Disappointing in every way
Sep 27th, 2020
It’s hard to imagine that a property could disappoint a guest in so many ways in just the first 10 hours at the property. First, the property is dirty. Trash on the ground. Generally unkempt. No one cleaning. Grounds are uncared for. Despite us specifically calling ahead to be sure all restaurants were operating, we arrived to find that the only 2 indoor restaurants were in fact closed. Dinner was relegated to the sand bar or beach restaurant. When asked about this plain misrepresentation, the folks at the front desk were “very sorry”, but did not deny the marriott site is misleading. So, for dinner room service was the only option except.... the only way to order room service is thru the little tablets in the room and they were all broken. They don’t know when the will be fixed and again: everyone was “very sorry”. Just as well. When the dropped off a paper menu, the menu was pathetically limited. At the sand bar none of the TV’s worked so no Sunday games. Basically, the place is neglected, dirty and barley operational. The Level 7 ranking is a joke. Skip it. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Wow! Playa Largo offers the most incredible service I’ve ever experienced in my life. The pool bar is so much fun and Ferman, the bartender, is amazing. I never even asked for a specific drink and he created cocktails to my taste every time. He’s so kind and attentive. 10/10. Manuel is the other pool bartender we met and he was wonderful as well. Jordan is another amazing team member who was energetic, positive, fun, kind, and a joy to interact with. He’s the kind of person that makes you happy to be where you are. Paisley was our cabana attendent and she rocked! She’s fun, attentive, and service oriented. We loved her! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Lower-End Hotel Experience
Sep 23rd, 2020
Despite anticipating a half-hearted stock answer from management I will share a few thoughts of our recent stay at this “autograph collection” resort. We were greeted with a kind staff member on check in and our room was larger and more well-appointed than we had expected despite an embarrassingly uncomfortable and poor quality couch (my girlfriend and I would hang out in our bedroom just to avoid it). The waitstaff by the pool and beach were average and a few were downright curt. A mixed bag there. One staff member forgot to bring drinks and after being kindly reminded 15 minutes later on a slow day, I was given attitude. I am a kind and patient person. This was just a lack of training/hiring standards in my opinion. I know this kind of thing happens everywhere so no major big deal but still worth noting given how the hotel sells itself as high end. It should be mentioned that the clientele here as others have noted is rowdy (and more than I would expect at this type of resort) were inconsiderate playing loud music out of their radios, shouting, shoving each other, cursing and wrestling out on the dock and carrying on more like a hotel in Panama City during spring break. Our stay was over 11 days in mid September. It should be noted that it is impossible to relax by the pool or most areas of the beach unless you are not bothered by loud pop/reggae/rock and occasional rap being played at the pool. This music is poorly programmed and should easily be 30% softer. I would expect a high end Marriott to play background “mood” music that enables their guests to relax and offers the opportunity to read or just hear themselves think. This music was distracting in nature and volume and very much detracted from our general relaxation around much of the resort. It comes as a surprise that Marriott does not spend more money or research in programming both the content and volume of their on-property music. The weekend house band played salsa/Latin/jazz as if was a paid evening concert. Far too aggressive and loud. Impossible to escape across the entire resort and the sets went on for many hours. Far too much! I am a 38 year old with an appreciation for the arts and not some cranky shut-in. The much touted “sunset celebration” was nothing more than a guy in a Miami Heat jersey on a kayak pulling out a floating fire pit whereupon a bell announced the commencement of very loud and bizarre club music for an hour or so. The very antithesis of relaxation and sophistication. Yesterday there was a bobcat adding sand to the beach for hours in the middle of the afternoon. Another day where it was impossible to relax and read ANYWHERE except inside the room with the balcony doors shut. Do not expect a luxury experience. If I were to post a poolside video from any afternoon of my stay, easily 20% of discerning prospective customers would look elsewhere for their travel arrangements. Thank goodness for great diving or else we would have felt more like prisoners on property for large portions of each day. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
More like 3 star! Not 5 star service!

