Nothing less than excellent!

My husband and I just spent the past week at Monterey Bay and had the best time! From the friendly woman at check-in (and same one at check-out, which was nice) to the nice staff in the kitchen, to the very helpful housekeeping ladies. We love the layout of the resort, especially the parking deck as it's connected right to the hotel. The indoor pool was great as it was heated during our stay, along with the lazy river and hot tub. The view from the room is obviously amazing! Thank you for a great stay, Monterey Bay! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Not recommended - WAY better options in Myrtle Beach

My family and I spent a month in a suite here. The facility is acceptable overall, but has some issues. We had to move rooms the first week because the bed was so uncomfortable that it gave my husband and myself backaches. Once we moved to a room with a better bed, that improved. There was no compensation/apology or anything for the huge inconvenience of having to move rooms (we were there for a month, so had a lot of stuff. We spent hours moving and re-organizing.) As an additional point, which can be a big deal depending on your vehicle, is the parking garage. It sucks, very difficult to maneuver. We have a 2019 Kia Sorrento, and parking was a real pain. The Monterey Bay does have a nice pool indoor and outdoor. We were there in the off season and there was a lot of maintenance going on which meant we couldn’t always use everything. This place includes a breakfast available until 9:30 a.m. It’s exceedingly mediocre, (food isn’t quite hot enough, little variety, barely acceptable taste) but at least it is included in the price. The HUGE negative: Customer service, and in particular, the housekeeping. We were told that with our monthly stay there would be housekeeping once a week on a set day. Okay, fine. Well, we happened to need some extra towels one time, and I called to request. I was rather rudely told that our housekeeping was ONCE A WEEK and that I really shouldn’t expect my request to be accommodated. Ummm...what? Never been in a hotel with staff with that attitude. Shoot, I bet even a Motel 6 staff has a better attitude! We had to miss one housekeeping day because my husband was sick in bed; there was no offer to come on a different day. Just our tough luck. And again, this is the off season (December 2019/January 2020) and it is not like the place is slammed with guests. We try to be reasonable people and have fair expectations. I am very reluctant to get folks working in these tough jobs in any kind of trouble, so we don't complain unless something is really a big deal. The next housekeeping day, we made it a point to leave for the day so that the housekeeping team had enough time to clean thoroughly. We were out for literally most of the day, and when we returned, our room had not been touched. I had to call the front desk, who said they would tell housekeeping to get up there. When they came, it was one lady and my son and I had to stay in the room because we had been out all day and needed to get some things done. This housekeeping service was slipshod, what I would call barely adequate. I didn't want to say anything to the lady because it was late in the day and I figured she was tired. The next (and last) housekeeping day, we were out, and when we returned, the only thing done that we could observe was fresh towels. When I called to complain about the issue mentioned below, I was told the housekeeping staff spent 20 whole minutes on that visit. Well, all I can say is that IF they did, they were not working the whole time. When my husband came in, he asked if they had even cleaned, and I told him the only thing I observed was some fresh towels. We checked out the following Monday. Come Tuesday, with no warning, notification, phone call or email, after we had left Myrtle Beach, they slapped us with a $75 charge for housekeeping because there was “too much trash” in the room and housekeeping had to “really spend some time” cleaning. Ummm...yes, it takes cleaning after a family has been there for a MONTH with indifferent housekeeping from the staff during our stay. I was told when I called that it was EXPECTED that we do some of our own cleaning and that it was not to their standards. Geez, I thought that was why we spent over $1000 there, to be treated like guests. But the fact is, we DID do our own cleaning a number of times. We bagged our own trash and took it out frequently, but there is limited trash can space outside of the room for us to use. I guess we should have put bags of trash out in the hall for other guests to enjoy. We purchased disinfectant wipes and wiped down counters/stove. We used the in-suite kitchen a fair amount and always cleaned that up and did the dishes. I am absolutely baffled by this treatment of good customers. We were quiet, respectful of the property, and did not hassle the staff at all other than to make the above-mentioned simple requests. We will never stay again at the Monterey Bay, and I am advising friends/family not to either. Myrtle Beach has literally thousands of rooms can do much better and go somewhere where your business will actually be appreciated, where the management and staff have a better attitude, and where the housekeeping team isn’t lazy and indifferent. Dropping the ball on cleanliness!

