Overview

Resort has an outdoor pool, a private beach and three on-site restaurants
Some report noisy AC units and musty odors in accommodations

According to guests, the Pier House Resort & Spa has all the necessary ingredients of a great Key West resort: a prime location (just northeast of Mallory Square), an attentive staff and abundant amenities. This quaint property boasts a heated outdoor pool and its own private stretch of white-sand beach, which make it popular with sun-seekers. Guests will also have access to the full-service spa, where salon services and a long list of soothing massages and body treatments are offered. As for the accommodations, there are standard rooms with warm, neutral hues and coveted amenities like flat-screen TVs, walk-in rain showers and coffee makers. All spaces also feature balconies or patios. However, a few travelers caution that some accommodations have musty odors and loud air conditioning units. Along with well-appointed rooms, guests enjoy access to the tasty One Duval – serving up hearty portions of fresh surf and turf items – and two other on-site eateries.

The location – on a quiet stretch of beach at the foot of Duval – is ideal as a buffer from and gateway to the action. Its sprawling complex of weathered gray buildings includes an original Conch house.

It's fair to say that no hostelry is more 'front and center' hereabouts than this former pineapple factory, which helped put Key West on the map as a vacation destination upon opening in 1968, provided a hangout for the likes of Truman Capote, and helped launch careers like those of treasure hunter Mel Fisher, chef Norman van Aken, Bob Marley, and Parrothead-in-Chief Jimmy Buffett. Besides location, it offers good service and 6 acres' worth of bells and whistles including a sweet little beach and the island's largest, most comprehensive spa.

Six low-rise buildings, tucked into bougainvillea gardens between the harborfront and the historic Old Town, house 142 guest rooms and suites. The luxury resort maintains an authentic Old Key West attitude with help from local art and the Chart Room Bar, which continues to serve free popcorn and steers clear of any neon slushie drinks.
