Utterly Unremarkable

Feb 10th, 2020

There is truly nothing special about this property. Odd location. Dingy rooms with filthy upholstery. Decent breakfast all things considered. While here, one has a strong desire to get out of their room. There is nothing inviting about the space. This is the type of hotel you stay at just to sleep and then check out to go someplace so much better. I find it impossible to believe that anyone would ever stay here on purpose - if you're here, there's a conference or some other event you've been forced to attend. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

A Pleasant Stay

Feb 2nd, 2020

I recently stayed at this hotel for a conference. The only (slightly) negative was the location. The hotel is in a very suburban neighborhood with a mall just a few blocks away. It is quite a ways from the beach. But it is on the Metrorail line, which was great fro getting to downtown or the airport. The hotel itself was nice--I was in recently remodeled room which was spotless and very quiet and comfortable. The wifi worked well in the room. The staff was friendly, both at the front desk and in the bar. Ultimately, the hotel was everything I expect from a Marriott. I would definitely stay here again if I am in this area. Not what I expected

Jan 18th, 2020

When my family and I arrived at the hotel;the room that we reserved(new and remodeled) wasn't ready and then when we checked again they gave us another room(old and moldy smelling) because they gave ours to another guest. Hello how can you give the same room to different guests; that's unethical. This was my first and last time at this poor quality and unprofessional hotel. Also, at the time of leaving; I ask for my car at the valet parking station to put away my luggage and they couldn't find my car keys. At the end after I was frustrated and mad; the keys to my car was given to a guy who came from another company to help the valet crew from this hotel and they didn't even apologize for their error. Slow in some areas

Dec 21st, 2019

This was my first visit to this hotel , first impression was of a clean modern property where the check was very good and the room was up to the usual high Marriott standard . I was disappointed with the poor level of service in the bar , although the staff were friendly it took too long to get food , the bar was not even busy. I was seated at a table but I had to go to the bar to remind the staff about my food . When we checked out this was also slow with just two people at the front desk . Location wise , there is a Publix supermarket around the corner and a large mall nearby . Bed was very comfortable and room was well equipped including a fridge . I am not sure if I would use the bar next time I stay there . TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Do not stay here if you have a car!

Dec 18th, 2019

The hotel charges an additional $25/night for valet parking and they do not offer a self-parking option. This is rather odd, because the garage for the MetroRail station opens directly into the hotel in the back; and they have their own parking accessible on the front. I much prefer self-parking (having once been given someone else's rental car) and rather resent that I cannot even pay for self-parking. On Saturday night, we waited in the car for 20 minutes (from 8:20 pm to after 8:40 pm) to park using the valet, most of the time in the middle of the street in front waiting to enter the hotel property. Apparently, the valet backs up at times and you are just out-of-luck. Definitely not a first class experience. Definitely not something that I want to pay for. (In fairness they subtracted one night of valet parking at my insistence when we checked out.) The best part of the hotel is the location. You are in easy walking distance of the MetroRail, a handful of restaurants, coffee shops, and Publix -- and just a short walk away from Dadeland. I would recommend Bricks and Shorty's for dinner. El Riconcito Cubano for breakfast and Pasion del Cielo (a Mexican coffee chain) for coffee. There are other options around as well. You can buys lots of water for the $4 that they charge for water in the room. Tap water in South Florida is safe, but heavily chlorinated, so it won't be to everyone's taste. The room was on the small side. Outlets are not convenient. The outlet on the desk did not work. So maintenance brought up two extension cords -- one for the desk and one to plug something in next to the bed. The outlets were just not conveniently located and none of that modern "working outlet in a lamp"-type furniture. (The fact that the maintenance person did not speak English is something that I expect as a native Miamian; I realize that it could be off-putting to some visitors.) The Marriott is one of the tallest buildings for miles around, so most of the rooms are on higher floors in a generally low-rise area . This affords views in all directions, although a handful of nearby buildings may seem a bit close for comfort, depending on your location. On Saturday night, we could hear music (with shut windows) from a party in the pool area. TV drowned it out and it ended before midnight. The hot water was hot. The wifi worked. The water pressure was fine. We did not eat at the hotel restaurant. If you are coming for a function at the hotel, this is a reasonable place to stay. If you have no need for a car, this is a more reasonable place to stay. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
