Great hotel, wonderful location

Apr 17th, 2019

My second visit. We stayed one night at this lovely small hotel on Malibu beach. We had a room with view of Malibu Pier, which was lovely. Room is large, very well equipped and very bright. Service was excellent. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

NOT REALLY AN INN, MORE LIKE A MOTEL... AND DON'T BRING YOUR PET

Apr 8th, 2019

We sat outside on the patio with some friends and our dog. Our dog looked a little thirsty, so we asked our waiter for some water. He refused, and said our dog wasn't allowed to drink any water, that we would have to take him outside. Weird, but fine. We weren't attended to by the waiter for the rest of the evening. When we wanted to order our dinner and another glass of wine, we had to ask the manager. They never returned to check on us or see if we wanted anything else. It was clear that having a dog (who was quietly sleeping under the table) was something they did not want at their establishment. I had no idea the Malibu Inn was so unfriendly to pets. Things turned ugly when the waiter stepped on my dogs tail. Although my dog was under the table, it is entirely possible that his tail was sticking out, and I am sure it was an accident. The issue at hand is that the blood-curdling yelp that echoed throughout Malibu, didn't faze the waiter. Not only did he not move his foot to release my dog from the agonizing pain, but he looked down at my dog and walked away with no apology. Tables around us were in shock. I spoke to the manager named Joe (out of earshot of other guests) to tell him what had happened... not only about the dog, but about our overall experience. He couldn't have been more dismissive, rude, and highly inappropriate. Look, I understand that accidents happen. I also understand that working at a restaurant is challenging. But if you don't like your job, don't be there. If you don't like customers who are polite, don't work in the service industry Joe. I can't express to you the belittlement and embarrassment that I faced at the Malibu Inn today. It is completely unacceptable and a very serious issue. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Hotel on the beach at Malibu Carbon beach

Mar 29th, 2019

Very cosy and roomy suite (we got a free upgrade) with sofa and table/chairs on the sea facing balcony. The hotel is really on the beach where you have a direct access to it + to the Carbon Beach pier. Staff friendly, efficient valet parking. However, the bathroom a bit on the small side but the rest of the room compensate for it. The few rooms not facing the sea side might be more noisy as the hotel is located on the main highway. Located a bit away from Malibu or LA, so you will need the car, but perfect if you are looking for a quiet place. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Expertly Managed Beach Front Tranquil Retreat

Mar 19th, 2019

We arrived before check in and were greeted by the hotel manager, front desk assistant and valet staff. We could tell instantly that the hotel was staffed with professionals. We have been to many beautiful properties and one thing we notice is how the quality of staff can make or break a hotel visit. Since our room wasn't ready we went to the beach front patio for lunch. The food and service has to be one of the best beachfront restaurants in the area. Lobster sandwich with truffle fries on the sunny deck with waves crashing nearby was the perfect start to our Spring Break. After our leisurely lunch we checked on the rooms and were told that they still weren't ready and by now it was approaching 4 pm. One of our two rooms opened up around 4 pm, but the other wasn't free until a bit past 4 pm. This is our second time at this hotel and I recall a similar check in issue so if you are the type of persons who likes to check in early, don't plan on it at this hotel. The downside of waiting wasn't terrible for us because the weather was gorgeous and we enjoyed sitting out on the deck while we waited. More importantly management and front desk personnel knew our situation and kept us informed of the process, stopping by to give us an update. At one point they offered to buy us a drink while we waited. We could have walked along the beach or sat in beach front chairs while we waited or walked to the nearly shopping area, Malibu Country Mart. The rooms are modern but still cosy, with wood floors (which are friendly to allergy sufferers) and a comfortable bed with noticeability high quality linens. Our Oceanview suite had a deck with chaise and chairs. The proximity to the beach meant that we could hear the sound of the waves crashing on shore even with the sliding glass windows closed. The rooms were very clean, and perhaps it was the high standard of cleanliness that caused the wait at check in. The hotel is right off Hwy 1 and the distance between the rooms, the road and the beach is not very far, but we did not hear traffic noise from our first floor room. The check in desk is in a separate building from the hotel and inside is a very large jar of free freshly baked chocolate cookies and a large variety of magazine for purchase. This is a hotel, as someone noted, "Low Key Chic" with the an exceptional staff, as good if not better than the Montage or Four Seasons. We booked with Richie at What a Hotel which I discovered years ago in a TripAdvisor review (and NYT article). Seriously, you want to contact them for your next vacation reservation. For our stay at this and other hotels we get good rates, sometimes upgrades, and in the Case of Malibu Beach Inn, a breakfast credit for 2 each morning and amenities to make our stay extra special. Low key chic

Mar 15th, 2019

Decided to stay outside of Santa Monica while visiting family. This boutique luxury hotel of the world met all expectations. Reasonably priced with an amazing low key relaxed atmosphere and vibe. If you need it they’ll get it to if you don’t want it they’ll accommodate. Charge you car? We arrived late and they made sure to charge our car overnight. When check out time arrived they charged us overnight without even having to ask.... hey Tesla drivers! Many perks I was not aware of until checkout. Not really being there for a beach vacation missed a lot of their touches. It did serve well to have nearby family and out of town guests. They loved the restaurant! On the beach reasonably priced and more than accommodating. Having stayed st many luxury hotels of the world they m azure up and keep it st the level you want. Don’t be intimidated. Relaxed with sandy feet a fantastic Bloody Mary breakfast after a stroll on the beach. Yes yes and yes TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
