WOW Just Wow

Jun 23rd, 2019

THis is truly one of the nicest resorts I have ever stayed in. THe staff are exceedingly friendly, theiy have every ammentiy one could ask for. THe rooms are large, and extremely comfortable. The food, what i did try, was outstanding. Now, I must admit, I was here for a conference and thus at a much reduced rate so this would have been out of my price range normally, but if you get the chance to go, it is a must. If you love to play golf or tennis, even better. Finally. the SPA is outstanding with everything one could want for relaxation TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Lovely but not wild about the layout or the dogs

Jun 20th, 2019

Things I enjoyed most about this resort: 1. The staff. Uniformly helpful, warm, and professional. 2. Poolside dining and service -- food quality and service surpassed The Oak, IMHO 3. Lovely room with top-notch bedding and amenities. 4. Exploring the town of Ojai -- recommend walking into town to visit the museum and the art galleries and shops. 5. The Farmhouse. Attended a corporate reception dinner here -- great atmosphere, food. What I did not enjoy: 1. Guests' dogs. In the restaurant? Off leash and jumping up on my dinner dress while I'm taking a walk? Ugh. 2. The layout. Evening is a snarl of people, dogs, kids, golf carts, pub and The Oak diners concentrated in a relatively small area. The resort needs another, separate restaurant/outdoor lounging area to decompress this area. 3. Steps. There are parts of the resort set into a hill. The steps are not all that well lit at night. If you have mobility issues, recommend asking to stay in a different part of the resort. 4. Agree with other comments that some of the rooms are positioned directly over noisy areas (eg, over cart paths, bell stand, the pub). I would not want to pay full price for those rooms, especially if I was planning a quiet retreat. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

California at its best

Jun 16th, 2019

We stayed for five days, all was good except the weather. There is a very relaxed atmosphere here, very laid back and all the staff ever helpful. There's golf, tennis, various swimming pool, all outdoor and all heated to 30C. Also gym, spa and bikes available. Various restaurants, a bar and a couple of shops selling clothes and gifts. Everything is of good quality but comes at a high price for us poor Brits who now have such a bad exchange rate. Glass of wine $15, a beer $10 to give you some idea, breakfast $40. Good thing though they do give you lots of bottled water free. but fridge is full with drink that you get charged for if you touch/move. No room for own drinks or food, e.g yoghurts etc. Rooms are large and beds comfortable, very nice bathrooms with shower and separate bath. Once you have parked your car in the car park or left it with the vallet, golf type shuttles drive you around the 240 acre estate to where you wish to go, e.g your room or one of the restaurants available. Only minus was you could hear the guests above you in your room, who in our case woke up very early and went to bed very late. I thought they might be housing the polo ponies above us. The room rate is quite high, then on top of this you get Taxes, Service, and Resort charges. This seems to be the norm in California and does put a lot on top of the room rate. Would I go again? Not unless I am asked to another wedding there, its a long way, but can see why you would go there if you lived in LA. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

My Home Away From Home

Jun 12th, 2019

This is my local staycation destination when I need to get away from Los Angeles, do some yoga/meditation, play some tennis and spend time with the family without jumping on a plane. I love that they are dog-friendly, have plenty of vegan options and an incredible spa. The grounds are beautiful and you don't feel the need to leave the property at all if you are doing a weekend stay. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Girls Get Away

Jun 10th, 2019

Let me start by saying I’ve been lusting over this place for years and my girlfriends and I finally planned a weekday trip to visit.....it exceeded my expectations and more. We went the week after Mother’s Day so there were still a lot of families with a lot of kids around. Luckily there is an adult only pool (and a kids pool) and there were no kids at the spa pool. We spent a lot of time at the fabulous spa and ate a lot. All of the restaurants had gluten free options and vegan options. I had the most amazing dairy free, vegan, gluten free enchiladas at their Oaks Restaurant....My girlfriends had lamb and a filet steak which they both said were amazing. During the day we went into town and visited Ojai Vineyards who makes a wonderful Grenache and ate at The Nest, a local restaurant who makes everything from scratch. I’m ambivalent about taking my husband, I’m not sure if he would enjoy Ojai the way I did. It is not new and shiny, but it has a calming feel and made me instantly feel relaxed. Truly enjoyed every minute I was there and can’t wait to go back. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
