Though the 55-story skyscraper was designed to resemble the mysterious monolith in 2001: A Space Odyssey, Kubrick's vision likely didn't include the bland interiors of these 569 guest rooms. Nevertheless, the hotel — reopened in 2003 after a $32 million renovation — has spectacular views of the Statue of Liberty and the East River bridges.

In addition to the memorial, the hotel is also close to Battery Park, the Statue of Liberty and the Stock Exchange.
