Fantastic stay at this wonderful hotel. Nice and clean. Smelled clean! Free parking next to garage to due to bc of covid the town not charging in the lot. Super friendly staff. I asked for coffee and they have us plenty of supplies with complimentary bottled waters! Sean was really nice and helpful and deserves a raise. Very hospitable. Stayed for two nights and felt very welcomed. Definitely recommend. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great Hotel, 10/10 reccommend

Took a Valentines day trip (3 nights) to Newport and decided to stay at the Marriott after reading all of the reviews and seeing the pictures. We got there on Sunday at 230pm and checked in. The room wasn't ready so the very nice girl at the reception desk said that she would call us when the room was ready. About 10 minutes later, she found us sitting in the atrium and gave us our room keys. We went up to the room (605) and although it had a beautiful view of the bridge, we wanted to stay in an inside balcony room, so I went back downstairs and asked for one; she switched our room keys and off to room 525 we went. We got to 525, and the door wouldn't unlock, after multiple attempts, by housekeeping and engineering they replaced the battery in the door lock and were were good to go. A manager happened to see us with our bags waiting in the hallway and he asked us if we were ok and if we needed anything, we told him the situation and he apologized for the inconvenience, and brought us two bottles of cold life water. A lovely gesture indeed! Let. me. tell. you. DO ANYTHING YOU CAN to stay in a balcony room! It was absolutely amazing! that little bit extra room made all the difference. We spent more time out there than we did in the room. Coffee/cocktails it was perfect. The room was beautiful, the bed was comfortable, the tv was big, the bathroom/shower was beautiful. Seriously, not one bad thing to say about the room. The Pool was cold, and the guy who was "monitoring" the pool and fitness center and was checking you in was less than pleasant. Not very friendly at all, but hey, we only needed to deal with him for 5 seconds. We ate breakfast at Mail Sail the first morning we woke up there. Food was just ok, service was absolutely terrible. The waitress was not friendly, didnt introduce herself, when we asked for more whipped butter, they brought over regular butter and when we asked her if we could have the whipped butter she proceeded to dispute with us that it was the same exact butter (it was a complete different color). Never asked us how our meal was, and if she could get us anything further, etc. We had a window seat, so that was nice. The hotel itself was beautiful, clean, always someone walking around sanitizing, every staff member (except the two I already mentioned) were wonderful, everyone was super friendly and courteous. With all that being said, the place was absolutely beautiful and I will definitely be back! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Good hotel with some issues

We stayed at The Newport Marriott for a few days during New Year's Week. The hotel was relatively empty except for New Year's Eve where it appeared people decided to come to Newport and stay for the night. The hotel was very clean. The lobby was essentially empty of furniture and there were no holiday decorations except for a Seasons Greeting halogram on one big wall in the lobby. We had an issue with our room and needed to switch rooms as our room had a horrible odor of gas. We were given a new room that had a drain in the shower that did not drain well. Even after advising the front desk of the issue and having someone fix it, it still did not work. I once again advised the front desk person of the issue upon check out. The room size was very small and there was a desk chair to sit on. Other than that you needed to sit on the bed. This was quite annoying since there were no public places to sit in the lobby and we had no place to sit in the room either. Another issue was the parking. The hotel charges $25 a night to park - no valet - just parking. SInce it was winter, we were told we could park in the public lot next door for free. I was glad we were given this option. There is no reason in the winter to charge such a high fee for parking in the hotel garage. The public garage was just a few steps further than the hotel garage. As we stayed 4 nights, this saved us $100. I would recommend this hotel as it was quiet and clean. However, if I were going to Newport in the summer, I would prefer a property with an outdoor pool or an outdoor deck. I am not sure if a pool deck is set up in the summer. While the pool was open, we did not use the pool. The fitness center was closed due to Covid. The food at the hotel was quite good. We were given vouchers for breakfast since we had to change rooms and we enjoyed the breakfast and the service was excellent. The breakfast was pricey but they served a lot of food for the price. We also had dinner one night at the restaurant and the food was very good. All in all, I recommend this hotel as the staff are very accomodating and helpful. The staff tried their hardest to fix the issues that arose during our stay. For those worried about being Covid conscious, this hotel was very Covid conscious and we felt all safety precautions were maintained and implemented. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Never Again

We have stayed here several times but this was so disappointing. It felt like we’re on a horrible cruise ship in the middle of now where. No one here, no music in Lobby we visited several other hotels and all had some form of life and piped in music. Paid well over what other hotels were charging. We will not not return TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Good hotel within walking distance to everything

Check in was seamless with the front desk recognizing my Marriott status. It was a holiday weekend and we were able to park in the garage for no charge. We booked an atrium room and the balcony was perfect for coffee or a cocktail. The room was spotless, but we still ran through our own Clorox wipe down. We declined room service, but you could request it. You could pick up fresh towels or bed linens at the desk or have them delivered. Room was a good size with a full sitting area and coffee table. We were able to use the pool and gym after filling out the contract tracing information. We never found anyone else in the gym. The pool always had a few people, but the real gem was to sit outside of the pool and look into the Newport harbor. The hotel was doing the best it could with the current and ever changing COVID-19 restrictions. Some guests didn’t wear masks and the enforcement from hotel staff varied greatly. There was also a 2 person limit of non-related guests in the elevators, so that can cause lines at times. Only negative was at times staffing was overwhelmed. On checkout there was one front desk associate, the system was down and she was just turning everyone away saying I can’t do anything about it. Thankfully it came up shortly and we were able to do a proper check-out. One gem is that across the street in a plaza is liberty donuts, that is perfect for breakfast. They not only have donuts, but breakfast sandwiches, bagels, etc. Bottom line I would stay here again when traveling to Newport, price was right, location great (never had to use our car during our stay), and staff was making the best of it the current restrictions.
