An Oasis in Oia
Sep 23rd, 2020
My husband and I stayed here as one our first post-quarantine trips and it was lovely. I work in travel so I stay in and work with hotels a lot, so am very exacting when it comes to selecting a hotel and the service standard. Mystique exceeded all of my expectations and I would definitely recommend it to clients and friends. From the moment you step (and step, and step) foot into the hotel you feel taken care. The views from everywhere and every room are stunning, especially from breakfast and looking over the edge of the infinity pool. The food itself at breakfast was lovely. I'm still thinking about the Greek-style tomato eggs I get each morning. The staff was so kind to us even though we took over the back of the restaurant for a few hours on our computers. They kept us happy with a steady stream of frappes (and later, beers). All of the staff from the team that carried up our bags, the cleaners, the front desk staff, food and beverage, the manager, and everyone did such a good job helping us feel welcome and safe. We especially appreciated them recommending great local dining gems and spots for sunsets. I t was also a perfect location in Oia -- not too central to be busy, but also walking distance to Ammoudi Bay and to Finikia to escape the crowds and for a more local experience. We do feel lucky to have been able to experience Oia without as many people and no cruise ships in port, though regardless of the crowds outside, Mystique is a great oasis. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

This is a fabulous resort and we thoroughly enjoyed our 7-night stay in late August. This was our first trip to Santorini and I clearly understand what all the fuss is about. The island is beautiful, the people are friendly, and the late summer climate was perfect. This resort surely enhanced our experience. The hotel website photos really say it all and in my opinion are very accurate. The resort is literally carved into the slope and from all angles you get gorgeous views of the caldera. We stayed in villa 8, an Allure suite with a king bed and a jacuzzi hot tub inside the villa bathroom. I particularly loved this villa because every room had large picturesque windows out onto the resort and caldera, including the bedroom. We also had a small private terrace and while some guests comment that there isn’t a great deal of privacy, it didn’t bother us; I could count the number of times on one hand that I saw a guest pass down the steps past our villa. The resort is also well situated and built as far down as you could possibly build on the cliff. This means you’re not looking down at other hotels and other people. While yes this means a few more steps to get to the resort, there’s a feeling of greater exclusivity then the resorts nearer to the road. The different villages across Santorini each offer their own uniqueness and if you end up selecting Oia for your stay I think this is the best hotel and best hotel location in Oia. I should also note that we took advantage of the Mystique’s relationship with the Istoria hotel where we went a couple of times to enjoy a day on the black sand beach. I’d highly recommend this. Lastly, my partner and I were engaged during our stay and everything was perfect. The team at the Mystique really went above and beyond to create a very special evening, a romantic dinner on the private terrace. With such an incredibly memorable event I could not think of anything I’d improve, including the excellent and professional team. Nor can I think of another setting I’d rather have been in. I want to send a special thank you to the wonderful staff for making our experience so great, including the concierge team Dimitra and Antonia, and Dorota who waited on us daily for breakfast and lunch by the pool, as well as the countless team of wait staff who’s names I’m already forgetting! Looking forward to returning one day. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

All I can say is it’s classic. The service is really good, stairs are a nightmare but it is great place to stay. Rafael is the best, I would give 4 stars if wasn’t for him. Lovely place and I will be returning for sure. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

A few little quirks in a hotel can be charming - but when almost everything goes wrong, it is simply unacceptable, especially in this kind of property. Our first problem came when we wrote to book hotel transfers - no answer for 48 hours or so, despite several emails. Then when we finally arrived, we were checked into a room that did not at all correspond to what we saw on Internet. It was theoretically the same category, but the view and the disposition did not correspond to what had attracted us. We wouldn't have booked if we had seen pictures of this particular room. With only 41 rooms and villas, the hotel could have pictures of each room on their website. Next, the shower in this first room did not function correctly and the door of the shower leaked. When we finally got the room we wanted after 2 nights, it was not properly cleaned: there was a plastic bag floating in the pool and other stuff at the bottom of the jacuzzi (though we had waited hours for it to be cleaned). In this room, the bath was totally inoperative, and the shower door wouldn't close at all. It took them 24 hours to send someone to fix the tub and more generally we had to ask two or three times for everything that we needed: there were towels that were missing as was the shampoo, toilet paper was not replaced, we got chocolates at night only 3 evenings out of 5, and so on. All in all, there was a total lack of information - no info brochure in the room and unclear communication of the part of the reception. In this kind of hotel, we've always had a welcome gift, a basket of fruit and/or a bottle of champagne, a departure gift, and so on - but here we got absolutely nothing. Then they tried to charge us 3 euros a bottle for the complimentary still water that was placed in the room rather sparingly given the heat. Surprisingly, there was no "Do Not Disturb" sign and staff would enter our area unannounced at all times of day. Our room and pool was right below the restaurant and several times items blew over and fell onto our terrace. It was called a "secrecy villa" but people in the restaurant or in the pool above had a perfect view of our private area. Why put the secrecy villa right below the main pool and restaurant? Finally, we asked for a taxi to visit another village and they booked the hotel driver for us without telling us that it wasn't going to be a taxi, so we certainly ended up paying much more than a taxi would have cost. Breakfast however was wonderful and the restaurant staff great. But we would definitely never go back, and it is shocking to note how poorly managed this property was for a so-called 5 star establishment. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
