Great Resort … IF you don’t have accessibility challenges

Apr 19th, 2019

ROOMS The rooms are a solid 5 stars. Freshly remodeled, clean, AC works well. Bathroom was very clean as was the rest of the room. The bed was firm but very comfortable. FOOD The quality of the food is an easy 5 stars. The main buffet had good quality and a good variety - good option for breakfast and lunch. The specialty restaurants were fantastic. Da Vinci (Italian) was excellent, large portions, many courses, by far the best food in the resort. La Piña (Mexican) had good food, but very small portions, they will gladly give you two servings if you ask. La Vista was pretty good, but not as good as Da Vinci. The downside and really strange - the restaurant closures. There are only 3 specialty restaurants and one buffet for dinner. Middle of the week and two of three restaurants were closed two days (alternating), leaving only two eating options. Despite what some other reviews have said, we did not have any issue making reservations. That being said, getting the reservations is not as convenient as it could be. Unlike other resorts that let you book today for tomorrow, at the Omni, reservations open on Saturday for the following week. If you arrive on the weekend you can book for the full week (assuming the restaurants are actually open), if you arrive middle of the week, you get the leftover spaces. BEACHES Great beaches, reasonably clean (a little bit a seaweed, but that comes with the territory). The water was rough with lots of waves. The red flags were up the entire time. The lifeguards will allow you to go in but not very far. You can still go in and get thrown around by the waves which was great fun. You do need to get down to the beach by mid morning to get a chair with shade. For our last day, we reserved one of the Thai Beds. I cannot recommend this highly enough. For $75 you have your very own private bed with personalized curb service! DO IT, DO IT, DO IT. Best part of our week without question. Reserve at Pina Colada. STAFF & TIPS We were super impressed with all of staff. They were attentive, and fantastic. While you do not have to tip, we chose to as these people work very hard to serve you and make very little. If you do tip well, you can expect to get even better service. Miguel in Di Vinci was fantastic and took amazing care of us. Luis in La Paloma (the buffet) also stood out above the rest. Every morning we would be greeted with a hug and Mimosas. Msg me if you want a suggestion for a budget. ENTERTAINMENT For the most part the shows were really good. Most of them are done outside (weather permitting). The Michael Jackson show was fair. The sound in the theater was not great and the lip syncing was poor. The real disappointment was the lack of entertainment in the evening after the show. What this resort really needs is an entertainer in the lounge after the show. There is entertainment in the hookah bar after 10:30 pm (when La Vista is not closed). This place is very sleepy after the show is over. ACCESSIBILITY This was the real disappointment of our trip. Accessible, sort of but not really. Access to the La Paloma (main buffet dining room) is primarily down a very large staircase. There is one elevator from main level to lower level if you go to the far end of the building, not convenient and a long trip to get to breakfast, lunch, dinner or the beach. Many stairs everywhere. They do have ramps to access the beach. Ramps are very steep, certainly not to North American standards. A healthy person pushing a wheelchair would be ok. If you are walking under your own power and have limited mobility you are out of luck. The hotel is built on a hill (compared to street level). Extremely steep walk in and out of the hotel. It cannot be done by anyone with any mobility issues. We would have taken the bus to go exploring but could not get from the hotel to the street, so needed to call a cab instead. If you are young or middle aged and in good health, this will not be an issue for you. If you walk with difficulty, you should consider looking elsewhere. BOTTOMLINE We did have great time, the resort is the perfect size, not too small, not too big. Food was really good and the staff was amazing. If accessibility was not an issue for us, we would go back. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Best vacation we ever had, going back every year! See you in October Omni!

