A wonderful stay!

Jul 16th, 2019

We stayed for 6 nights earlier this month. It was a last-minute booking and we made a great decision! Our room in the main house was characterful with large windows. The bed was comfortable and housekeeping was kept to a very high standard. This hotel is very convenient to central York (a short bus ride away). it's nice to visit the city and then return to the peace and quiet of Middlethorpe Hall. We were well placed to visit North Yorkshire locations including Castle Howard and Whitby on the coast. The restaurant offerings were well presented with high quality ingredients and cooked to a good standard. The breakfast cooked to order was delicious with prompt and friendly service. I'd say the Spa is functional rather than luxurious although the friendly and helpful therapists made it welcoming. All staff provided genuine hospitality and we would definitely return to Middlethorpe. Mark receives a special mention as he was especially helpful in offering tips on local travel and sights which made our stay perfect! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

One night stay

Jul 12th, 2019

My wife and I visited Middlethorpe for a luxury over night stay making full use of the spa over the 2 days, the fine dinning dinner and lovely house with beautiful grounds. All were exceptional. Also walked round The York Races and visited Goddards House and Gardens also in walking. Thank you for a lovely stay TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Excellent as always

We have been welcomed at Middlethorpe Hall for several years now and it always feels like coming to stay with friends. Nothing is too much trouble for the amazing staff, many of whom have been here for years. We are already planning to return later this year. The location is wonderful, stunning gardens and lovely walks down to the lake - hard to believe that York city centre is just a few minutes away. We usually stay here in the winter but to see the gardens in full bloom in summer was just spectacular. The food is imaginative and beautifully presented and the rooms are cosy and extremely comfortable. What more can I say - we just love it! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Step back in time and be treated like royalty

We arrived to find we had been upgraded to a luxurious suite in the converted stable block. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. The idea is that you are treated as guests would have been back in the day. This results in five star service. The restaurant serves amazing food. I am dairy intolerant so there was a limit to dishes but the chef did a lovely job of adapting one of the dishes for me. If you can give them prior knowledge of your allergies they can try and cater for you. I was able to get soya milk for my coffee and they made me soya hot chocolate one night. Delicious. Hotel was opposite a walking and cycling path that takes you into York past the racing course and along the river 2miles, or you can catch a bus just by the path opposite the hall. Or let the staff get you a taxi. Would definitely stay here again. Fabulous location, wonderful staff and clean and elegant rooms in keeping with the period property. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

As good as ever

Lunch with friends once more at Middlethorpe. An annual summer event for us. Three of us had three courses and one just two. Service was by a very efficient and friendly Parisian waiter. Two started with pea mousse, Yorkshire fettle ( cheese ) and truffle mascarpone, one with haddock veloute and I had wood pigeon with baby beetroot, a black pudding ball and celeriac. Two followed with pollock with lovage, keta and samphire, one had the lamb and I had pork with butternut squash, chorizo and chard. For desert I had the rhubarb delice which included a custard macaron and white chocolate. The other two had various selections of ice creams and sorbets All accompanied by a fine prosecco and finished with various coffees. All in all, and as we have come to expect, a splendid lunch. Middlethorpe Hall is strongly recommended.. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
