Nice hotel

Jul 11th, 2019

The Old Mill hotel in Toronto is situated in a quiet residential area with nice green park area near the local river. It is conveniently close to a subway line, to go into the town Centre. The Hotel is build in a nice ‘Olde England’ style. The rooms are quite large, with a large bathroom, and All was clean. Internet was reasonably fast. There is free parking across the street. A nice bar area, where in the morning an a la carte breakfast is served; that was good, but expensive. Staff were a mix: some really nice and attentive, some distant and bored. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Not my first choice for a return visit

Jul 10th, 2019

Check in was fine, and we were given a lovely room. The bed is too soft and the sheets don't fit the bed, but the towels are plentiful, and the robes were comfy. The elevator had some issues, but seemed to get resolved. This is probably best as a weekend wedding/event venue. Unfortunately, we were there two weeknights -- a Sunday and a Monday. The bar closed an hour earlier than published hours, the dinning room is closed on Monday and Tuesday, there is no afternoon tea on Monday and Tuesday. After breakfast, there are no options until late afternoon/evening pub food -- unless you want room service. Breakfast is ala carte, marginal and overpriced for what you get. Hot foods aren't hot -- and that includes the coffee! Then we get charged a "Resort Fee" -- not sure what it was supposed to cover but I rail against these extra fees. CHANGE YOUR PRICES, but don't add extra fees for whatever should be covered in your nightly rate. It leave a bad impression. Free parking, free wi-fi. In room entertainment included a radio receiver/tape player/CD player! When's the last time you traveled with a cassette tape?!?!? Great location for the metro, but local information/services are lacking. And that includes maps for the Toronto Discovery Walks that are near by. Probably not my first choice for a return visit. Beautiful hotel in the Humbert Valley

Jun 16th, 2019

My wife and I stayed at the Old Mill while we were attending a friend's wedding. Our room was on the fourth floor, with a view of the Humbert Valley nearby (well, if I stood on my tippy toes... the lower half of the window was frosted glass). The room was nice and spacious, with a sofa and lazy chair as well as a desk complementing the king-sized bed. We enjoyed the Jacuzzi bathtub, although we were disappointed to find that toothbrushes were not included in the free toiletries. The electric fireplace was a nice touch, and my wife found that it helped her sleep. The food was to die for. We had dinner at the wedding we were attending, and everything served was delicious. After servings of tomato bisque and Caesar salad, we enjoyed chicken (8 oz in mushroom sauce) and steak (8 oz in a red wine sauce) as well as cheesecake. So pleased were we with the wedding fare we decided to order breakfast at the Home Smith Bar. Although we had some sticker shock -- the prices on the paper menus were about 150% higher than the prices on the menu available online -- we were still more than satisfied with our three-egg omelette and eggs benedict. The Old Mill is a popular place for weddings and other events, and the night we stayed there eleven -- eight wedding receptions, a bat mitzvah, a wedding anniversary, and a birthday. These events are held in rooms located across the hotel from the guest bedrooms, and so they did not disturb us when we slept. Overall, I'd definitely recommend the Old Mill if you're looking for a rustic hotel that feels far from the hustle and bustle of the city. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Sorry to see it go downhill

Jun 8th, 2019

We booked a suite. Carpets were worn and the window in the suite was falling out of the frame. Poor soundproofing. Had to complain of the noise 3 nights out of five. Bar breakfast is VERY limited and expensive. Six dollars for one croissant! Gratuity (15%) added to the bill PLUS a service charge (Huh?). Restaurant only open a few days a week. Still good food and great staff. This is the second time we've stayed there and unfortunately it will be the last. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
