Expected More

Feb 23rd, 2020

Just came home from a week long stay in Newport Beach. First the pros-great location, across the street from Fashion Island Shopping Center with restaurants and shopping within walking distance. Close to Balboa Island, PCH, Irvine, etc. Now for the cons-no concierge so no recommendations for what to do in the area. There’s a Starbucks/gift shop and the sign outside says open daily 5:30 to 6pm but it always closes before 6pm. Also on-site restaurant is closed Wednesday nights apparently for some weekly private event. This would have been nice to know after a long drive from LA, expecting to have dinner at the restaurant. There was no sign and we stood at the hostess stand for 10 minutes trying to get a table only to be told to go to the lounge. The spa was ok, might want to consider providing washcloths in the showers. Five stars to Tyson and all the valets for their fabulous service and suggestions for restaurants in the area. Best valet service we’ve had in a long time! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Wonderful Experience

Feb 18th, 2020

I booked two rooms here for me and my girlfriend and her girls, and I am so pleased with how everything went during or four night vacation. Specifically, I would like to compliment the Food and Beverage manager, Katie Koler. We were eating breakfast one morning in the restaurant, and we were not being tended to very attentively. I was a bit frustrated, and Ms. Koler stepped in and personally served us the rest of our meal. She made us feel very good and really went out of her way to make sure we had a pleasant experience. It was such a small thing she did, but made a big difference to us. I recommend the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel & Spa to anyone wanting a luxurious hotel experience in an amazing location. Thank you, Ms, Koler! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great location, but nothing more

Feb 17th, 2020

My girlfriend and I were looking for a hotel to stay for a quick overnight in the OC area. We thought what better way can we spend than to stay at Marriott since I’m a Bonvoy member. I booked the hotel room about a month ago, after making a difficult decision between this property and Balboa Bay Resort. We checked in on the afternoon of 15-FEB. The parking wasn’t bad, yet signs were a bit confusing, after realizing I had parked my car in the valet spots in the garage. The lobby agent was friendly, and had no issues. We were assigned to room 358. We arrived at the room, and found the overall aesthetics to be clean, although some area could definitely use some TLC as some areas of the room showed some dated aspects. The bed area was overall clean, and the space of the room was adequate for two people. The bathroom was quite clean, though the light switch was dirty and sticky. The wallpaper looked quite dated. The shower had really terrible water pressure. This room, for its area, could’ve been better renovated in my opinion. The proximity between the hotel tower and lobby area was quite far, but I guess it did give me the excuse to walk more, as part of my daily exercise. One of the perks of this hotel is its location—across the street from Fashion Island, and the proximity to the beach was less than 10 minutes away. I paid roughly $237 for room, $35 for daily parking, and the remaining for some taxes and miscellaneous fees, though I would’ve expected a much better quality for the amount paid. It fell a bit short on my expectations list. Overall grade: C TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

The Newport Beach Marriott was great for my stay as it was in a great location for shopping, meeting friends and enjoying the sites. The staff was courteous and the hotel was clean. You could walk to great stores, restaurants and local pubs. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Very nice resort in a great location

Feb 4th, 2020

This is a very nice resort in a great location, just a couple of miles from the beach and across the street from shopping and entertainment. The pool was beautiful and heated nicely in February (they also have a smaller saltwater pool in the spa area, which is included with resort fee). Outdoor area included nice turf area with games, cabanas, hot tub, and view of the ocean in the distance. The room was nicely appointed, if not a little small. Great views if you are facing the ocean. I found the staff to be very professional, friendly, and helpful. You felt like you were at resort where they wanted to take care of you. Parking and the resort fee are kind of pricey, but I guess that's the price of staying in a nice hotel these days. I'd stay here again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
