Perfect for quick/short getaways!

Feb 24th, 2020

I recently stayed at Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa, & it was lovely! It was a short getaway (2 nights) during the weekday. From check in to check out, the service was excellent! The location was perfect which was at the start of Cannery Row. Again, the service from the staff was great. The only minor issue for me is value for price. For a weekday stay, it was more on the pricey side. I ended up booking an Inland Executive Suite (which was basically two rooms combined) b/c it was cheaper (still pricey) than the Standard Oceanview Room. The suite didn't come w/ credit for breakfast or spa which I thought was a bit strange. Typically, when I've booked suites in the past, breakfast was always included, & for that price, it should've been. I opted out of using the spa onsite & took a short walk (literally less than 5 minutes) to Monterey Day Spa. Bang for you buck! Overall, I would definitely recommend staying at Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa. It's beautiful & located in perfect area. It also offers free valet parking which is a steal for Cannery Row. You might save a bit if you dine &/or doing other activities offsite. There are a lot of hidden gems w/ killer savings located close by. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

No resort fee would have made it perfect!

Feb 22nd, 2020

Beautiful hotel, rooms, plaza. Over the water. Worth it to get an ocean view room with balcony and watch the otters and seals thru the provided binoculars. Advertised price does not include the unavoidable "resort fee", but the overall price does include wifi, parking and free use of a limited number of bikes. Bike rental and kayak tours available across the street and down the block. Aquarium two blocks and Lover's Point beach is a one mile walk on bike/walk trail. All the employees were exceptionally helpful and professional and rooms were spotlessly clean and quiet (except for seals!!). Hot tub and saunas on the top floor very nice. Beautiful spa if a bit pricey. Walking distance to plenty of dining and Tidal Coffee (in hotel) is a great quick, breakfast option. Wharf nearby and Carmel a 10 minute drive. Had a great time and would recommend to anyone. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Unmatched customer service!

Feb 21st, 2020

If you are looking for a beautiful hotel, with phenomenal customer service, attention to detail, genuinely friendly staff in a convenient location- do yourself a favor and book this hotel...you will NOT regret it! :-) My husband and I came to Monterey Plaza for a vacation before our baby arrives (a “baby moon” 😊) and we were blown away by the amazing service and friendliness of all staff members throughout our whole stay at the Monterey Plaza. From check in to check out, we loved every minute of our stay. We were so impressed at the complimentary valet service and the shuttle service to anywhere in Monterey offered by the hotel. They also offered complimentary wine and cheese when we arrived (Wednesday) which was a great touch! And we were also impressed by the massages we had at the spa at the hotel. Our masseuses were great during our couples massage, and very attentive to our needs and preferences and it was my first “mommy-to-be” massage, and my masseuse made sure I and my baby were comfortable the whole time! The spa was immaculate and beautiful and you could tell they really cared about their guests experience from start to finish! The rooftop lounge area for post-massage relaxation with hot tubs and a fire place with an ocean view were a perfect end to a relaxing massage! What blew us away the most during our stay, was when guest service team members Jeffery and Jessica surprised us while we were up at our massages (we still don’t know how they knew we weren’t in our room- they planned it SO perfectly!!) by bringing balloons, a handwritten card, a bouquet of flowers, a bottle of sparkling apple cider, chocolate covered strawberries AND a cheese and cracker plate to us to await us when we returned from our massages as a congratulations on the arrival of our daughter and to wish us a great baby moon! Talk about phenomenal customer service- we were completely blown away and are still smiling from that sweet gift! It was such a sweet gesture and words cannot express our gratitude, as that is something we will remember forever. Jeffery and Jessica- thank you SO much for doing this, you truly made our baby moon!! I hope you know how much that meant to us! Thank you to all the staff at Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa for the memorable experience of a lifetime, we will be customers of yours for life whenever we travel to Monterey and recommend you to anyone we know who will be traveling! Great Place, Ignore the old Trip Advisor Photos

Feb 21st, 2020

Please ignore the trip advisor photos, they are out of date. This hotel had a complete remodel about 2-3 years ago so everything is like new, please see attached room photo. The lobby overlooks the water and it pretty big place for the kids to run around. The hotel is a 10 minute walk from the aquarium, but if you upgrade to an ocean view, ocean front room you’ll be able to see sea otters, seals, several birds...and maybe even a whale like we did (however no guarantees). There is a kelp bed about 50-75 yards in the bay and the sea life plays and lives out there. There is also a small public beach right next to and below the hotel dock if you decide to dip your toes in the cold water. However if you opt for a non sea view room there is a public patio out back with a fire pit where you can check out the sea life. There is also a coffee place next door. Please note there is 24/7 valet parking which is included in the $32/day resort fee. We had a small mix up with the housekeeping, but when it was brought to the hotel’s attention they resolved the issue immediately and provided a complimentary cheese and cookie plate. Overall a great place to stay and relax TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Fantastic ocean views

Feb 21st, 2020

Stayed for just a night, but decided to upgrade to an ocean view room and it was completely worth it. Slept with the window open so we could here the sounds of the waves, birds, and sea lions and woke up to a family of otters feeding right outside our window. Enjoyed the coffee shop on site and the fire pit, and the complimentary wine when we checked in was much appreciated. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
