Lovely historic inn

Mar 22nd, 2019

This is a charming, well cared for and cozy historic inn to stay in while in Cambridge. Only a 15 minute walk to Harvard Square. The included breakfast was delicious, the bed was perfect, the water pressure in the shower was excellent! Also the tea and cookies upon our arrival were lovely. This is exactly what we were hoping for. Highly recommend it. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

February at Mary Prentiss

Feb 17th, 2019

Nostalgia galore! This historic bed and breakfast stay experience embodies everything you would expect for a classical bed and breakfast stay. The room accommodation featured an incredible picturesque window and the shower pressure and temperature was worthy of noting! The morning called us down a winding spiral staircase following trail to culinary perfection with the air punctuated with hints of wood burning in the fireplace. We sat sipping hot butter pecan coffee encapsulated in the sun drenched dining room with but a visual reminder of the February winter chill through the window casings surrounding us. See you next year! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

A Terrific Bed and Breakfast!

Oct 31st, 2018

We lucked out on our visit to Boston! The Mary Prentiss Inn had wonderful accommodations, terrific breakfasts and was within walking distance to the Harvard campus and the public transportation took us to the Freedom Trail and downtown Boston. We didn't need to use a car! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great Inn but Avoid the Bungalows

Oct 20th, 2018

This inn is beautiful. Truly. The décor, the architecture, the aromas of fresh baked goods all add up to a great first impression. We stayed in one of the private bungalows. They’re out back and set off from most of the hotel. There’s easy access to the subterranean parking area and a short walk across a courtyard to the main hotel and other common areas. Once we got inside the room, though, things were a little weird. The room was small and did not hold the amount or size of furniture crammed into it. There was a chair blocking the closet. The bed was inches from the fireplace. There was a huge chest of drawers at an angle in one corner that took up most of that space. The bathroom and shower were fine, but the tub had its own room and it struck us funny that many of the pictures above it were cockeyed as was one of the sconces. None of this is a big deal but those of us who travel sometimes equate these sorts of minor missteps with how much care is put into the rest of the inn. The big bad thing I did find was the fire extinguisher hook held no fire extinguisher. After looking around I found it hidden behind the giant, out-of-place chest of drawers. Unless I moved that bulky piece of furniture, there was no way I could possibly get to the fire extinguisher (see picture). We didn’t hate the room, but it felt awkward which took away some of the peaceful ambiance we were looking for in staying in a bungalow away from the main hotel. I mentioned some of these things to one of the staff and they said it’s the first they’d heard of any complaints. So maybe we’re picky, but we both felt the same thing so who knows? The next morning the breakfast wasn’t bad. We had to sign up for it the night before, which I thought was smart. I had the full breakfast of peach pancakes with bacon and it was tasty, but only lukewarm. My wife didn’t have the full breakfast and stuck with healthier choices. She didn’t enjoy hers as much as I did mine, but I did have bacon, you know. The inn is old and striking. The history is fascinating. The staff is great. We checked out early and asked if we could leave our car there while we trekked into Boston by rail. They were fine with that. So despite the room size and fire extinguisher misplacement, I’d stay there again, just in a different room. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Book early to avoid disappointment

Oct 20th, 2018

This was our third stay at the Mary Prentiss Inn The two previous times we had lovely room off of the patio area and on the second floor. This time because we had left it late to book we had a room behind the reception area. It was not very nice and was very noisy. Such a shame as we really love this place and will return again. Just next time we’ll book early! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
