Solid Option on Palm Beach

Mar 6th, 2020

Just checked out of a week at the Ocean Club. Our first time to Aruba (we pick a different island each year and are well-travelled). I give this resort a solid 4 stars. Pros/cons below: Pros: friendly staff (albeit on island time haha), beautiful and kept grounds, great renovated room (glad Marriott updates about every 10 years, and the updated rooms are great), lots of dining options between the three sister resorts, loved having a kitchen with grocery stores nearby to not have to go out every meal, beach is beautiful and walkable/runnable, lots of great activities planned by the staff for daily fun for all ages and interests. Great pool area; better I thought than the other Surf Club or Marriott resort, and way more chill and less crowded. Cons: by far the biggest con in my opinion is the palapa chaos... ugh. Got down at 6:45am to stand in line for the “day-of” rental options for $10; two other people in line so I stand behind them... five minutes to 7:00 a whole bunch of timeshare owners (old, white guys with beer guts... haha) walk up and ask when I got there. I tell them and they laugh and point, “oh, you’re way back there...take a number” By this time, 40 people had formed a line and I somehow end up at the back of it. Clearly they had some unwritten rule that they could sit in the restaurant until five minutes before and somehow “save their place in line.” Honestly in this day-and-age Marriott has many options to change their policy — a mobile registration option perhaps through their app, or at least a good ol’ fashioned take a number system. We ended up with a fine palapa after an hour in line, but that’s not really the point — I didn’t appreciate the apparent unwritten rules/process and mockery by these people, let alone there should be much easier ways to go about things. Secondary cons include the room not being ready until 1.5 hours after check in time (1 hour after originally promised), and no apparent recycling, at least that is visible, which made me feel badly (ironically, they use paper straws but then plastic cups lol). Other random tips: Go to Tres Trapes (spelling?) (aka Three Steps) just to the north of the high rises and snorkel to see green sea turtles and huge red cushion star fish, and swim north to Boca Catalina (maybe 30-50 yards from shore) to see a wonderful underwater world. No need for a snorkel boat — all the boats stop there anyway, and it was wonderful to snorkel alone with the turtles for a while without a whole heap of people! Take watershoes - many of the reef areas and natural pools hurt our feet climbing along the lava rock. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Beautiful grounds, great renovated rooms!

Feb 19th, 2020

Anyone who writes a poor review of this place is incapable of being happy. We had an amazing 5 day stay in a newly renovated 2 bedroom villa on the 6th floor. All of our interactions with the front desk, housekeeping and the pool staff were excellent. Food poolside was excellent. The pool was quite busy this week as it’s school vacation week, but there were no problems getting a seat of your choice if you’re down by 9am. Minor complaint: - there was a lot of seaweed washing up on the beach. Other resorts removed it promptly, but we only saw it being cleaned in front of the Marriotts once. That should have been addressed. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Marriott Aruba Resort beach side restaurant Waves

Feb 11th, 2020

The Marriott Aruba Resort beach side restaurant Waves has everything you might desire in a vacation restaurant: The ocean, the sand, great healthy food, wine and Gabriel Aimee. Our waiter Gabriel was knowledgeable, multi lingual, pleasant, cheerful and overall a delight. Gabriel remembered what we liked to eat, suggested what was extra fresh and what we drank. You may have never had the pleasure of what a difference having a great wait staff makes to a lunch . . . Enjoy lunch at Waves and you will. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Paradise

Feb 9th, 2020

If you are not happy with the Ocean Cub in Aruba, you are not capable of being happy. Imagine perfect weather all the time with a refreshing balmy breeze to watch the ocean from your beach lounge under a palapa. Warning: The biggest decision of the day is where you choose to dine among the many fabulous restaurants scatered throughout the island. All the villas at the Ocean Club have been completely renovated or in the process of being renovated. The staff treat you like family and make your stay as pleasant as possible.
