutely we will and hopefully for two or more nights next time. Thank you to all the hotel staff and see you next year. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Ignore bad reviews, super location

Oct 22nd, 2020

Positives; staff were super, everyone was very helpful and friendly. I’m not sure why people are putting bad reviews about the staff, we found them all to be very polite. They took our bags to the room and helped us with the car park. The food is good and the location of the hotel is superb so you can leave your car for a few days and explore the area. Lovely view of the lake from the hotel room, we did not shut the curtains once. Room was clean and warm. Negatives; bar was empty due to sky high prices, driving all the guests to the myriad of local bars. Two ordinary drinks £15 is too much and has priced them out of the market. Shame, bar had some lovely areas with superb views. Also unable to book spa - even in advance, so had paid for a spa break and never got into a spa. This was due to leisure club members taking all the booked slots as I found out when I checked out. We would return, but only after COVID so we could have some spa time. Don’t listen to the bad reviews, the location is why you pay a premium and we had a very enjoyable stay. In particular the lovely waiting staff at dinner and breakfast. Thank you for making us feel so welcome! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
