Ruined by the manager

Aug 1st, 2019

Bit of a mixed response with this accommodation. We arrived and were greeted really well by the manager. He sat us down and told us the excursions to do, the facilities and showed us to our room. The room overall was very nice and in a good location, 20 minutes walk to the city. However, on our second night things went downhill. The water stopped working from 6pm until 10am the next morning. That morning we went for breakfast at 9:45, 1 hour after breakfast began to be served. We went for cereal and the milk was hot as it was sitting out for an hour in 35 degree heat. To confirm, this was not the hot milk for coffee, it was the milk located on the cereal table. We also noticed that the sheets they put on our bed were dirty and not changed. We went to the manager to make a complaint, to which he stated “well no one else has complained about these things”, making us feel stupid for complaining in the first place. He refused to tell us when the water was going to be fixed, it was just ‘sometime today’. There was absolutely no apology at all or sincerity. Needless to say, 8 hours after drinking the milk my partner and I were fighting for a toilet that couldn’t flush, which didn’t help at all. We had eaten nothing else that day. The next day when the manager was not in, another gentleman Ikram was serving breakfast. When I told him I was unwell, he dropped everything and ran to the pharmacy for me to help me with medicine. He was an outstanding member of staff who needs more recognition for his fantastic work. It really is a shame that the manager was rude, because it ruined our overall perception of what seemed to be a beautiful hotel, dropping out rating from a 5 to a 3. We will be making a complaint further as we feel we deserve a refund of one night, since we had no access to any essential facilities. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Fantastic!

Beautiful riad! The staff were amazing and so helpful with tours, arranging transfers and just general assistance we needed. Our room was upstairs, and although not soundproof we found no problems. Every mid morning the ladies would clean our room perfectly. Breakfast is free- very different tastes to our usual fry up, but we had no issues with what they provided in both food and drinks. We ate snacks at the riad often too which were really nice and quick to come. You can sunbathe on the roof top which we did before heading out each day, the riad provides towels if you forget yours by mistake! The location is about a 10 minute walk from the main square, but there are other attractions closer if you’d like to see them too. All round great trip, thank you for making our first time to Morocco/ Africa an amazing one. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

A nightmare!!!

Jun 11th, 2019

Our last night in Marrakech was a nightmare. We booked this Ryad cause it looked nice and charming, actually it was our worst customer experience in marrakech. The room are really old (not like in pictures) and we had been awaken during our sleep by an explosion in our bathroom. The hot water conduct seems to be really old and our all room was under water (water flooding) after 5 min. It was horrible. We had at 2am to go to another ryad 20 min away by walk with our luggages. Then the next day, we asked the manager to send us back our remaining luggages left at the ryad and the manager didn’t want to do it and asked us to come back to be sure we pay the last dinner we had at the riad. At the end, no apologies, no commercial grants, a last day tired. This ryad is really a scam! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Tranquil Oasis

Jun 7th, 2019

We stayed for 4 nights in May/June 2019. The Riad is a 2 minute walk from the Kasbah Mosque (ideal for taxis). Upon arrival, I was initially concerned by the hustle and bustle, however, the Riad is located down a quiet passage and once the entrance door is closed, you are in what can only be described as a tranquil oasis. The Riad has exceptional rooms, cleaned daily, a pool and and a wonderful rooftop. It was our first trip to Marrakesh, and Patrice was most helpful with tips and advice, and kindly organised a Camel Ride for us, as well as Airport transport. I would highly recommend staying at Palais Riad Calipau. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Beautiful Riad

May 31st, 2019

Having visited Marrkech several times I was pleasantly surprised on arrival at Palais Calipau. The riad is an oasis of calm from the bustling streets outside with a beautiful pool in the centre. The rooms are beautifully decorated and spacious with gorgeous views over the courtyard. As breakfast is usually free when staying in a riad ( I've stayed in many ) I was surprised to find that omelettes were not included and an extra charge of 30/40dh applied. Eggs to order are ALWAYS usually included with breakfast however in this riad it was whatever egg dish they decided to make that morning. Only a small portion is made and goes very quickly as the continental breakfast is served buffet style. The main improvement (and my only main annoyance ) was that a key to the front door of the riad was not provided. This meant pressing the buzzer several times everytime we returned after lunch/dinner and was not pleasant in the 40 degree heat. As the riad is in a very quiet street we felt a little uneasy waiting outside when it became dark. The majority of the staff were lovely and always greeting you when they saw you. There was however, one staff member who seemed like he was the manager who only seemed to want to speak to you if you were French. He could improve his people skills hugely as the majority of people staying in this riad were not French. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
