Divine relaxation!

Dec 1st, 2019

This hotel is incredible. Every detail has been thought about, and if you can afford it, I wouldn’t look any further if staying on this area of Crete. I can see why others come back again and again! Firstly the location. It’s on a lovely part of the island, and is a quiet and peaceful resort but within walking distance to a little town with restaurants and shops. But what’s amazing is how the hotel has been designed to maximise the feeling that you have your own private beach. There are so many sunbeds that there isn’t the terrible practice of reserving them, which was quite a relief to me! Food: there are several little restaurants (or you can order snacks to your sunbed with an app!). Food isn’t cheap but it is delicious. Not lots of options for vegetarians but there’s enough to manage. The food is so good that you could eat the same set of dishes a few times over! And breakfast was amazing, just the most fantastic thing to look forward to every morning. Decor: absolutely gorgeous. Modern, yet classic. The art installations are gorgeous! As others have said, what sets this hotel apart is the staff. They are incredible and really can’t do enough for the guests. From parking our rental car, to giving us a lift on the golf buggy, to just being absolutely delightful to talk to, I can’t thank them enough. Also there are a few cats around and I love that they are treated so well by the staff. If you can afford the little villa, definitely take this over a room in the main hotel - it will feel particularly special and the quality of the interiors is brilliant. Two points to note (and both refer to outsourced activities of the hotel). Visiting the spa is a bit of a sales pitch and the charges are significantly higher (about 30% higher) than on the app. Perhaps this has been corrected since my visit. The English lady who runs the watersports centre is unkind and rude. She was uncaring when I got swept out by the wind on my paddle board (despite being relatively experienced), and ended up being rescued by some lovely Germans on a speedboat (!) and when my partner got back to her desk to return the kit before I did, she told him off, rather than asking if I was ok (I was shaking). So sad about this (it was not in keeping with the rest of the personality of the hotel). I accidentally left my key behind at the watersports centre and was too afraid to go back to get to get it (the hotel staff kindly gave us a spare and picked it up from her on their next trip over). All in all I would absolutely go back and stay at Minis beach if I was back at this part of Greece. I simply wouldn’t consider staying anywhere else. It was divine!! Thank you to the hotel staff! Everything dreams are made of

Oct 22nd, 2019

Despite a bad start getting a different room to the one we booked, which was sorted by next day, the staff, food, location and, eventually, the room was the stuff of dreams, from the vast breakfast array to the special experience Cretan dancing over dinner. It is ideally located for Agios Nikolaos. Pricy but perfect and picturesque. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Return Visit Even Better Than Before

Oct 20th, 2019

Our second visit to this lovely hotel for a week of (too much!) good food and total relaxation. From the moment our cases were whisked away to our bungalow while we checked in, we felt thoroughly looked after. Since last year the Bacchus restaurant has been totally revamped, taking up the space of the old Ambrosia restaurant. We were so impressed with the focus on traditional Cretan food. At breakfast the choice of bread alone was outstanding: slow-aged barley, cornflour, carob, sesame, plaited sweet loaves etc., and add to that a fantastic choice of hot and cold items, fresh fruit, yogurt (the best in the world!), honey and other traditional goodies, it was a highlight of our day. The bungalows are also going through a programme of renovation and our superior sea view bungalow with walk in shower - very spacious with an extra large and comfortable bed - was 'industrial chic' in style. Airy and modern but with bedside lights that you couldn't read by and, as others have mentioned, a glass door to the toilet. Air con was adequate, there was a kettle and Nespresso machine (commercial type pods at 2 euros each). Housekeeping was excellent although took place later and later in the day as our week progressed. The sea view bungalows are three tiers back from the sea, so inevitably many of them have their views partially obstructed by closer bungalows and trees. We didn't mind this at all but it's useful to know that for a full sea view you would need a seafront or waterfront one. The gardens are a joy, you can lose yourself wandering around them, taking in the many art installations. This year there's a new one 'Come With The Wind'. Sounds representing each of the eight winds of the Mediterranean are activated by sensors in blocks containing bamboo pipes of differing sizes and set in a circle, so that when you enter the circle the air is suddenly filled with a self-generated wind symphony. Magical! Whether you're a sun worshipper or a shade lover, there were plenty of sunbeds available even though some visitors still insist on 'reserving' them with towels. We were sorry to find the Pure Lounge bar by the water's edge was closed in the evenings and the little kafeneion closed all together. We also thought that 9 euros was a bit steep for two coffees. Much better value was the 'Couples Offer' at the Bacchus restaurant. A wonderful buffet - again featuring Cretan specialities, bottle of wine and water for 60 euros per couple. As before we found the service everywhere was exemplary. This time we were even assigned someone to make sure we were happy with everything. We were! Hopefully we'll be back before too long. Idyllic location and exceptional service

Oct 18th, 2019

We were attracted to this hotel by the waterfront bungalows with direct sea access and were not disappointed with their location. We loved the allocated loungers and being able to swim in the beautiful clear sea from the front of our bungalow. The bungalow itself however, was clean and well-lit but extremely dated - compared to other 5 star hotels this room was the most unimpressive we have stayed in. The furniture was tatty and the shower was something out of the ‘80’s. I think a good shower and comfortable bed are an essential component of a 5 star hotel and as it stands these rooms are no more than low end 4 star. I understand that some other rooms have been refurbished. The service at the hotel was exceptional from reception, restaurant staff and our lovely cleaner, Liz. They sorted out every query we had, quickly and in a friendly manner. The grounds of the hotel are wonderful and the main public rooms have been refurbished to a very high standard. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. We ate in the buffet restaurant for dinner on a couple of occasions and weren’t particularly impressed. There were some excellent restaurants within a few minutes walk of the hotel and if we came again we wouldn’t bother with half board. We would like to go back but would wait until all the rooms have been refurbished. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
