Weekend away

Feb 17th, 2020

This was our 2nd visit to Middlethorpe Hall (the first was in June 2019 but that was for only one night on our way up to Scotland). The whole experience was superb and the experience of luxury never wavered throughout our 3 night stay. The food is indescribable - it is so good from the canapes pre-dinner in the drawing room, to the sorbet to the mains to the puddings to the cheese and biscuits, and not forgetting the vast array of alcoholic beverages with the recommendations on the menus. We will definitely be back, next time in the Spring. Thank you to all at Middlethroe Hall (and I mean all the staff both front of house and behind the scenes) for making our visits so relaxing and luxurious. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

17th C elegance and style; 21st C luxury.

Feb 7th, 2020

I confess: I get to stay here at a reduced rate as one of the benefits of membership of the spa. And I love that benefit. The hotel interior is superb- wonderfully restored mainly late 17th C Baroque. Beautifully proportioned exterior and sumptuously wood panelled rooms or equally exquisite later lounges (later additions as ball rooms without wood panelling) - and a fine wooden staircase. Superb gardens maintained as is the house by the National Trust. There are rooms in the house itself - alas I have never stayed in one; others are in the old stable block and there are even more a few metres away. All are period or probably late 19th C. The rooms I have been in on the courtyard are very comfortable. Every comfort (ok I prefer kettles and I could not get the pod machine to deliver tea but that is my incompetence - can I have a lesson?) including gorgeous bathrobes. A rather large bed and plenty of storage space. Be aware that it can be up to 40 metres to your room but porters are very good and there are umbrellas. The spa is included - a swimming pool and very small gym. That sits across the road in the old gardeners' cottages. Look out for the deals that they offer - that can make a stay here very affordable and you will not be disappointed. I love this place. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

6 star Gourmet taster dinner

Feb 3rd, 2020

Following our first stay here, just a few weeks earlier, for the 4 day Christmas House Party, in January we decided to try the Gourmet taster dinner and added a discounted overnight stay. We arrived in the afternoon and were met at the door by a porter who took our cases. After booking in, we were shown to our room on the second floor of the main house - its was delightful, with a splendid view over the rear gardens. It had everyone you could possibly want, certainly for an overnight stay, but also for much longer. We went to the drawing room for a light tea, before getting ready for dinner. Middlethorpe has an advised dress code for its main meals, which we thoroughly appreciate. We were served a 6 course dinner, all freshly prepared and beautifully presented, with a selection of 5 wines to match the food. The rating for the chef and his team are well deserved. The front of house staff explained every course, both food and wine, and the whole experience over a leisurely 21/2 hours was a real gastronomic pleasure. Breakfast, included in the overnight package, was a full Yorkshire breakfast although a good selection of other options were available and freshly cooked for you. The standard of service at this hotel is one of the best we've had for many years, and we will be returning. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Elegant & relaxing

Jan 26th, 2020

A historic residence, Middlethorpe is an elegant hideaway. We booked two rooms, one family room and a single room, both beautifully furnished. With my nephew and my wife, we enjoyed a spectacular dinner in the restaurant, after an evening cocktail service. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

My birthday treat with my wife & friends

Jan 24th, 2020

We stayed 2 nights to celebrate mine & my friends 70th birthdays. Its a great place with an excellant restaurant, very large gardens & a spa. Our rooms were very nice, oldie worldy as fits the buildings, set in the courtyard next to the main house. Very nice food & drinks in the restaurant. Tried the tasting menu which was very tasty & well presented. Very nice staff who were always there to helpif needed. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
