NOT 5 Star

This hotel was chosen by a large international tour company on our 1st & 17th night. After travelling 30 hrs from Australia all I wanted was to fall into bed. The 1st room was tiny, on the 2nd floor & just got in the doorway when I realised I'd been given the 'Solo traveller' room, I complained and was given an 'upgrade' and this is it. The furniture is so old and scratched your local charity store would reject it, curtains hanging off the track, bins without liners, door frames falling apart so badly the chain lock wouldn't connect, cracked ceilings. Old world charm this isn't, it's just old. On returning on the 17th day of the tour I was given a room on the 7th floor facing the very busy main road intersection, room noise is incredible as the wind was bad and it sounded like a freight train coming through the room. After complaining, once again, I was given another room, 616, facing the garden and which ended up being a vast improvement. The Breakfast was great which is why I've given this review 1 Star, will never stay or recommend this hotel. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
We expected better...

We stayed here for 2 nights at the end of our 10 day tour of Spain. This was listed as a 5-star hotel, so we expected it to be nicer than the Melia hotels we had spent several night at in Seville, Barcelona & Granada. We were disappointed in our room. It was very outdated and tired looking. No hot pot in the room to make coffee in the morning and the safe didn't work. We would not stay here again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Decided to spend a night here with my wife and we got a special “romantic” package for one night at a deluxe suite. The staff was friendly and helpful but the room was just plain old and unkempt. My guess is that the last time it was decorated was probably around the 1970. If you want to have a nice getaway I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Began and ended tour at this hotel. Rooms very good , with ahh a coffee machine! Breakfast also enjoyable and eating places close by, got upgraded with free canapés and drinks, (Not alcohol). Easy walking to centre of town, would certainly stay again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Wow, I sure hope the Club level is better....

We just spent four nights at this venue and I really need to share our experience. If you're not in on one of the upper floors, I guess, this is a hospitality time capsule. The location, as mentioned, is convenient for many neighborhoods, and the hotel is located at the Gregorio Maranon metro stop. There are some great restaurants in the neighborhood - I particularly recommend La Gabinoteca, just a couple blocks away. But then... We reserved through booking.com, and let this be a warning. We were placed in a tiny room on the front side of the building, which overlooks one of the busiest streets and most active intersections in town. Avoid any room in the forties - 342, 344, etc. After a completely sleepless night, we complained, and the front desk, no stranger to these requests, moved us to a much better accommodation. The beds are comfortable enough and the bathrooms are spacious, but the decor is decidedly dated and tired. The doors in the room are cracking and peeling at the bottom from the good efforts of the cleaning crew. The grouting in the bathroom, sinks and tubs, are clearly in need of refreshment. The furniture is nicked and worn and the decor is....the best of Bucharest, 1983. The breakfast buffet, at 25/head, is nothing to write home about, and the bar is curious and overpriced, like many. I will complement the hard-working staff. In fairness, I did not visit the spa and I did not see the rooms at the Club level. I spent my time in the basement conference center, a dreary room with low ceilings, uneven lighting, and temperatures that swung widely between the jungles of the Amazon and the steppes of central Siberia. I recommend you spend some time researching alternatives before you book here. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
