Dis-Organized Hotel but Happening Nightspot

Aug 16th, 2019

I recently stayed at this hotel for my birthday weekend (August 3-5) and was extremely disappointed with their customer service. My first impression of the hotel was great, check-in was really simple and the hotel is designed beautifully. My guest and I got to our room and were extremely please with the cleanliness and layout of the room. We realized that the TV wasn't working so we called maintenance right after checking in at about 1pm. Upon returning to the room after walking around the city and getting dinner, our TV was still not working. We had to call maintenance again and wait for them to come. It was now after midnight and they said they'd have to replace the TV. We told them to come back in the morning because we were tired and didn't want to wait any longer. They never came back in the morning. We called maintenance for a third time and to our relief, the TV was finally fixed after coming back to the hotel that day. It was frustrating that we were paying so much to stay there and had no working TV for the majority of our stay. Then, two days after checking out, the hotel charged my card for valet parking which caused my account to be over drawn with fees. When I called the hotel to tell them that I didn't even have a car there, they apologized but that didn't really help with my banking situation in which they caused. Although the actual aesthetics of the hotel were top notch, a lot needs to happen with customer service improvement. I don't know that I'd stay here again solely due to the disorganization and lack of attention to service. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

IG Worthy Boutique Property

Aug 15th, 2019

The Public Hotel is a boutique property with an abundance of IG-worthy features including stunning escalators and extraordinary views of the Manhattan skyline from the rooftop. The rooms are adequate yet small unless you're in a corner loft suite. Otherwise, the rooms feel super small with a sink upon walking in to the rooms. We had an enjoyable stay but I prefer a little larger room. Keep in mind, the rooftop is a must-visit but it gets super crowded on evenings and particularly on weekends! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Awesome Stay

Aug 12th, 2019

From the people that worked there to the hotel room itself everything was excellent. When we pulled up to the curb one of the Public employees asked us if we wanted to valet and we said would rather do street parking and he QUICKLY helped us with spotting a spot and getting us safely across traffic to get to the parking spot. He gave us a run-down on how the hotel worked, the rooftop access and club access for hotel guests. He guided us to the entrance...excellent. Once upstairs check-in is via an iPad but there was an employee there which greeted us with a great smile (at midnite) and said 'if you guys want help since I know its late and you maybe tired please let me know'....excellent. The hotel room was small but perfectly setup, clean, comfortable and inviting. Decor was spot on with the overall motif of the hotel. Rooftop bar was somewhat packed but enjoyable. Drinks were great, pricy but it is NY on the rooftop of a boutique hotel. The club was downstairs in the basement, we did not have to wait on line (and there was a long line) since we were hotel guests. Music was not quite what we liked BUT it didn't matter it was good and everyone else was having a good time. The MC was absolutely great....As for noise level in the room, we were on 11th floor (we requested a midlevel floor just incase club music or rooftop music transcended a couple of floor) and it was quiet. Overall our stay was awesome and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to combine night life, comfort modern ambiance and typical NYC shopping.... TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Puts more emphasis on being a hip nightspot than being a hotel

Aug 11th, 2019

Nice hotel but not the 4.5 star it was listed as. The rooms are tiny and spare. We were there from a Wed - Sat and every night we had to make our way through a massive throng of party goers standing outside smoking, carousing in the lobby and crowding the elevator banks. No room service but you can order food from the cafe downstairs and the will bring it up to you in a paper bag with plastic utensils. The hotel is not so much in SoHo as the LES and there is a fairly nasty park across the street. Ice machine had mold in it. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Excellent Stay

Aug 9th, 2019

My stay at Public was amazing! The whole place had an industrial laid back vibe. The room, restaurant, lounge areas, rooftop, and service were all great. The room was small but cozy and comfortable. It also had a lot of cool features (lighting, electric drapes, nice view, adjustable flat screen tv, etc). The food in the restaurant was amazing and there was a good variety of foods to choose from. Jordan (restaurant manager) was very helpful with suggesting what to order from the menu based off what i told him I had a taste for, and was very knowledgeable about everything on the menu. The lounge areas were cozy, clean, and open. The rooftop was its own world in the NYC sky with wonderful views and great drinks. The service was also great, everyone was happy to be a helping hand. Rodney Adjei was memorable because he was so charming and helpful. He made sure I knew all my options and where everything in the hotel was. He made sure I made it to my room with no issues and also made sure I knew how to work all the features available before leaving. He smiled and made conversation with everyone around him. You could tell he loved his job and it’s culture. Can’t wait to stay again! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
