Great valet service, very nice and welcoming at check in. The room was nice and neat and beyond my expectations. Very comfortable stay, the in room dining was also delicious. I ordered the spicy tuna, cauliflower, and chicken all three were very good. The chicken was cooked and presented perfectly and was also juicy and tasty. The cauliflower comes with really good sauce as well. I really enjoyed staying here and hope to visit again soon. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Poor experience

Nov 22nd, 2019

First time staying here., but not sure I’d return. Some construction in main foyer meant that access is through a side fire escape at the moment. Really odd. Also on day I left had to find alternative elevator as one was out of order and I ended up exiting through the kitchen or something like that. Very strange. At check out I was charged the wrong rooms bill including stuff I hadn’t had. Only spotted this as asked for a copy of the bill. Took ages to correct this and I ended up leaving without a reprint. They did refund some money to me in the end but it was the inconvenience that impacted me over all, as its my employer who gets that back not me. The room was lovely. High tech with Alexa controlled lights and blinds. Weirdly the blinds open when you switch the lights on which isn’t ideal when you’re in nightwear! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

I find writing this review a bit complicated. First, there was a messy construction on the first floor. I had difficulty finding the entrance next to the construction site, which led me through a narrow dirty stairwell to the second floor check in. There was no one around to help with baggage, etc. when I arrived. The next day, I saw a staff person standing on the corner, so maybe the guy just stepped out. They first put me in the back of the property which overlooked the ally where the construction was going on. i asked for another room toward the front of the hotel overlooking the intersection, which was better. Second, the price. This is an expensive property. Of course, Palo Alto is expensive. But I did not feel that the property was worth the price. The room was relatively small (in that sense, it reminded me of Tokyo). The decor was minimalist modern Japanese..not the best execution of this form...but good. I found a lot of stuff to be a bit gimmicky..for example the Amazon Alexa and the motorized blind and curtain that kept coming down when I wanted it up. The TV was the largest I have ever seen...not a bad thing but a bit overwhelming given the size of the room. The balcony was nice but there was no seating. I found the fawning reviews here to be a bit over the top. Yes, it is a clean property, tastefully decorated, with relatively polite staff. Perhaps it is the Japanese theme...or the reputation of the restaurant that makes people overlook the downside. Even if there was no construction going on, It would be difficult for me to give this property a "5" TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great hotel

Nov 14th, 2019

I enjoyed my stay here. Positives were the friendly staff and the great location. The room designs are very Japanese and relaxing. Easy walking distance to shops/restaurants of Palo Alto. Negatives are that the rooms are small (though still pleasant) and the hotel is undergoing construction. So check on that before you book. Overall a very positive experience. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Beautiful rooms, excellent service.

Oct 7th, 2019

This hotel is in a great location if you want to be downtown, but more important are the aesthetics. The rooms are incredible, with beautiful linens, furniture, lamps, amenities. Very little touch has been addressed with the finest, most beautiful items. So I slept like a king. And the service is terrific, the staff are extremely attentive without being unctuous. This extends from the restaurant to the front desk (on the 2nd floor) to the manager, Alex C. I had a few requests, and he was terrific in addressing but also making it feel normal, relaxed. Love this place. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
