How do we love Palm Island? Let us count the ways.
Jul 15th, 2019
My wife and I have been fortunate to have experienced many 4 and 5 star resorts worldwide (we are seniors and travel is a passion or ours). Yet Palm Island was such a unique experience. We booked this 11 day stay last fall, and during the course of the ensuing 8 months we have read the Trip Advisor reviews for Palm Island diligently, and they were consistently amazing in their praise. Now, having just returned from our vacation everything other reviewers have written is really accurate - amazingly so. Most other fine resorts have multi-story buildings, manicured mazes of foliage and many swimming pools large enough for their hundreds of guests. We've traipsed to their beaches at 7 am to secure lounge chairs; and encountered scores of staff members but never really talking to them or, for that matter, to other guests. They have WiFi; big screen TV's, concierges and all the trappings to cater to their many hundreds of guests. Palm Island's uniqueness is in its size (only about 40 rooms) and its intimacy. Most of the staff remember your names and interact with you all of the time. Cyril in the dining rooms (or the volley ball court) is a master at socializing and anticipates every guest's needs. He is responsive and is such a gentleman. The layout of the resort offers guests ultimate privacy and romantic settings and, if people want many settings and opportunities for meeting other guests. Speaking of the dining: the food is diverse, superbly prepared by Chef Bakka (he's been there for a decade) and presented like a fine dining restaurant does. One night the chef cooked our fresh caught Gar (Hail to my wife for catching this huge fish on our half day fishing expedition). Her catch fed my wife and I, plus three new best friends. We loved their gazpacho, fish tacos, BBQ night's offering and every meal was a treat. Two great restaurants. Two bars. One bar is the Mecca for guests at sunset and pre-dinner drinks. (Our wonderful bartender Johnny was an expert mixologist. His Mojitos come with locally grown mint). We made so many friends at the bars and restaurants. That socialization does not happen at other resorts. The last night there we had 13 people at our table for dinner...all new friends. That is another reason this resort is special. We loved our ocean front room! The Caribbean's waves were maybe ten feet from our front door. Going to sleep and waking up to the sound of the surf was spectacular. The room's A/C was perfect; the bath and shower comfortable and the bed and pillows sublime. The resort has many 2 and 3 wheel bikes (with baskets) and we loved them. There is a path that circumnavigates the island and is perfect for a great exercise and for sightseeing. The fauna and flora were beautiful and the wild life everywhere (mostly magnificent Iguana and land turtles). The beach is fine white sand and the water colors are variants of aqua and marine blue. Picture perfect. Plenty of beach lounges abound with options for shade everywhere. The bar is close at hand for that first rum punch of the day. One evening just after dinner we were heading to the bar and heard an outcry from some of our friends. A sea turtles nest was just hatching and the babies were scrambling for the ocean waters. What a great experience to behold!! Entertainment is limited (which encourages the interactions between guests). Generally there was a guy playing great guitar music (sometimes we got up and danced as did other guests). Cyril hosts a great rum tasting with rums from a host of Caribbean countries. We liked the one from St. Lucia. We had a blast with the crab races and gambling on which of the four crabs would win various races. Most, if not all, of the gambling proceeds go to worthy projects on Union Island. Go on the Catamaran Yannis for a day of snorkeling with giant sea turtles, sting rays, and you'll see a fantastic array of tropical fish around the reefs. The spa is OMG great. The 90 minute Palm Island Massage put us into a trance. There are no televisions, and Internet is limited to the registration area and the library. It was wonderful being off-line as it added to our peace and tranquility. And not hearing about every awful thing Trump has to say and does was an added bonus. We met many couples that have returned to Palm Island multiple times. Now we will do so again. We called up and are in the process of booking our second trip there for April or May next year. We thank Katie, the GM, and Ed, Joe, Johnny and Cyril and so many more wonderful Palm Island staff. A shout out to Chris, Michael, Dana, George, Dani, Valerie, James, Blake and Aleyse and our other new BFF's who made this vacation special. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Where do we start. Palm Island really is how the photographs look- no touch up required. The location was fantastic, and a great transfer from Union Island to Palm Island by the hotel boat. A wonderful greeting awaited us from Katie and her team, this was just the start of what was an amazing holiday We were blown away by the beauty of this island, you really need to get on one of the hotel bikes (great fun) and cycle around taking in the most spectacular views and beaches. There is not one negative comment, the holiday was perfect and the staff are incredible. It is awful to name names when every member makes your holiday, however, Katie, alongside Ed, Joe made a marvellous team, nothing was too much trouble. You must play volley ball with Dervon and Cyril- a force to be reckoned with and very funny, we just loved playing it, which we havent done before on any other holiday. In the words of Cyril- "for the love of the game"! It was lovely how all the staff were interactive with the guests and how they remembered everyone's names ( and favourite drink) is beyond me, it certainly made you feel like a guest and not just another holiday maker. Food and service was brilliant, we highly recommend a private picnic at Hammock 4, its a wonderful setting and you do feel like Robinson Crusoe. Take a boat to Tobago Cays, a fantastic trip. Crab night is a must, great fun but raising money for a local charity at the same time Enjoy the bar in the evenings, it really is the hub with guests all making friends with one another-just like one lovely get together We will be back for sure, and cannot recommend Palm Island enough...go!! The staff at Palm Island were fantastic. Super friendly and quickly learned our names and our preferences. Rooms were very nice and very clean, This is not the Ritz and is not meant to be. It's a quiet island with great food and service. Great place to relax. Only about 40 rooms on the entire island, so you get to know other guests and staff very well. All rooms are very close to beach, pool and restaurant. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
