Quick weekend trip

Sep 20th, 2020

Two night stay over the weekend. We booked through our travel agent but we requested to book here after staying in the past. It’s very nicely placed to walk around Queenstown, lake, shops and restaurants, gardens and playground. The room was basic and tidy. We had a twin bed room to accommodate our daughter with us, so with two beds in it was a little tight but we were fine. The staff were very kind and our daughter was in love with the little elephant towel animal that one of the room attendants left on the bed for her. As always parking is a unfortunate extra cost but the valet was always really quick to get the car and most of the time you leave the car at the hotel and walk from here anyway. I thought I’d read on the website there was an illy coffee machine in the rooms but it was just instant coffee and a jug, so that must be outdated. But other than that I couldn’t fault it. We were not in a lakeside room but our view was of forest and a stream - so lovely just the same. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

This hotel really thinks it is better than it is - average to good at best

Sep 20th, 2020

Arrived at 2.50pm and room not ready. In fact no room was ready for quite some time until we eventually had to complain and then one was miraculously available. Good choice at breakfast but is 100% buffet - no help from staff at all. Parking is valet parking only which was a bit of a faff (and a cost if I remember correctly). Hotel in good location for both lake & downtown. We stupidly left our passports at the hotel & found out several days (& hundreds of miles) later. The hotel had left 1 voicemail message for me but I wasn't using my phone for tel calls as I'm from UK/cost. When I did contact them, I had to speak to several staff/managers before getting someone to arrange to send the ppts to Christchurch by courier. I was left very frustrated & unimpressed with the attitude of most of the staff who I dealt with. Also, I was told to collect ppts from the Customs Building whereas in fact they were with DHL at Chch Airport - that made for another hour plus going round the airport and an expensive call to Customs (in Auckland) as the building had closed at 4pm!! The Novotel Q'town may be rated 4* but I would rate it 3* at best. Customer service was woeful on arrival and after departure. I would definitely not stay here again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

A very good hotel to stay

Aug 17th, 2020

The Novotel Queenstown Lakeside is certainly a very good hotel to stay. The location directly at the Lake Wakatipu and the beach is nice, a minute walk to Queenstown centre and wharf only. The Novotel Queenstown is your perfect hub to explore not only Queenstown but also do your trips to Glenorchy, Kinloch, Cardrona and Wanaka. However, the $25 parking for your car over night is a shame, the breakfast during Covid poorly managed. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Brilliant Location

Aug 15th, 2020

We had an amazing week at the Novotel Lakeside. Every single interaction we had with a staff member was positive - from the front counter staff, to the cleaners, to the restaurant. The breakfast buffet was amazing, and the switch to Level 2 restricted breakfast went smoothly in the middle of our holiday. The location is epic, and we made significant use of it - our car spent more time in the valet parking than out and about with us as we walked to most attractions. The room was comfortable and clean, and the "mountain view" upgrade (the "mountain" you get to view is that of the gondola, and it was strange to see the upper station dark at night with no night luge operating) was great because it meant we got fantastic afternoon sunshine. The rooms are feeling a little tired - pulls in the carpet, chips in the paint on skirtings. But these minor imperfections in no way detract from the amazing experience we had. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