Apr 19th, 2019

My husband and I absolutely LOVE the Omni hotel...everything was amazing. The front desk was so helpful (even fixed my broken heel by calling maintenance without a question), the housekeeping was so sweet, considerate, the overall staff at all restaurants was wonderful, knowledgeable, and perfectly accommodating. We will be coming back to see Consuelo (big hugs!), Ulyses, and Adan (awesome shrimp!) every year! See you all in October! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Nice hotel

Apr 17th, 2019

We stayed for 5 nights. For the price we paid it was really nice, friendly and professional staff, specially Consuelo Castro, she was a waitress by the beach area, very sweet and helpful and always happy and in a good mood! But hotel was a bit boring if you're looking for a party place that's not the one. Definitely for families or couples looking to relax. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Very clean hotel with some minor flaws

Apr 16th, 2019

Was at the OMNI Cancun mid April for 5 days 4 nights for my 30th birthday trip! There was 4 of us. We booked this resort thru Costco. Finding the people at the airport was super easy.. they told us where to go and we were in a shuttle within 10 min heading to the hotel. Once arriving at the hotel. We were greeted by the bag guy who took our bags while we checked in. While checking in they offered us margaritas to get us started.. This was a great first impression. Check in does take a while because they have to scan everyone's passports. Once we were finished checking in we were immediately fronted by one of the people who pulled us aside and started telling us of all the deals we she could give us if we go to the timeshare seminar the next morning. Instead of this I wish they would go over things about the resort with you like where things are how things works, explain more about the restaurants etc. However she was super nice. One of us from the group did go to the time share meeting she said they were not pushy but she was very firm on saying she wasn't going to buy and even told them from the beginning.. she did get a free spa service and we all went to Chicken Itza for $200 for all 4 of us which is a great price when originally they told us it would be $440 for the 4 of us. The bag guy takes all our bags and directs you to your room. When we got to the room it was very very spotless clean and very modern... Then the view from the balcony was amazing you cant get a better view then that.. It was amazing... The only bad thing about the rooms are the walls are super super thin.. you literally can hear everything... when people walked down the hallway I thought our door was open thats how loud it was and i looked and it wasnt... Also one of the rooms near of kept moving their chair and you could hear it like if it was in your own room. Also late at night when everyone is coming back from drinking and the club its gets loud. This would be my biggest complaint I had about the hotel is the noise you hear in your room. They should really look into sound proofing the rooms a little bit more because its bad.. 2 of the girls that were with us had to wear ear plugs because they are light sleepers and even the ear plugs didnt help. The food at the buffet is average.. Its a buffet so its not going to be great but it wasnt bad and it was nice they always had a grill where a guy would grill you up a fresh taco or quesadilla or whatever the theme was that night. We only did one specialty restaurant which was da vincy and I will say that was Amazing... I highly recommend going there but be aware you have to make a reservations I went the first morning we got there at 9am when the reservation desk open and they were already book but they said we can just show up and see if they had any availability which we did and they did get us right in... They are very strict on the dress code though.. we had to go back to the room and change because we were not up to standards. The Mexican hut was great for lunch for tacos and quesadillas and the sushi bar was really good as well.. You can also order from your waiter that walks around pizza, fries, wings, hamburgers sandwiches etc and he will bring it right to your lounge chair that your at.. Service was great you can get a drink anywhere and they are pretty fast at serving you.. Everyone is very helpful and they check up on you often. Drinks are average sometimes they were strong sometimes they were weak but they were still all very good. The beach area was beautiful and we did not have a hard time getting a chair but we were out there by 9am. The Chairs by the main pool and the chairs that had shade filled up first and were usually full by like 930 but there was still alot of chairs in the sun that were always available. The sand is so soft there is seaweed on the beach but come on people that's normal The Ocean temp was perfect. So the good things about this resort is its super clean, staff is very very friendly and always nearby to serve you, and the beach was breathtaking and the view was beautiful. The not so good things are you can hear everything in your room because the walls are very thin or not well insulated... The food at the buffet is average. and they don't explain well how things work or where things are when you first get there. Yes for the price I paid it was a killer deal and i would absolutely come here again I would just warn the people I am with what to expect. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
