Great stay

Sep 19th, 2020

Stayed here for one night during the week with a friend and our two babies (9 months and 6 months) in a family room. Room was clean and had everything we needed for our stay. 2 travel costs were provided and additional bedding. The gent checking us in was great and provided all necessary information which was reassuring given Covid 19. The hotel operates a one way system and face coverings are to be worn in communal areas. Overall a great stay and will definitely stay here again given the proximity to the city centre. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Not happy with service

Sep 16th, 2020

We were given a room which we hadn’t asked or booked for, it was two beds pushed together, we asked for a queen room - far from it. We moved rooms as we complained to be given a lovely room the next night. I’d left my earrings in the room, so we asked the manager to see if they had been handed in, he never even asked he just said no. The manager was very unhelpful and unfriendly and said oh peter will sort this out ! Peter was very helpful. From the service we had, I’d never come back. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

City break in good location in York

Sep 15th, 2020

Ideal for a city break. Out of the city but within easy pleasant walk into town centre along the river side. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Did online check in but still waited 15 minutes to get key! Process not explained as 1 receptionist in corner with queues to see her. We could have avoided that wait HAD WE KNOWN. Rooms satisfactory but basic design faults. Bad points: Seperate toilet but no hand wash basin so have to leave loo to wash hands in bathroom Mirror right next to bed. Not good place for it. Basic sofa not comfortable. Good points: Fridge! Room to store wine and breakfast yoghurts. Room ventilation effective. Mirror in bathroom with good lighting. Good wardrobe space with safe. Would have given higher rating BUT though the hotel supports Covid measures when we checked in the carpet had not been hoovered. We sought out help (further up the corridor) from room assistant to request it to be done. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Average stay

Sep 14th, 2020

Stayed here on a Saturday night during September 2020. Parking was nice and easy, £13.50 for the night. Managed to check in early which was good, room was disappointing. Quite a lot of stains on the carpet, seemed well lived in, surfaces not exactly polished to expectations, little stain on towel. Understanding of the regulations and limitations in place due to Covid, breakfast was served as one hot full English (or veggie version) and could collect a prepacked lunchbox full of breakfast items such as bread roll, croissant, cereal, milk, joghurt. Really liked the pool experience - as you have to prebook, only 2 hotel rooms are allowed in at one time and it was just my partner and I for our half hour Sunday morning swim which we enjoyed. Location is pretty good, 15 min walk maximum into the centre of York I'd say. The sleep itself was quite awful. We were on the 2nd floor with our room near the lifts and it was noisy all night - not other guests, but staff/mechanics. Took me 2 hours to get to sleep at best. Overall, definitely not a 4 star hotel experience, more like 3 (at a push) and would most likely stay somewhere in York next time. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Comfortable night

Sep 13th, 2020

Great location, very much recommend exiting via the outdoor terrace and walking in to the city centre down the river. Car parking a bargain at £13.50 a night, paid on check out and covering for two full days even when only staying for one night. Lovely bar area and quite reasonably priced. A little noisier than expected in the morning with other guests pounding the halls but not a lot can be done about that. Stayed in a superior room which was very contemporary and nicely decorated with a fantastic bathroom and the varied supply of toiletries were lovely. Sound night’s sleep with an extremely comfortable bed. Unfortunately, the promised espresso machine didn’t have any coffee pods and the minibar was empty and switched off. The TV, although a huge size, was only a basic Freeview TV without any of the advertised web access or satellite/cable channels. These are the only reasons that I have marked the hotel as a 4 rather than 5 as we were relying on a web TV to access an online-only football channel. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
