Short stay

Sep 13th, 2019

We stayed here because it was near to the bridge to go to a wedding in Costa Da Capricia. The room was OK but is in need of a make over. Some of the furniture was very old and chipped and damaged. It was clean but had a funny smell when we first walked in as though it had not been aired from the previous guests. The garden view was not really a garden view it was the side of the palace so slightly misleading. The breakfast was lovely but the cooked items were cold. I asked for a quote for a taxi to take us to the wedding and they quoted double the price of a normal prebooked taxi and then asked for 5% commission. However the staff and anything I asked for was provided very promptly and with a smile. The bed was extremely comfortable. A hair appointment was accommodated very easily. The swimming pool was lovely and the pool area very nice. I would recommend a stay here but would say do not go for the cheapest option as it is disappointing. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Nice old hotel

Sep 4th, 2019

Well situated, friendly staff. Because its an old hotel somethings are less than perfect. Showers difficult to operate. Bar was very good Breakfast Buffett was good. Our best part of this trip was our guide, which was not part of the hotel. He was amazing. Limotravel (ask for Rui Pedro Amaro Basteiro) TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Very Nice Hotel for a Conference at the Congress

Sep 3rd, 2019

Stayed here for a conference at the Congress. It was absolutely beautiful. However, it’s not just the beauty; it was also the ambiance and the staff. Marie was so wonderful. She was helpful and blunt about what to do or not do. She helped us get a taxi and made sure we had a name card to get us back. The red, blue and green rooms were great for meeting colleagues and even eating a burger one night. The restaurant was very good as well. We ate there one night. Chapel— awesome. We loved the location and its close proximity to the Congress. It was 7 minute walk down but getting back up it was more like 15 minutes bc I was not in great shape I guess. The hotel staff gave good recommendations for dinners and shopping though we never had time to shop. The area near the bridge is a good place to eat. One of the best parts about the palace is the breakfast. Take your time to eat and have your tea or coffee bc there is a lot to try. Caution! If you stay in the older building in some rooms there is a wardrobe as you enter the room. The brass door stop got me right away as I was putting my clothes away. I bumped my toe right into it and broke it. Or at least severely bruised it. Put ice on it and the next day I asked Marie for some bandage tape so I could tape my toe. It worked well for me. Also we heard the new side is really better than the older side but it really didn’t matter bc we weren’t in the room that much. I did enjoy the tv channels. Having cnn was a nice surprise. Small markets nearby are good for purchasing good wine at very inexpensive prices (2.8 euros) and straw hats for 5 or 6 euros. Finally, the water is drinkable from the tap in case you wonder. This is a nice place to stay. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Hospitality at its finest

Sep 2nd, 2019

This superbly restored, renovated, and expanded property provides the ultimate experience in the finest tradition of European hospitality. The historic character of the central part of the hotel creates an ambience of relaxed grandeur that one seldom gets to enjoy in the commercialized efficiencies of modern architecture and management practices. The whole experience enhanced by a professional, welcoming and attentive staff. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
