Isaac made our trip!

We had a wonder trip to Primland and it was nice to getaway. Beautiful scenery everywhere you looked and we felt safe and distanced with all the Covid-19 precautions that were implemented. Our favorite activity was the yoga with Dani and kayaking/paddle boarding with Isaac. He was more than accommodating to our group wants and needs and we enjoyed his company and guidance down the Dan River. We will be back soon!! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

What a letdown

We were so excited to stay in the Barn Owl treehouse. Where do we start? .. we had to wait an hour after the published check-in time. .. a nice gentleman guided us to the treehouse enclave but....... .. The road to the treehouse area isn’t for the faint of heart since it is one lane wide.. yep, no going down to the lodge in the evening with the thought of it and possibly a car .. I need settled in, it has a beautiful view .. We ordered room service. While good, it came in cardboard boxes and was never warm... no microwave which could have helped .. there was no maid service except if you called. So our room service trash piled up. Yes.. paying 1000 a night, they should have been tucking us in bed .. the golf course staff.. Chandler was a pompous kid. With a course that I understand shuts down the 3rd fairway on a regular basis, should have offered Forecaddies to accommodate but nope!!! .. We suggest they call this a cottage in the trees rather than a treehouse.. Having stayed at other resorts, we won’t be returning And it doesn’t warrant the outrageous daily rate for this disheartening experience that we cut short. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Very nice resort for the outdoor enthusiast....that could be better.

We very much agree with the prior reviewer (X3337DNstevenr) on basically every point. This is a beautiful resort that I personally believe has great potential to be much better. We too do not mind paying top dollar for our accommodations and have done so at several destinations around the world. However, I do believe that the value here is lagging. The service is great however it was apparent to us that they are lacking personnel likely related to the pandemic. So this can certainly be fixed. We stayed in a cabin which was fine but at 5 star rates, I expect 5 star service. Simple details is all it takes. Please don't give me Keurig coffee in my room. Again, at these rates, I expect Nespresso. The coffee was abysmal. I also expect better and more comfortable chairs on the patio. The patio was a center point of the cabin. Make it comfortable for your guests. We were not able to use the TV in our cabin since the ROKU was not working. We requested this to be fixed twice. It was never fixed. I completely agree with the prior reviewer regarding the menus. There are 3 restaurants on the resort. Two were open during our stay. The food was quite good and the service was great however the menus were also very limited. I'm not sure how much this was related to COVID-19 to be fair. Either way, it does make it a bit tough since these are really your only options during your entire stay. Would love for this place to continue to expand their wine list and wine/drink selections. Never saw a sommelier during our stay. The grounds were nice but honestly there were areas that needed a touch up. Again, I am being picky, but I am also paying top dollar. Finally, the activities need to be better organized. When guests book appointments, the location of the activity and directions to the activity should be included on their itinerary. Simple stuff yet not done. Again, I felt like there was a personnel shortage during our stay likely related to COVID-19. Having said all of this, I would encourage the owners to continue to invest in their property as it is unique and has great potential. There are not many luxury resorts in the south. This one could have a significant edge over the competition with a bit more attention and hard work. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Beautiful Property, value...not so much

We recently stayed at Primland to try it out for a potential extended stay in the fall. We are seasoned travelers and have stayed at every high end resort on the East and several on the West coast, as well as many throughout Europe. Let me start by saying that the property, area and our room were outstanding. In addition, they did a terrific job with making us feel safe in the midst of the Corona virus epidemic. While there we took advantage of the golf course which at $250 per round for an in-house guest, when the course was nearly empty seemed like about $100 overpriced. It is very hilly with some blind shots and a very tough layout if you don't know the course. The overall conditioning was outstanding. We had our 11 year old granddaughter with us, but unfortunately the pool was closed which we did not know in advance. Overall the activities are really, over the top expensive. For example it is over $100 to rent a kayak for an hour or $130 per hour for an ATV. Our biggest disappointment was the food. The menu in all of the restaurants was very limited. To be fair, I am not sure if this was due to the Corona virus or is normal. We started with lunch in the bar. I think $12 for a hot dog is excessive. Our dinner was in Elements. While the quality of the food was good, the choices were very mediocre, seemed to lack creativity and were pricey. $36 for a small piece of salmon with a few onions and cucumbers on the plate is what you could get in any restaurant for 1/3 to 1/2 the price. As a result of the dinner menu and options we chose to skip breakfast the following AM and eat on the road. We felt that the staff was friendly and attentive, but lacked the polish you would normally find in a resort of Primland's caliber. However, nothing that could not be fixed with some additional training. Overall, I doubt we will return. We don't mind paying top dollar when the value is there, however for a resort as beautiful as Primland we expected service and value on par with other top resorts where we have stayed. Another perfect stay and great corona virus restrictions!

Love love it here!The whole staff great but an extra shout out to Melissa,Jim,Becca,Ashley and Samantha for making our stay extra special!Cannot wait to go back!The accommodations,service,food and surroundings always 5 stars! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
