A changing environment in a traditional hotel

Jan 20th, 2020

We have stayed at the Prince Hotel multiple times over the past couple of decades. It was particularly well-located for our needs, close to several members of our extended family. We got to know all the staff and we got very good to excellent service from them, even though the hotel always had a few issues. We have noticed major changes over the past couple of years. Ownership changed and so did the personnel. The old staff are no longer there and most staff members are Asian. While that is not a problem, in and of itself, the attention has become quite impersonal and certainly less accommodating. Something that has not changed: the kitchen. The food is still mediocre, the coffee downright poor and at least one of the restaurants has closed. We hope these are temporary hiccups and the Prince will re-emerge better than before. The early signs are not promising. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

To Be Avoided!

Jan 6th, 2020

I have stayed at this hotel many times, both as the Westin Prince and the Pan Pacific. Unfortunately, it is a poorly managed property that seems to get worse with each stay. Examples include a hot tub that has been out of service for at least two years, an automated parking system that has had problems on every visit, and renovations that were done by a total incompetent. The last refers to their Junior Suite that I reserved this time. It was newly renovated resulting in a totally unusable desk, a tiny and somewhat unsafe bathroom (they retained the old tub/shower combo in too small a space), totally inadequate task lighting, a sofa and chair that would make sitting on a rock feel comfortable, and a layout that made the only place to watch the television was lying on the floor in the middle of the room (the television could not be property seen from any of the furniture. I have continued to use the property as I have family in the area. However, hotel's many problems will rule against this convenience in the future. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

First class all the way !!! Dropped my granddaughter at the Toronto airport and stayed at this first class hotel. Had a wonderful dinner with fine wine. Pleasantly surprised because never have stayed here before. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Hit or Miss

Dec 10th, 2019

I stay at this property regularly on business strictly because of proximity to my office and it really is hit or miss. The staff for the most part are great but management on the other hand has never been great. On a couple of dealings with management, I was less than impressed with their level of customer service. Housekeeping has been an issue over the years too but does seem better over the last year. Still can be inconsistent though. I’ve had some really great stays and others disastrous. Room deficiencies, no AC, broken toilets or clogged bath tubs, fridge, no fridge, broken tv, parking issues, parties. They have recently renovated which helped this outdated property bring it up a notch. But in no way was this a complete overhaul. The workmanship is awful and many items were reused in this ‘renovation’. Lipstick on a pig more like it. Room service is consistently good so that is a plus and it’s very convenient to the highways. David Duncan House is a good option for dinner, also the Keg is nearby and pub across the street. If you need to travel downtown, this is not the hotel for you. It’s very far and in traffic can take an hour or more to get downtown. Transit will take even longer! Perfect for business travelers in North Toronto. As of mid December this property will not longer be part of the Marriott brand so it should be interesting to see what happened. I am disappointed it will no longer be a Marriott as I’d hoped that it would improve since the Starwood merge a few years back. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great location at 404/401

Dec 1st, 2019

I have stayed at this property many times over the years and although not as good as it used to be, still a good choice in that area. Only one elevator working for my visit which was less than ideal. I have also been informed that it will no longer be a Westin. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
