Service is outstanding.

I was in town for business and stayed at this property. The hotel staff definitely focuses on the personal touches and it shows. From my arrival in the loyalty line, to attentive bell hops, to a concierge that secured dinner reservations - it was all wonderful. Views are great. Beds are comfortable. Service is outstanding. This is a really lovely hotel which we usually stay at but right now it is closed because of the pandemic. This is so sad for us as we like the lounge and the rooms. There was no date on the window for opening but I hope it is very soon. I hope all the staff are safe. I did check web site and no date for reopening was given. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

A Bit of a Zoo

Mar 14th, 2020

Even with coronavirus bubbling away in the news the Marriott Marquis was hopping in early March. No self isolation here. As a platinum Bonvoy member I would normally receive an upgrade but not here which I can only attribute to the hotel being close to full or perhaps overwhelmed by other upper tier members. That aside this hotel just didn't do it for me in many ways. On the plus side it is conveniently joined to the conference center by a series of underground walkways and also close to the Mt Vernon metro station which is on the direct line from National airport. The room was a standard size with the usual queen bed and excellent mattress and linen. Marriott always excels here. The wifi was easy to use and strong and stable and the A/C was easy to control. The bathroom was a good size with a big walk in shower. The rooms had the usual amenities including a coffee maker that comes with everything single use which is unacceptable in this day and age. Why have disposable cups and plastic everything? If it is possible to provide proper glasses then it should also possible to provide proper cups and spoons. My main complaints concern the "M Lounge" and the sound proofing. I arrived on a Friday evening to find that the lounge is virtually non-functional on Friday and Saturday nights with no real food and pay-as-you-go drinks including basic beer and wine. Nothing here to reward a member. As I noted earlier the hotel was hopping and if the lack of an upgrade is any indicator, full of premium members - so why no lounge amenities? And then there is the soundproofing or lack thereof. There was lots of noise from the hall and surrounding rooms late at night and early in the morning that was very, very loud in my room. Checkout on Sunday was slow with a line and many guests requiring some sort of services that involved associates disappearing into a back room for extended periods. I am not by nature a patient person and hanging about in a crowded lobby did not improve my already jaded opinion of the hotel. Overall, this hotel is just adequate and probably not a first choice in Washington except for convention center or hotel meeting attendees. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Don't stay in this hotel while there is a volley ball convention

Mar 11th, 2020

We stay in Marriott brand because the standard of their room, bed and cleanliness, in addition to lounge access. What set one aside is their service and their food in the lounge. This hotel is right by the convention center and able to walk to some of the DC attractions. Lobby is grant. Our first night, we arrived late for dessert in the lounge. It was loud, dirty dinner dishes were all over. There was no soda, juice beverage but water bottles and the bar was open with a bartender. We stayed a week and realized since there was a volley ball convention, the items served in the lounge were different. Unlike other Marriott, staff do not clean off your table, although there are a few of them standing around. Items of food are in low quality. Except for two, most of the staff are not friendly in this lounge. The two- level gym is awesome. It has high quality equipment, even better than a commercial gym with a hefty membership fee. Apple, fresh towels and water bottle were plentiful, along with multi-TV. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
