Room with a view

Jan 14th, 2020

Spotlessly clean and spacious room, with a view of Notre Dame, large comfy bed, toiletries in the bathroom, great shower, separate toilet no hand basin ( a guess that must be a French thing as we have stayed in a hotel in Paris which was the same). The panoramic breakfast room on the 7th floor has a fantastic view over the river and when the weather is warm you are able to take your delicious breakfast outside. There is plenty of choice, once you have found it, maybe the staff could have pointed out where everything was. Located very near the river, within walking distance of restaurants, bars and small specialist shops in the delightful Chartrons district of Bordeaux, also close enough to the tram stop if you don't want to walk. There is an underground secure car park nearby which is quite expensive but worth it for peace of mind. I was a bit worried by some of the reviews about this hotel but I would definitely stay there again TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Below average

Jan 6th, 2020

We often stay at Accor hotels of different categories. We know what to expect. This Mercure was well below average. The location is ok. By the river and by a tram stop. And just minutes from cozy Chartrons centre. Staff was very friendly. However. The room smelled bad (bathroom plumbing). The sheets smelled a bit musty and the heavy chloride laundry cleaner couldn’t camouflage that. The towels smelled very strongly of chloride too. The beds were ok. Plenty of sockets. On two days cleaning staff completely ignored the do not disturb sign and actually opened the door. Breakfast was nothing special but was adequate. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Cold room

Nov 16th, 2019

Bordeaux might be quite hot most time of the year but we had less than 10 degrees. Unfortunately the heating in the hotel did not work and the staff did not manage to improve the situation. So we had to take lots of hot showers ... TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great location, otherwise average

Oct 16th, 2019

We had four nights here over a weekend, a return visit. The location is terrific - easy walking to the main city centre areas, and tram stop 100metres away for destinations further afield. Parking (public) is adjacent, but very expensive. Breakfast is excellent, served on the top floor with splendid views across the river and city. Very good selection, although the scrambled eggs could be more creamy (our key test of hotel breakfasts), and they failed the warm plate test - why do people offer warm food on cold plates? Our room was spacious, quiet and clean, but without character and in need of a little care. The hospitality tray was anything but hospitable - poor selection, very meagre supplies, cheap paper cups - creates a very mean impression. We complain about this every time, but they take no notice. Now we bring our own coffee and mugs. Room service was disappointing. They didn't answer the phone so we had to go down to Reception to order. The food came 20 minutes late - they had ample time and only had to heat up pre-prepared pots - after a call to reception. Then the food was only luke-warm. All the staff we encountered were friendly, professioanl and went out of their way to make us well looked after (apart from room service). We will come again because of the location, and basically it's a good hotel. It would not take much for them to earn five blobs. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Could have been an Ibis

Oct 3rd, 2019

The hotel was clean and modern. Checkin went well and the room was ready at 1200. The hotel was easy to find and close to the quay where we were joining a riverboat cruise the next day. However, we could have been staying in an Ibis. Admittedly probably an Ibis Styles but I would have expected a little more from Mercure brand. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
