Terrible hotel - worst I have stayed at in years

I stayed at the Mercure on a business trip recently. I did not book it but it was booked for me by a conference organiser. The issued I had with this stay are: 1. The first room I was given was a weird twin room with very noise air conditioning. I asked to move and was moved. 2. The double rooms are not queen or king but standard doubles. 3. The lighting is insufficient. 4. The paint on the doors is peeling. 5. The hangers are the security hangers which are more annoying than anything else and you hardly see them any more 6. The bedside clock had a dock for iPhone 3 ... no USB charger - no use to anyone any more 7. The coffee was instant only. 8. The tea bags were few and unvaried. 9. The internet is not included. 10. I asked if breakfast was included and was told by the duty manager it was - at breakfast was told it wasn't - expensive and terrible breakfast in any event 11. Asked for soy milk on cereal which was not available. Staff had to get it from barista area and provided to me in a take away polystyrene coffee cup to pour myself. Really... no milk jug available. 12. Air con in new room noisy on any setting other than low. 13. No idea about plastic minimisation - all bathroom and restaurant items wrapped in use once non-reclyclable plastic packaging - disgusting. 14. Conference facilities basic and tired. The whole experience has been from bad to worse. They asked me how my stay was when I logged in via internet on first night and I described the above experience - that was yesterday - they asked if I could provide details so someone could contact me - they haven't. What a joke. I won't stay here again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

A very comfortable stay

This is a good, sound hotel in excellent condition and well located for access to the city and other precincts like South Bank. My room on the 11 floor looked ot over the Brisbane River, was spacious and well set up for leisure and work. Everything worked - window blinds, tv, bar fridge, taps, aircon - which is just great. My stay was made all the better because of friendly and helpful staff who went out of their way to be supportive. Meals in the restaurant were high standard and reasonably priced with a good wine list. All in all it was a very comfortable stay one which I really couldnt fault. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Excellent customer service

Mercure, North Quay is a good hotel...great locality. Especially impressed with the conference facilities. They are very hard to beat in Brisbane. Staff and customer service exceptional. Will stay again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Not 4.5 stars. A run down hotel

I usually stay at Accor Hotels Sebel and Ibis Styles when I stay in Brisbane City. Both have been great. This time I picked Mercure due to its proximity to a location I had to attend for work. I was greatly disappointed. Room service is overpriced at $30 for butter chicken and upwards from there for main meals. My mum ate lunch in the restaurant and said it was of poor quality. They did not have lactose free milk so we had to go and buy milk. We chose to eat breakfasts at the Steamboat cafe next door which didn’t disappoint. We recommend it. Our pillows were not comfortable and the room was run down. Being on the river side we got the western sun beating in on the windows which made the room hot - even with the aircon at 17 degrees. The shower layout was such that the water sprayed towards the toilet and toilet rolls. Also, there wasn’t enough room to hang both towels to re-use because doing so would have meant hanging them directly beside the toilet and they would have been in the way. Needs to be refurbished. Our fridge smelled of garlic. This was a 3star experience overall. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Good location and Room

Found the location of the hotel was great for our needs the room was clean and a good size Unfortunately that’s where it ends, the breakfast was average but there was no hot water to make a cup of tea so I went to the coffee machine it was also playing up. It appeared that the breakfast staff on the day were short in numbers so a lot of customers were finding it quite difficult in response to issues I would think twice before returning again TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
