Great Location/Too Many Dust Bunnies
Mar 14th, 2020
David (inn keeper) is lovely, but he could not make up for the shabby carpets, cramped room (2nd floor), and dust bunnies under the bed. I asked for a mop, and even the mop fell apart (1950s vintage). Postage stamp towels. Came down for breakfast last morning and saw dirty towel on check-in counter. Inn keeper asked if it was mine! I assured him it was not while I noted the black stains on it. Great location, but this place needs some serious updates. Even bed covers were old/worn. I love old hotels/B&Bs, but this place made a Best Western look good. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
A Gem (and great value) off Belmont's 'L' Stop

I emphatically recommend the Old Chicago Inn as you will get the value for your money - both in a stunning, accessible location and dedicated guest service. David in particular is phenomenal to work with and offers attentive care. Excellent place for couples and solo travelers as well as those looking to explore the many splendors the Lakeview/Boystown/Wrigleyville neighborhood(s) has/have to offer (and there are tons)! When seeking transportation, look no further than the Belmont 'L' station, located one minute (walking) southeast of the property. Bearing in mind this is a classic B&B in a historic building, taper your expectations accordingly and let the charm of this classic brownstone encompass you. Always my first go-to when in Chicago! What a great find! The place is absolutely charming, the area is full of life and interting things to see. The speakeasy downstairs is a must and you are a fool if you miss out on trader Todd's down the way. You do need to know that this is a two star place as advertised. If you require a sterile, soulless 5 star experience then this is not the place for you. Yes, the bathrooms could use an update. Yes, the carpeting could be replaced but all that makes is feels honey and cozy. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

After reading great reviews, I decided to book a room for 3 nights. This place is an interesting location, in a great part of town with a lot of restaurants and bars in walking distance. But, I must have given one of their worse rooms - it was on the 3rd floor in the back of the building - while clean, the room was very small, a tiny window high on the wall, no wifi reception, wires for the TV hanging on the wall, the bed was lopsided and the toilet was tucked in behind the shower with no more than 2.5 of space. The lock on the door was loose and took a bit of wiggling to work. The "breakfast" was banana's and a loaf of fruit bread and lukewarm coffee, The second morning, one banana and the same fruit loaf with the pieces missing from the previous morning. This was one of the hottest weeks in Chicago and the A/C was near non existent. All this being said, it is a pretty cool place, but if you pick this place, be sure to get one of the front bedrooms and go out for breakfast. Myself, I will find a different place. Great spot, great staff, would repeat!

This was my first B&B experience, and it was awesome! David, the staff member, was super friendly, helpful, considerate and a delight to be around... we chatted for a few hours, and he entertained me with stories from his youth and characters from his neighborhood. I felt like I was a guest in the house of a friend. I had the first-floor room, and they accommodated a late arrival, and checked my bags for me when I left but was gone all day, that was appreciated. The breakfast was good, and the speakeasy downstairs was fun! Great experience, highly recommended! Very convenient to restaurants, bus line and entertainment in a vibrant neighborhood.