This place would be an awesome place if they would only maintain it properly. The rooms are always disgusting because nobody really cleans them with hard cleaner. They always have maintenance issues like exhaust fans full of dust in bathroom. And the air condition filter totally dirty. Floors are never properly cleaned. Even the pool areas of this place is very dirty. Especially the bathrooms outside the pool area look like World War 3 no matter what time of year you go. Went here in the offseason when they have plenty of time to clean rooms and get things right with maintenance. Everything was just as it was 10 years ago. The Jets in the hot tub very seldom work on 10th floor. The temperature is never that hot. And they always need water at all the hot tubs. No one seems to monitor the pool area and there's towels usually laying everywhere by the end of the day. They always run out on 10th floor. And the 10th floor pool that used to be heated is barely heated now. For some reason for 10 years this place has been in a state of depression. I don't know why they did have a death here in the lazy river. I don't know if that has something to do with it or not. Don't know how they ground usually never has enough water in the Lazy River either. From what I take of it and mother or father was not watching their child properly. Heard while we were there they had roaches and rats in a fourth floor unit. Just don't understand wow this place doesn't have more cleanliness going on. They need the three C's which are cleanliness, cost-effectiveness, and great courteous service. Also allow people II trips to your breakfast bar. I mean my God went on vacation or not dieting on vacation. Also offer more fruit selections. Love the lady at the free breakfast she is always been the most friendliest part of this hotel. I hope you will increase your cleanliness and maintenance of your building I love this hotel. But I truly hate how it is run. It has not been ran well for the last 10 years. I know that because I have been coming here that long. Also your rates are a little high for what you offer the Britannia Resorts nearby blow you away on prices. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Nice Stay (Almost)

First let me say that any trip to MB is awesome! Me and the missus skipped Christmas for a holiday getaway and chose Monterey Bay as our escape. Upon our arrival I freaked-out at the parking garage - a 10-level rollercoaster designed backed in the 70’s during the reign of Ford Pintos and Chevy Vegas (for you young ones ... think Mini Cooper and Yaris) ... they never anticipated the rise of the SUV! I drive an FJ Cruiser. Check-in was normal and our room was nice until Monday’s heavy rain resulted in a puddle of water in the bedroom and so we switched to a new room. We def enjoyed the free breakfast each day but trying to make toast using a conveyor-oven made me want to drink heavily. The waffle station was a comedy show - one machine with a dozen hangry folks waiting and waiting. The pools were clean and they all were open - bonus to the pool dudes. Though on several ocasions there were no pool towels available. Room cleaning was spotty as one day they forgot to leave fresh towels, my wife noticed the kitchen countertops were’t wiped clean, ... when she dropped a wet dish cloth on the floor it came up dirty (as in the floors probably aren’t steam-cleaned between visitors). In the morning when the sun came up I could see streak marks on the balcony windows. But overall the staff was friendly and courteous. My biggest downer was when I found a violation sticker on my windshield ... I had parked on the first floor which was not part of the rollercoaster parking maze ... where other SUVs were parked ... someone had taken measurements of my FJ and the implication provided by the front desk was that my vehicle should have been parked up the maze. A more clearer explanation should have been provided upon check-in. Best part was taking a dip in the 12th floor swimming pool at night (no sugar-jacked kids!). TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Just okay

I will not stay there again due to the parking garage situation due to the likelihood you will destroy your vehicle trying to park in that ridiculous garage. Breakfast was fine, our room was fine. The lazy river sides and bottom were so rough I had to wear water shoes so I didn't tear my feet up. My grandkids cut up their feet and hands on the rough walls and floor of the inside water features and were bleeding. The water was a little chilly compared to other resorts we have stayed at in the winter at Myrtle Beach. Had to ask for a skillet as there wasn't one in the room and no pot holders so if you use the oven good luck finding something to get the pan out of the oven with. Kitchen supplies weren't much to cook with. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
