Do not stay here . No concern for heath & safety of guests

Jul 9th, 2019

The work taking place at this hotel is a health and safety risk to guests . Workman covered in dust walk past open food laid out for breakfast and work dust covers the food containers , thick work dust is seen on the top of the Perspex box that covered the breads for example. Workman share the lifts with guests and have no separate entrance to the hotel so work waste is carried out whilst guests are entering through the same doors . The is absolutely no segregation of workman and guests and the refurbishment in not in any way concealed and is intrusive . The lobby refurbishment has no screening and workman were clearly seen creating dust and noise when it should have been screened off . Whilst walking through hotel the dust was coming away from the work area and we had to breathe it in chocking in the process . The work started early in the morning before the promised times . I am lifetime Gold Rewards but to have to pay money to stay in a place that has no concern for the well-being of guests by not screening the work and guests having to eat and work in the dust is disgusting. I did raise my concerns with a lady on the front desk but she seemed disinterested. I think this is a severe Heath and Safety concern and I feel cheated having to pay to stay in a hotel clearly well below standard . I have numerously strongly raised my concerns to the hotel that they are putting guests health at risk and they failed to respond to me . Would you really want to stay in a hotel with no concerns for the protection of their guests and who fail to respond to complaints ? TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Dirty unkept room, disgusting dogs allowed in all rooms and poor room security

Jul 5th, 2019

Room was dirty; trash on the floor, stain on sheets. Dogs allowed in all rooms on all floors. No choice of animal free rooms. Dogs barking at all hours. Internal mechanical door latch was completely broken and the room was unsafe. Also despite having titanium elite status AND booking 2 rooms, only 2 breakfasts per room were offered. Note: one room was booked for 4 people and the other was a 2 person room. Don’t go to this hotel. It is disgusting, loud, dirty and unsafe...in my opinion. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Everything Was Broken in the Renovated Hotel

Jun 25th, 2019

We were in two "renovated" rooms. First one - no A/C. Maintenance came up 3 times - ended up telling us to open the window that had no screens. Next day, moved to another renovated room. The A/C worked but the sink pipes poured water onto the floor. Maintenance came up. Fixed it. The next morning the pipes broke again and poured water onto the floor. There was no regular coffee for the rooms and the pool area did not have a cleaning crew and wet towels were everywhere from the night before. One of the worst stays I have ever had. I can't even imagine how much it is costing them to do re-work 3-4 times. How about just getting it right the first time. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

No longer a Marriott

Jun 22nd, 2019

I recently stayed at this hotel. They are doing a renovation of the hotel and while I was there, they converted to a Sheraton. There was a lot of confusion and checkin took a long time. Additionally, I was there for work and because of the conversion, there was inconsistency in how the charges were applied, i.e. per the contract to the one account having the business contract vs to my personal account. I can only hope that both me and my boss won't be charged for my room. There was no communication when the reservation/meeting arrangements were being made that the hotel would be converting from Marriott to Sheraton the day everyone was supposed to arrive. This caused a lot of confusion in that the computers weren't working properly, and they didn't know what rooms were occupied and which ones weren't. All in all, a lot of confusion in general due to the switch. Also, even though our business event arrangement were made in advance, the rooms were overbooked and one person in our party had to stay at a sister property for the first night. When you make reservations for a business meeting and are coming in late at night, you expect you'll have a room available when you have a confirmation number. That being said, the restaurant and bar are fantastic. The food is fresh and prepared very well. There is a wide variety of options (except for desserts) of both food and drink with MANY options of craft cocktails and local brews. There were always people hanging out in the bar area. It's very engaging atmosphere and they have a brick oven for pizzas. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. The room was very clean. They have an airport shuttle on request and the shuttle will also take you to local businesses within a certain radius of the hotel. It's in a nice area. You can walk to the mall. Downtown is only a short, easy drive away. The conference room areas were completed and nicely furnished. The food and service were great for the meetings also. The stay was okay. There are opportunities for improvement in the way the construction is communicated to guests and businesses planning to schedule meetings there. Also, consider making sure there's a list of rooms that are occupied before a system conversion so that 1) the people who have confirmed rooms have a room available when they arrive, 2) that you know which rooms are occupied and don't have to go to each room and enter the guest rooms without permission just to see if it's occupied, and 3) that the kind folks at the front desk have what they need to know how to charge the customers and have the information for contracted business meetings that include room fees. South Portland Marriot at Sable Oaks is a Fine Place to Stay

Jun 16th, 2019

We just stayed at the South Portland Marriot on Sable Oaks Drive. It was a very nice stay. The hotel was recently renovated. The room was very comfortable and clean. It is very easy to find, close to the highway. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
