Michelin-starred on-site restaurant
No televisions in guest rooms
Originally built in 1881, Madrona Manor was renovated in 1981 and, in 1987, earned a spot on the National Register of Historic Places. It is located in the hills of Sonoma County, California, overlooking Dry Creek Valley, just 16 miles north of Santa Rosa. Rooms are appointed with Lather toiletries, antique furniture, pillow-top mattresses and terry cloth robes. Some rooms and suites feature fireplaces and large balconies or decks. There is also a complimentary buffet breakfast every morning and free Wi-Fi access, though in order to spark romance, the property has no televisions. A big draw for guests is the Michelin-starred restaurant, which recent guests said lives up to its superb reputation. Engaged couples should also take note of this property, as its 8 acres of landscaped gardens make it a popular destination for weddings.

Critic Reviews

This Victorian mansion dating from 1881 is surrounded by 8 acres of wooded and landscaped grounds; rooms in the three-story mansion, the carriage house, and the three separate cottages are gloriously ornate, with mirrors in gilt frames and paintings covering every wall.

Since Madrona Manor keeps gardens, chef Jesse Mallgren is able to change the menu up to three times a week in the on-site restaurant. Dishes might include a 'smooth' scallop and pork belly dish or 'meaty' California guinea fowl.

Guest Rooms

Guest rooms and suites at Madrona Manor are spread throughout the original mansion, the restored school house, the carriage house and two private cottages. All of the rooms in the three-story mansion feature king beds and fireplaces and many feature the home’s original antique furnishings. Also built in 1881, the carriage house offers eight guest rooms and one suite, and the 1920s schoolhouse features two spacious suites with Jacuzzi tubs for two, fireplaces and private decks. The private Garden Cottage is also a favorite for romantic getaways, featuring a fireplace, private deck and slipper tub. The two Meadow Wood suites are the only rooms that do not feature the Victorian period theme, instead they offer an Asian decor. All accommodations offer complimentary Wi-Fi and include a generous buffet breakfast.

Madrona Manor is a dining destination, boasting a Michelin-ranked restaurant helmed by chef Jesse Mallgren. Mallgren’s contemporary French fare is inspired by the seasonal offerings gathered from the estate’s extensive organic vegetable gardens, orchards and greenhouse, and is served in romantic, candle-lit dining rooms. Restaurant critics rave about Mallgren’s foie gras terrine, while previous diners praise the Bulgarian osetra caviar and the Madrona Manor cheese course for the amount of flavor they pack into tiny bites. An award-winning wine list and garden-inspired cocktails are offered at both the restaurant and lounge. All guests receive a complimentary buffet breakfast daily.