I rarely write reviews! A place has to be REALLY bad or really good! Playa Largo was really bad! It All started before we got there a rally calling 4x and asking about the room choices. We have a 2 year old & wanted a room with doors on the bedroom & they told us there were NO doors on the king suite to close off the bedroom (which there was because our friend got that room) 3 separate times on the phone! They also said the townhouse doesn't have doors either but we figured it's 2 stories so it was a better choice! There were doors on the townhouse too! We much would have rather had the King suite with a beautiful view than the dark townhouse with ZERO view and patio covered in leaves & dirt. Ugh :/ so we got stuck with a horrible room from the start! The booking agents should know ALL the room layouts & amenities period! Then we asked for gluten free menu options since my daughter has an allergy. It took 1 call & 3 emails to get an answer. We waited over a week for that and there was only a handful of options anyway. That above should have been our red flag but we went anyway! Getting to the room they did help us with bags & the bellman was very nice but didn't know anything about the room. We had problem connecting to the WiFi with a laptop and they sent an engineer who didn't speak English & all he said was "call the front desk" which we did! That's why they sent him! Definitely did not have the service of a 5 star resort. We chose this resort because many friends recommended it as having great service & that's most important to us when traveling. Well...this was the worst service we have experienced in a long time! We were there for 6 days, Sunday to Saturday! So it wasn't even busy during the week so you would think service would be great but nooooo! We had townhouse, sunset 6 and room was ok! Nothing to brag about. Super dark so if you want a view and big room, I suggest the king corner suite it's much better then the townhouse. Our friend has that room. The grounds were dirty! We would get to the beach every morning around 9:30am and they never cleaned it from the night before. Towels, drinks, cigarettes, food was everywhere. My husband had to tell the towel people at the pool to clean up the beach one morning because no one came out and very chair had something on it! I would expect with covid that hotels be EXTRA clean right now with cleaning chairs & tables but I can tell you this resort does NOT clean the beach or pool tables & chairs! It's gross! Why? We didn't even go in the pool because the pool is open 24-7 so we were wondering when they actually clean it & shock it with chemicals to kill the germs?! We never saw anyone cleaning it, even early in the morning at 8am when most hotels do that. Eeek that's scary! Cigarette butts all over the beach and inside the bond fire ovens the entire time we were there! See photos bottle caps left everywhere and even a fishing hook and line was there the whole week- no one cleaned the beach 1x in a week! GROSS! Most beach resorts rack or have a machine that cleans up the sand & makes it look nice, nope not here! Clean is IMPORTANT especially NOW! Obviously they are short staffed, but that's no excuse! Sorry! They left about 5 bags of garbage along the path to the townhouses from the beach 1 days and another day bags of dirty towels! Why would u leave that out for guests to walk passed? It was disgusting! 2 days monday & Tuesday we had a good server on beach, she was super sweet & very attentive. She had an accent but I forgot her name. She was very good! The rest of the time... To get service on the beach took forever & during the week there was only 3 other people in beach. We had to walk up to the bar to place orders. No one ever came back to check on us. Black guy served us one day & he seemed completely miserable and didn't even bring us utensils or napkins and we asked for them and he brings back 1 set after 20min, when there was 4 of us sharing chips & salsa! SERIOUSLY?! Forget about someone helping with towels or setting up your chairs etc... that's not happening here! U have to walk up to the pool and do everything yourself! Is that 5 star treatment! NOOOO We stayed in the townhouses and there were ZERO lights along the path to our room from the beach the whole trip besides the last night which was Friday. Are they trying to save on electricity or what?! It was super dark and we had to use our phones to see. Definitely a liability if someone falls or gets mugged or robbed along the dark path! Come on management where are u?! We roasted marshmallows 2 nights which they charge u for the kit, which is such a cute thing to offer for kids but not one employee at the pool area knew where we were supposed to do them. Everyone is so confused! The staff should be informed of what's going on for guests. Due to covid they do not offer rafts or fishing poles at all! Not even during the week when it's not busy which we were disappointed about. We did rent a float ($45 for 2 hrs) 3 days from the water sports place & a paddle board ($65 for 2 hrs) so at least u have that option but it's not cheap! We ate fish tacos at the beach that were really good & the at Sol by the Sea 1 night and it was good too! Room service 1x and it was good so food wise wasn't bad! They did have house keeping come to the room daily to ask if we needed anything which was nice but nothing extra. Townhouses also had a breakfast box delivered daily with fruit, pastries, & coffee which was also nice. But all in all, horrible for a 5 star resort! More like 3 star service! It's unfortunate because the hotel itself is nice but they need better service & to get cleaning!!!! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Good facility, Great beach staff, great restaurant staff, great housekeeping. There are restrictions due to current circumstances such as limited regular room housekeeping but they try to help as much as possible. Weekends are a bit pricey but weekdays are worth the money. One small complaint i have is that They need to value the Bonvoy members some more. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
