Excellent choice for Luxor

Feb 15th, 2020

The Hotel shares the same wonderful gardens and all facilities with Hotel Winter Palace Luxor, a historic, colonial style Hotel. Pavillon Winter is a newer building but boasts large rooms, great service and breakfast, beautiful and serene gardens, large swimming pool and two great restaurants at Winter Palace. You can book a table at the reception of Pavillon Winter for those. There is an ATM at the entrance. Luxor temple is 2 minutes walk from the Hotel (turn right as you leave the Hotel. Upon reaching the Temple, go to the right along the fence in order to get to the entrance a bit further up. Do not go into the mosque, the entrance to Luxor is just past the mosque. Signs are non existent.) There is a constant crowd awaiting just outside the Hotel offering horse drawn carriage rides in Luxor, boats for the Nile, Taxis to Luxor, Karnak etc. If you go for it on your own make sure you make clear negotiations beforehand if you don't want to pay extra at the end at the end of the tour (ensure price is for everyone and not per person, explain that you do not want them to take you to shops, whether the Taxi will wait for you etc.) TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Gorgeous Garden

Feb 7th, 2020

My only reservations: - the system makes it impossible for the person in the adjoining room to close the door without banging it. Sleep can be disturbed. An internal door, isolating the bedroom from the bathroom and wardrobe area, as exists in the many top hotels, would overcome this. - the rooms were rather bland. Could do with a few examples of the charming prints in the public areas. Those either side of the lifts were especially interesting. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

The perfect place for our honeymoon!

Feb 4th, 2020

We're just back from a week-long honeymoon, and couldn't have asked for anything better. Our garden-facing room was spacious and spotlessly clean; the only issue was a poor shower head which was changed straightaway. The gardens are stunning and the pool was just heaven. The location is superb - we could even see the Valley of the Kings from our balcony as it was at the corner. And even though it's set in the middle of town, at night it's really peaceful. Some people have noted that the older, more expensive original hotel is a bit 'tired' looking. We had drinks there every evening and I thought it was part of the character. Plus, the old silk road has uncovered all the beauties of the Luxor temple right next door, and if there's any more to be found, they may be right under this hotel - so go now, while you get the chance! The hotel staff were lovely, and even made us a 'happy moon' cake (courtesy of waiter Mohamed Basher, who I imagine everyone who stays at this hotel will know at the end of it! Friendly, happy, smiling every morning at breakfast, goes out of his way for you and really makes the experience for you, he's a gem, and the hotel needs to keep him at all costs!) This was out first trip to Egypt and we had no idea what to expect - we booked a guide through our tour operator, Kuoni, and we're so glad he did. Ahmed was incredibly informative about the tombs, the museums we visited, the hieroglyphics and statues (my husband and I now know the phrase 'he is standing in the military position, his left foot forward, he is still alive, he is still in power' by heart!!!). But really, everyone was friendly and helpful and made us feel incredibly welcome. We ate out three nights at the Metropolitan cafe, just opposite the hotel ion the Corniche stretch, and I really recommend its food and service. Also El Kebabgi, a little bit further along, and Sofra, a favourite with visitors, and walkable from the hotel, as well as Cafe Paris, a vegetarian cafe within walking distance. Once you get away from the carriage guys and taxis hassling you just in front of the hotel, you're left in perfect peace. I had wondered, because I'm very blonde, if I'd get a bit of harassment, but the only who noticed was a young woman at Luxor temple who asked if she could have her photograph taken with me! Which I was very happy to do. I can't recommend this hotel enough, or the whole experience. We'll never forget it, and have really fallen in love with the place. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Pavillon Winter

Jan 27th, 2020

I enjoyed my stay, brief though it was. Very comfortable room with balcony overlooking the garden - at a very reasonable price. Food excellent. Staff superb, friendly, welcoming and efficient. Hotel very well located on Corniche a few minutes' walk from Luxor Temple, Luxor Museum and Museum of Mummification, taxi rank outside hotel. I recommend hotel's "Meet & Assist" service. Worth it

Jan 26th, 2020

It is an oasis in Luxor. You are free from the hassle of the Egyptian business people who are stationed outside. The cleanliness can be better. Still it doesn't take away the enjoyment of the place with its swimming pool and garden. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
