Not as great as it could be

All in all, this place doesn’t live up to its potential and everything considered (including Luxemburg hotel rates) you end up leaving with the feeling that you didn’t get your money’s worth. Service and attention to detail are the biggest letdowns. Let me start by the pros. I had a renovated room, which was bright and spacious with ample storage space. The sofa (bed) didn’t make the room feel cramped at all, which is a feat in itself. People on business could easily stay here for a few days without feeling cooped up or tripping over luggage. Super clean! Extra points for separating toilet from bathroom and the great shower. Decent and - for hotel norms - cosy bar. Service needs some work, however. My check-in was already a bit haphazard. Clearly the computer system wasn’t playing ball and was stressing the receptionist out. That said, she handled things to the best of her ability and was cheerful throughout. I was a bit uncomfortable with having to ask for my membership privileges myself, but she went the extra mile to get me a slightly later check-out which was much appreciated. Things went downhill in the morning when it turned out the big notices in the elevators stating “we’re doing renovation work but you will have no noise disruption because of that” were taking the mickey. Just be truthful about such things upfront and people will be less annoyed by it. Upon checkout there was confusion because the payment didn’t take into account used loyalty points (and even though I had that clearly stated on my booking confirmation, I was given the impression that this was my fault as I should have mentioned it again upon check-in). This time no cheerful demeanour to make up for all the hassle. On the contrary, I was just made to feel like I was creating problems (and at one point ignored). In the end, a manager was consulted and apparently the issue had a quick fix. It would have been nice if that was the go-to-setting (consulting a manager) instead of having to go through the rigmarole of huffing, puffing and making people feel unwelcome. It was a sour end to a great stay. I should probably also note that the invoice you get in case of express check-out creates a lot of confusion (invoicing two breakfasts just in case you have some, etc.). Personally, I’d prefer the invoice to be sent at a later time (not 6ish in the morning) and be correct from the first go. Add to that some minor details (one complimentary bottle of water in a double room... really?) and I ended up feeling paying dear for what I got, especially in comparison to other hotels of the same chain. A pity, cause the new rooms are grand and I fee the hotel has a lot of potential still, but I won’t stay here on my next trip in a couple of months. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

So-so visit but not one for tourists

We came for a mini break in Luxembourg City and chose this hotel because of its proximity to ville haute as well as the train station as we planned to travel upcountry for a day. First the good points. Staff were efficient and the hotel was clean and tidy. We asked to change rooms because of persistent noise above us and the front desk sorted that quickly so we were given a room on the top floor. This isn't a hotel pitched at the tourist market and we knew that but even so the novotel is dispiritingly bland. It can't be that difficult to build a hotel where every door closing echoes in other rooms. It also can't be hard to provide in-room tea and coffee facilities better than a couple of sachets of gold blend an old plastic kettle and some chemical powder called "creamer". We ate dinner in the restaurant and again that was a bland and soulless experience. An OK stay but some concentration on little touches would have been better. Good staff though. Perfect hotel for business

Tourist friendly and very clean

Located near the Passerelle, the hotel is a very nice place to stay. The rooms are clean, the staff is very friendly and always trying to make sure your needs are being adressed, specially Caroline. Not the cheaper option but definitelly worth it, because, at least for me, everything was smooth. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Nice location, comfortable rooms and good breakfast

Good hotel if you want to spend a day or two in Luxembourg. Very close to the main street and Christmas market. Clean rooms, but you definitely need to ask for a small heater for your room, as the temperature was very low, 22c only. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
